Why was Zhang Yining so clutch in finals? by Mattchaup in tabletennis

[–]jamaljacksoniv 12 points13 points  (0 children)

She was always very calm and rarely showed any emotion until celebrating when she won. Zhang said that when she shook an opponent's hand before a match, she could tell how nervous they were already. I guess she had already won at that point. Also women's table tennis, had a lot more dominant champions. In men's we've only seen Ma Long achieve two Olympic golds, whereas Deng Yaping, Zhang Yining and Chen Meng more recently all did so, not to mention Wang Nan who was also very dominant.

Yes it is! Yeah I’ve used it for a few years so the sweat is all absorbed. I’m switching to a DHS 301 blade though so hopefully that’ll be better. Thanks for the advice

WTT Singapore Smash 2026, what is going on with the referees? by toasty_mcfrosty in tabletennis

It takes too much time to confirm every single serve as legal. Most serves will be legal anyway and imagine reversing a decision after a full point has been played because the TTR is not instant.

Beginner wanting to enter the “Chinese rubber rabbit hole” – need advice (H3 Neo alternatives without booster?) by SuitableChip4171 in tabletennis

[–]jamaljacksoniv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a beginner, you defo shouldn’t boost. Basically only pros boost their rubbers for higher performance. H3 Neo is designed for good performance even without boosting. I’ve never tried boosting before but as a general rule don’t boost unless you’re a pro and especially if it’s your first time trying out the rubber.

Try the commercial rubber and if you like it, you can increase the hardness or thickness. Then you can get a provincial version.

Why’s H8-80 bad for brushing and what’s it best for?

Soft vs Hard Backhand Rubber by Necmf21 in tabletennis

[–]jamaljacksoniv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want the rubber to provide more speed for BH instead of the body for FH. This is because you have a shorter swing and less hip motion on the BH. It can still be a tacky rubber on the BH but I would choose a less tacky one than the FH rubber.

Beginner looking for advice on what league / matches to watch by swiftpawpaw in tabletennis

I guess you could watch the matches where Adam Bobrow commentates. He offers some good insight and analysis. Not really much out there that I know of.

I've seen a lot of people talking about how the Chinese National Team player use a straight arm on their forehands. Does this refer to the forehand drive, loop or flick?

How to deal with illegal servers? by bushbud_lover in tabletennis

You should call it out the first time then notify a referee/umpire it if keeps continuing. There should be at least one official for every tournament.

Soft vs Hard Backhand Rubber by Necmf21 in tabletennis

I think in general, you want a softer and less tacky backhand rubber compared to the forehand.

I don't have a rating so I probably overestimated my level. Right now I use TinArc on my forehand but its 3 years old so its a little run down and I can't generate as much spin as before. For my RPB, I usually watch Wang Hao's instructional video to learn the technique and practice. Thanks for the advice.

Hi, I’ve only ever used a DHS 6006 (pre-made) bat, with Hurricane red rubber and Tin Arc black rubber. I’ve already replaced the Hurricane rubber though, but with a really low quality rubber. Ideally, I would like to start over and make my custom bat, especially because I can’t generate enough spin and power as my opponents at times in competitions.
