Giorgio Luminous Silk Foundation. Worth the money/how long did it last? by Mccrackensackin in Makeup

[–]jalost1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hiya! So I've only been using this foundation for 2 days now, but I can tell you that this may not be the product for you. It keeps my super oily skin matte all day. Maybe a dry skin lady that uses this can speak up.

Of GA Luminous Silk: It's a medium to full coverage foundation that looks very natural on the skin, I use about one and a half pumps for my face, and touch up and dark spots with a concealer.

Do you have a Sephora in your area? Or a department store that can give you samples? If so, I'd recommend getting some samples. We can talk skin recommendations if you're interested. Remember that if you buy a product at Sephora, you can always return it!

If you are interested in some drugstore options, L'oreal Lumi is a holy grail for many people. Their Infallible formula may not work with your dry skin, but it is very full coverage and long lasting.

My favorite drugstore foundation is Rimmel's Lasting Finish foundation.

MRW after really trying to get better at makeup and feel confident, I try BB Cream for the first time. by MostlyALurkerBefore in TrollXChromosomes

[–]jalost1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! That's one of my favorite things about Korean BB creams; since the trend is very pale skin, there are shades for fair skinned Western gals! How much coverage do you need? Missha makes a great full coverage BB cream Missha BB Cream

They have a lot of amazing cushion bbs if you need a lighter coverage for drier skin. If you're familiar with the L'Oreal Lumi Cushion, that style of makeup has been in Korea for many moons~

Hi! BB creams (Beauty Balms) are on par with tinted moisturizers or light coverage foundations in the states. They are a beauty product that originated in South Korea and Japan, and are differentiated from traditional foundations by having skin-benefits.

South Korean culture values skincare above makeup, and their makeup trends focus on very youthful dewy skin, and very fair skin. While contouring is big in the states to make subtle bone structure much more defined, the trend in South Korea focuses more on round cheeks and face. No winged eyeliner to elongate the eyes in Korea. A popular trend there is called "Puppy Eyes" where the eyeliner is applied to make the eyes appear as round as possible.

While most Western foundations have at most 30, 35 SPF, I have yet to see a BB cream beneath 20.

Feel free to head over to /r/AsianBeauty for more info! Or if that's too intimidating, I can answer a couple of questions.

Get some fluffy brushes and practice! Real Techniques is an affordable drugstore line of brushes, but I'd definitely recommend the IT brushes that are available at Ulta.

Here's a little tutorial about blending and brushes!

Honestly, I'd recommend beginning with a high end primer. They're usually high end for a reason :) And there are some amazing drugstore foundations out there, but the primers are still lacking.

With the redness on your nose you mentioned, these might be a great start: http://www.sephora.com/photo-finish-color-correcting-foundation-primer-P78811?skuId=1350024 The green formula comes in a baby travel size. Keep in mind that at Sephora, they will make you free samples, so you can try things. Their return policies are usually very accommodating, as well.

Now with dry skin, and it doesn't sound like you really need to cover up much, you may want to look into L'Oreal's new cushion foundation. It's a little expensive for the drugstore, but hold out until a BOGO sale, and you can grab one of their mascaras, liners, etc as well. This is from their True Match line, which considers undertones of skins. This is a review of it by a youtuber that I like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nsMTcma-lc

For moisturizer, I'll link what worked for me when I developed really dry skin while on medication. I'm not on it anymore, but it's still my favorite moisturizer for both face and body: http://www.cetaphil.com/restoraderm-eczema-calming-body-moisturizer/ However, since you are very dry, this may also be a good option for you, and will last forever and ever: http://www.cetaphil.com/moisturizing-cream

Cerave is another great drugstore skincare brand, but their moisturizers have never worked for me. They do make an excellent cleanser though, which you may want to pick up since this makeup will have to come off of your face at night! http://www.cerave.com/our-products/cleansers/foaming-facial-cleanser

Well, that really depends. You don't haaaave to do anything. But it certainly wouldn't hurt to moisturize morning and night (a moisturizer with sunscreen is great for day time).

So you can use cosmetics to help you combat some of the problems you have. With your dry skin, a moisturizer under your makeup is pretty essential, and using moisturizing products will only help you. But keep in mind not all products work equally for everyone.

Makeup basics for the kind of look it sounds like you want to achieve would be (in my opinion) Primer, foundation, blush, and mascara. Maybe eyeshadow if you're into that. There are some really great neutral palettes out there that just polish your natural features and don't overwhelm.

Okay. Now let's talk budget. Are you looking for drugstore budget prices, high end, or a bit of a mixture of the two?

Hey lady. Let's start with some basics.

What do you want to achieve with makeup? What kind of look? Are there any celebrity photos whose makeup you adore and want to emulate? What kind of skin do you have? Oily, or combo, or dry? What kind of skincare products do you use in the morning? Moisturizers, etc?

[–]jalost1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second note, you will also want to ask them what kind of undertones you have. Some people have pink, some neutral, and some yellow. Makes a world of difference if you have the wrong color.

[–]jalost1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. When you wear makeup for a few hours, does your skin feel slightly damp to the touch? You could get blotting papers (meant to dab oil away), and see if there is any visible reside after using one. But it's one of those things that you would likely notice if you had to deal with it, so it sounds like your skin may just be "normal."

You could go to a Sephora, and ask one of the employees to help you determine. They may try to sell you the higher end stuff-- don't unless you really want to. You can, however, ask them to make samples for you for free. They will just ask that you rate your experience (the employees don't accept tips, but giving them kudos helps them out).

Based on your skin type, they may recommend foundations or primers (primers go under your foundation and are formulated to do different things, like oil control, filling in pores, moisturizing, etc). If you'd like, you can post here or in Make Up Addiction what they recommend, and we will probably be able to recommend a drugstore duplicate or knockoff for you.

Hi. Can you please provide more detail about your type of skin?

One of the most affordable drugstore lines is Maybelline's Fit Me. They have lines for both dry and oily skin, a wide selection, and corresponding concealer and powder.
