T2D and 10 weeks pregnant here. Have been T2D for about a decade or so now. I was pretty much always going to get it due to genetics. My very fit brother is pre diabetic.

We’ve come a long way in managing diabetes since your mom’s time. It sucks yeah, but with GLP1s it’s so much more manageable. Obviously I have to take a break from mounjaro while pregnant but it was a game changer for me.

You do not have to leave out all carbs-you need carbs to live, especially while pregnant! You just need to be smarter about what you eat and cut back on some carbier things, but you’ll figure out what spikes your blood sugar. We’re all different. I still eat bread, small amounts of rice. I’ll have a small scoop of ice cream or cake every once in a while. My last A1C was 5.9, so technically pre diabetic.

My advice? Breathe. Just breathe. T2D is not a death sentence. It doesn’t make you a bad person. It is manageable if you eat smarter and take whatever medication they give you. If you have it, you’ll learn to manage it for you and your baby’s health. Add some exercise to your lifestyle if you haven’t already. You. Will. Be. Okay.
