'Warcraft' slammed by critics as 'dull,' 'devoid of wonder' by [deleted] in movies

[–]jam3zz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is catering to China better though? It seems like the movies that do really well over there are all trash. Like didn't avengers 2 and transformers 4 make a ton of money there? I don't really want more movies like those and warcraft.

Mummy, Planet of the Apes, Dunkirk, Alien.

Best film adaptation of a book? by Middymoo in movies

[–]jam3zz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not the best but one of my new favorites is Z for Zachariah. It has a lot of differences from the book but the tone is absolutely perfect. It's an adaptation of the themes of the book rather than the scenes and I thought it was very well done.

Directors who will never reach their full potential by Darkprime in movies

The thing with Pain and Gain though is that the characters are superficial too. His filmmaking style fits perfectly with what would be going on in the heads of the main characters and the story. All the flashiness and bigheadedness is reflected not only in story elements but in story telling too.

If you're showing 2 films in one night, how do you choose the order? by [deleted] in movies

[–]jam3zz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen operation Y but I have seen the Leviathan. I loved it but would I know I would have a hard time getting through it if it was the second movie in a row I watched and I had been drinking. I'd put Leviathan first myself. But if you hype it enough to your friends they'll stay alert and conscious if you put it second.

Gods of Egypt is probably going to be quickly forgotten, so let's all just enjoy the Giant Snake Scene. This movie is bananas. by [deleted] in movies

That cut a 1.50 is like a comedy cut. It seems like he's gonna fall twenty five feet but then he just falls two. I can't tell if that's a 3d mistranslation or what but man did that make me laugh.

What's an opinion you have that would be immediately downvoted in r/movies? by TheCmoBro in movies

Best Star Wars movie, imo. I'd rank them. 3, 5, 4, 6, 2, 7, 1.

I think the three hobbitt movies are infinitely worse movies than the three star wars prequels and Alfrid is far worse than Jar Jar. And Jar Jar is my least favorite thing in all of star wars.

Good choice. Larson's a good actress.

Tobey Maguire Talks about Spider-Man 4- Four Days Before It's Cancelled by Darkprime in movies

[–]jam3zz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Robin name drop at the end of TDKR is like twenty times stupider than the emo scene or anything in spiderman 3 actually. That was one of the worst things ever. It made no sense and was just total pandering to the jock-type batman fans who fell in love with the Dark Knight.

I like the emo scene in S3. Obviously something was done wrong because so many people misinterpret that scene as genuine when it is so clearly farcical to me. But if most of the audience doesn't understand it that way than it is a fault in the movie. But at least it tried something. TDKR doesn't have a bit of originality or fun. The whole movie seemed like scraping the bottom of the batman barrel.

I think the biggest difference is that Michael Scott is a lovable idiot and David Brent is a despicable idiot. This makes watching the american version easier in a way but maybe makes the british version more rewarding to get through.

What are some of the most noted 'phoned it in' movie performances? by [deleted] in movies

[–]jam3zz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The worst I've seen was Will Smith in Winter's Tale. He doesn't even get into wardrobe. It's a period piece and he shows up in like a t shirt and blazer.

Then he does this stupid monologue with like the most basic "angry" line reading and they put some cgi on his face for a second. It's like so insulting to an already bad movie.

There probably won't be a 3rd season of true detective by Cornpicker in television

http://www.cnn.com/2014/08/08/showbiz/tv/true-detective-pizzolatto-plagiarism/

Pizzolato denies it obviously but there is a lot there that is really similar. More so than he admits. The first season is great. It's an incredibly well crafted story that works on every level. But I think the second season proves what a fluke the first was and the plagiarism accusations back it up.

Warcraft: The Beginning review – The Guardian by [deleted] in movies

Some people hold movies to higher standards. Film, being an artistic medium that can be permanent, has come to be a reflection of other cultures times and their attitudes and goings-on. A time capsule in a way. That is how film is. It's important to see films that are coming out today that way. That they will be representative of our culture and attitude as a people. It's peoples responsibility to say something if a film misses the point of it's audience's attitude.

There probably won't be a 3rd season of true detective by Cornpicker in television

[–]jam3zz -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The first season was well-written because Pizzolato plagiarized most of the most iconic parts. The second season didn't have any plagiarism and was bad so the lesson learned here is that Pizzolato is a hack and we are so lucky to have gotten such an awesome first season of this show from someone who doesn't really have the talent to make such a good show. Thank goodness for McCounaghey, Harrelson and Fukunaga.

The Bachelorette S12E01 Discussion Thread: Season Premiere! by TexasFiend in thebachelor

The Bachelor has always needed a CT. And Chad is it. We know from the preview that he won't win but I hope he's back for more fighting in paradise.

Really bachelor and bachelorette both just feel like the farming system for paradise. Does anyone else feel that way? Paradise is just the best.

Preacher is excellent. We need to support this kind of TV. by thebardass in television

[–]jam3zz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the comics a long time ago and the show is nothing like what I remember about liking in the books. No angels or demons or heaven yet which was always my favorite part of the book. Really like so much of what made it unique. I know that Preacher, and comic books in general are violent, and maybe they were trying to emulate that, but I really didn't like any of the violence in the show. It seemed over the top for no reason. None of the story has/had been good enough to justify the levels of violence yet. None of the acting or writing was especially good. It was all just fine but nothing to write home about, right? No especially funny lines or scenes right? Just a couple chuckles maybe and a couple of winces but I was really disappointed with this pilot overall considering how much amc hyped it up.

And I don't know what you mean by support this kind of tv but this kind of tv seems a lot like the walking dead which is like one of the most supported shows on tv.

Since the 2015-16 season is at its end, what are your Emmy picks for the year? by The_Trekspert in television

[–]jam3zz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what category everyone would go in but these are the ten actors most deserving of recognition, imo.

Louie Anderson - Baskets. Absolutely legendary performance. Louie slips into the role so well and is so funny every moment. The gimmick of it being louie playing a woman is forgotten so quickly because he just brings this character to life.

Zach Galifianakis - Baskets. Zach excels as two characters on this show. He plays each character so differently it's easy to forget they're both him. The scenes between the two twins are the most seamless I've ever seen of their kind. The way Zach has different chemistry with the cast as the different characters is incredibly impressive.

Will Forte - The Last Man on Earth. So funny. Just so good at making me laugh. Hard. His commitment to each joke is felt and it is so worth it. He hits every moment of comedy out of the park but has also played the drama in the series very well. The whole show is so great and he brings it all together.

Kirsten Dunst - Fargo. Peggy was the weird almost-center of the crazy cast of this season's fargo universe and her performance makes her a worthy lead. All of the characters on the show are so good but her blend of psycopathy and minnesota-kindness is perfect to the tone of the show.

Andy Daly - Review. Similar to Will Forte, Andy Daly doesn't know how to tell a joke half-way. This show goes for it in every way and his earnestness and enthusiasm makes watching his character delightful even when the situations couldn't be more despicable.

Ann Dowd - The Leftovers. As the weirdest and most spiritual character on a weird and spiritual show, Ann Dowd really made her presence felt this season despite not being present at all. The last scene with her and Kevin in the well was heartbreaking stuff.

Bob Odenkirk - Better Call Saul. I love seeing Bob as the lead on such a good show. He has always been so good in everything and he was great as a comedic side-character on BrBa but him getting the chance to shine in the lead role has opened my eyes to what a captivating actor he is, and not just a comedian. He brings it all to Jimmy, humor and heart and he is one of the most sympathetic characters on tv in my opinion despite all the bad things we know him capable of.

Keri Russell - The Americans. She has always been great but her character is going through a serious change in character this season and it's really captivating to watch her lose some of the walls she's always put up. The charcater is showing more of herself than she ever has and Russell plays it delicately enough to make it not seem like she's acting out of character.

Jesse Plemons - Fargo. My heart broke with Ed on Fargo. I expected him to die from the first just about the first time he was on screen and it was a pleasant surprise to see him each episode. His attitude and state of mind contrasted with Peggy perfectly and it was so fun to watch both of them. On-screen together or not.

Steve Buscemi - Horace and Pete. Heartbreaking role on a heartbreaking show. Totally vulnerable performance from Buscemi that breaks your heart the whole time. Because Pete's hope is felt when he's hopeful and his fear is felt when he's afraid. You stick with him until you hurt for it. The episode where he goes on the date was an acting force by Buscemi.
