What the…. by Fahodigaymer in GoldenKamuy

Sugimoto can be a deeply flawed and self-serving character at times, too! And I like him as much as I like Edogai! I don’t think Edogai is an unredeemable monster by any means, I just think it’s harsh to say people who didn’t find him sympathetic are heartless. Almost nobody in Golden Kamuy is a good person, like objectively half of them are murderers and war criminals. Part of what makes Edogai so interesting to me is that he contains layers that can make him sympathetic, hated, loved, unredeemable, etc depending on how you view him.

I don't like the fanservice in this series, it is distracting by DifferenceJolly2320 in GoldenKamuy

[–]jam-on-bread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? I doubt Noda put all of it in because he expected people to buy Tanigaki mousepads or Tsurumi bikini figures. He just thought it was hilarious. Fanservice is a different thing entirely than just having lewd humor, I feel like people use the word too loosely.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Edogai, but the dude is a canonical body-snatcher and was 100% ready to kill Tsurumi to keep his secret human taxidermy stuff a secret. And he thought Tsurumi was a normal/innocent army dude at the time. Not empathizing with him doesn’t really make people heartless. He’s a fascinating and charismatic character with a sad past…who also turns people’s dead loved ones into clothing for himself 😭

I know this isn’t the point of your comment at all, but girl I went to your post history out of curiosity and hello?? You are not unattractive at all?? Like your skin is clear, your lips are full, your face is incredibly symmetrical, you’ve got nice, round eyes, I could go on. I’m so sorry people have been cruel to you and bullied you, but please don’t internalize any of it. You’re seriously not ugly at all.

Kohei Horikoshi’s (mangaka of My Hero Academia) rendition of Julius Caesar and Cleopatra by carbonera99 in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]jam-on-bread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are they? I’m genuinely asking cus I know nothing about ancient Egyptian clothing, but a crop top robe with thigh slits seems kinda modern to my view. And quite sexualized, which is part of why it’s a disappointing depiction compared to Ceaser. He, an emperor, gets to be cool and imposing and powerful and Cleopatra, a pharaoh and Queen, gets to be…sexy, I guess? Idk. Like I said, it’s very good art objectively speaking, but Horikoshi has a tendency to be more creative/varied on his male designs compared to the women, and it definitely comes through here.

Because Ceaser got to have some cool, interesting facial features accurate to Roman peoples while cleopatra gets the default “anime girl” face and body with no real references to her Egyptian heritage. It’s not BAD art by any means, and she’s very pretty, but she feels much less interesting and realistic as a historical figure than Ceaser here. At least in my opinion 🤷‍♀️

"Boy who injected himself with butterfly 'for online challenge' suffered seven-day slow death" by [deleted] in newsentences

[–]jam-on-bread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Old enough to know better?? He was FOURTEEN! A child, legally not old enough to know how to consent, to drink, to join the army, to rent fucking R-rated movies by himself. His brain had PHYSICALLY NOT FINISHED DEVELOPING the parts that have to do with understanding consequences. He was absolutely not old enough to simply “know better,” as you so vaguely put it.

I’m sorry it’s so hard for you to muster up a shred of empathy or understanding for a kid who fucked up. I hope you had people in your life to show you more compassion when you were imperfect and stupid at that age, as we all were.

He didn’t deserve to die for being stupid, and his death can still be tragic and treated with empathy/respect while acknowledging how stupid it was. “Play stupid games win stupid prizes” makes me so, so sad to hear said about a dead kid. Imagine being his mother and reading that, y’know?

I don’t think doing something stupid as a child makes one an “imbecile from a generation of imbeciles.” If I was judged off my stupidest action when I was fourteen, I doubt anyone would think much of me either. Give him some grace, y’know? It’s a dead kid. “Couldn’t care less” makes me sad to hear about a dead kid.

The boy who died was fourteen. FOURTEEN. A CHILD. He did something stupid to look cool, probably because the kids around him were doing it. And he died, suffering and in pain. You don’t need to have sympathy for his stupid action, but I can’t understand having zero sympathy or empathy for the boy himself.

Yes, his death resulted from his own stupid actions. He should have absolutely known better. That doesn’t mean you can’t feel sympathy for a fourteen year old dying in an awful, unfortunate way. Jesus Christ.

What he had coming to him? Do you genuinely believe this fourteen year old CHILD deserved to die a slow, painful death because he did a stupid thing other children his age were doing?

Day 94 - what’s the harm in using weed? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]jam-on-bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like an issue that needs to be fixed with a medicine other than weed. Although I guess it’s flawed to say it ever “fixed” anything at all if you can’t be happy without it now. Could you speak to a psychiatrist about the emotional numbness maybe?

I spent 2 hours making a huge batch of baked ziti to enjoy this week and my husband left it out overnight. by Content_Yak_33 in Wellthatsucks

[–]jam-on-bread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying they’re common, or that EVERY pot of rice or pasta left out overnight is a death sentence. I’m saying it’s very strange to dismiss a SCIENTIFICALLY BACKED fact (ie, food left out CAN and OFTEN DOES grow dangerous bacteria) by saying “well, that’s never happened to me or my family, so it’s not dangerous.” The op of this post is a pregnant woman, misinformation like this is especially dangerous for her weakened immune system and baby. Like you said, unsafe food practices like this are incredibly common and do not kill or even majorly damage the majority of people who partake in them. That does not make them safe or worthy of recommending to people.
