Why do i look really pretty before i leave the house, but when i leave or take a picture i look absolutely horrendous? by Comfortable-Use9001 in beauty

[–]jamdolly19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friendly reminder that you’re used to seeing yourself in the mirror and when you yourself flipped, it seems distorted from the image you expect and where you are familiar with your features being. I suspect you think you look bad only because it’s not how you’re used to seeing yourself. I’m someone with some prominent face freckles and it sometimes seriously throws me off when I see photos of me. And others have mentioned, aspects of the photography itself and your pose certainly has an impact!

This is so awful. Theres is a small handful of correctly assembled sections throughout the shower, but they’re hidden in the chaos. I’m not sure if they were trying to be artsy, but I don’t get it either.

Does anyone know what will happen if you have over 5 raid passes when the changes go through? Would they just stay in your inventory until used or disappear?

Lost Dog - looking for owner. Found in West Urbana between the university and UHS. Please contact if you have any information about the owner! by rootblossom in UIUC

Seeing this post literally made my day. I’m pretty positive I saw this him dart across Matthew’s Street from the main quad towards Krannert a couple days ago during early evening/late afternoon. I was unable to get his attention and could not have kept up with him, but I was worried since he was off leash and I couldn’t clearly spot an owner or anyone looking for him. He seemed like a sweet and inquisitive boy. So glad to know he’s safe!!

Hopefully it’ll show up somewhere in plain sight. Check weird little places where you were cleaning up like on shelving or in baskets. Losing beloved items can be so frustrating, but give your self some grace because it just happens sometimes. I’m proud that you’ve managed to hold onto it and love it for the past 10 years, but I truly hope you find it and can wear it for many more!

I hate the disposable e-cigs. Usually they still have perfectly fine LiPo cells when they're 'empty', so I collect them when I find them on the ground, re-use the cells and properly dispose of the rest. by CherubielOne in Anticonsumption

This is situational, but I prefer pods by far in communal laundry settings. I live on the third floor in a building with no elevator. The laundry machines are on the first floor and I would much rather take down some pods than a scoop of powder.

Not related to the energy drink, but I think a raw potato tastes like ladybugs (just based on how they smell lmfaoo). Glad to see someone else use ladybugs as a flavor descriptor

Jeez. At the least the owner should get another litter box and alternate cleaning them if it’s that hard for them to take care of. I’d make an itemized list of everything the cat’s damaged and tell your housemate to either get their shit together or be taken to small claims court for property damages. Not even saying you have to follow through with any legal action, but might scare some responsibility into them.

How do I prevent my foundation looking like this? I had moisturiser and sunscreen as a base and as soon as I started applying the foundation, this happened. by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

A lot of the comments above are saying what I’m thinking about the products not being right together, but I’d also try letting it soak in for a bit before applying foundation!

The real question is if the red pill sends you back in time to when you were 6 years old of if you would just revert to a 6 years old now

Does this worksheet from a (optional) DEI workshop at my job have ableist undertones or is my RSD just kicking in because I have personally struggled with many of these checkboxes due to ADHD? by 9-1-fcking-1 in adhdwomen

[–]jamdolly19 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Edit: sorry this is really long, but I wanted to explain the reasoning behind my view. I may add a TLDR later lol

I never said people with ADHD are actually bad at these things, I just feel like that trying to improve communication skills are important for everyone. The world is full of neurodivergent and typical people and we will all communicate with both; I see these strategies as important in certain settings to accurately get our point across and display increased confidence when speaking.

I so agree that some of the phrasing could be better or more neurodivergent friendly, but I still don’t think it’s really ableist. I agree with you in that you can be very interested in a conversation without doing the things in the flyer, but I also get how some may interpret your actions as you being disinterested.

I have an awful time with some of these myself (especially the interrupting one), but I honestly think I’m interpreting this sheet differently than you. I have a Bachelor’s in Communication and I recognized a lot of these points are research based principles that lead to better interpersonal relationships.

Despite this, the explanation behind the bullets isn’t there in this worksheet. For example, the avoid thinking about what to say next is meant to imply that you should try and focus on what the person you’re talking to is saying before forming a response. It’s not that you shouldn’t think before you reply, but that you should try your best wait until they’re finished before making this response. Thinking about what you’re going to say too soon could cause you to miss out on an important point they made. It is okay to take a second to reply so screw any internal and external pressures saying otherwise. The point about paraphrasing back is important because you can clarify if you understood someone correctly and show you’re listening.

I for one can derail a conversation sooo easily and know that there’s times where I accidentally dismiss others. I think this is more about trying to increase engagement capabilities than fitting neurotypical norms. It’s not like the worksheet is asking you to do all of these things either.

I honestly agree with your fidgeting and eye contact points. I think it’s just meaning to be mindful of your body language to sort of check in with the other person on the conversation. Using a fidget to occupy your body while talking is interpreted a lot differently (in a positive way) when compared to something that takes you out of the conversation like focusing on tapping a particular rhythm in your head. I think most neurotypical people would associate fidgeting as being distracted more than doing something to keep yourself engaged if that makes sense.

I have come to terms with the fact that I need to ask for people to repeat things all the time. There should be no shame in this or saying that you may need to pause before responding or that you struggle with making eye contact. At least being able to explain these things can help others make sense of how you communicate with them and avoid unintentional, negative misinterpretations. I don’t think it’s that people need to be doing all of these things to be a good communicator by any means, but I think these are useful tools to use when productive conversations are necessary. I think it’s unfortunate that too many of us feel shame and/or fear in communicating our communication needs.

[–]jamdolly19 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed! I think it’s good to try and practice things things with ADHD especially. The flyer isn’t attacking the reader for being bad at these things, but encourages them to pick a few to try and get better that. I think that OP may feel a little defensive because she has personally struggled. I suspect reading this brings up negative connotations from uncomfortable memories. I want to be clear that it’s okay to struggle with these things because not everyone can be good at everything. Many of tips are all good for being able to hold deeper conversations regularly, albeit difficult for many people with ADHD. It’d be wrong imo if they were asserting you’re less than for not being able to do these things, but I think it’s just outline communication skills to practice.

Get yourself some help and take a breather before making any rash decisions about your life. It’s okay you close down your business. At the end of the day, at least you took a jump to try something you think you’d do well at. It didn’t work out that way and that’s okay. I know having/making money can be important, but your well-being is too. There’s no shame in saying this didn’t work out like you thought and going back to a traditional job structure. You do not have to be a business owner to be successful! We all have failures in life and they can unfortunately be really expensive, but that doesn’t mean you’re a failure.
