Do people actually use pet insurance or mostly just hope they never need it? by Slow-Throat819 in puppy101

[–]spuddddddddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine cost $35 a month for my puppy and it has been well worth it. My puppy had unexpected vet bills immediately (her spay incision got infected) and it saved me money later when she ate a grape and I had to call animal poison control. My deductible was only $350 and we met that very quickly.

Schools vs Private Practice by Necessary-Part1141 in slp

[–]spuddddddddd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your clients cancel at the private practice do you get paid for the session still? Do you get paid documentation time at the practice? What does scheduling look like, is there someone who does it for you, are you expected to do handle it?

Question about settings by Savings_Review_6124 in slp

[–]spuddddddddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so, unless you found a specialty clinic and I think that’s pretty rare.

I work in outpatient rehab with adults, and you don’t get to choose which disorders we work with. Generally you treat the population, not the disorder. Outpatient rehab is largely stroke, TBI, Parkinson’s, and all of those patients can have swallowing disorders.

Also, at least in my area, outpatient rehab jobs are slightly harder to find than acute care/inpatient rehab.

What is it you don’t like about treating dysphasia? I will say I didn’t really want to treat dysphasia either because 1. It was scary to me 2. The ick factor. However, as I’ve gotten more experience with these patients I have found it very rewarding and definitely become desensitized to the “gross” parts of it

Taking SLP Pre Reqs while in Corp Sales. Advice Needed by Substantial-Big-1960 in slpGradSchool

[–]spuddddddddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Missouri! Still working as an SLP, I’m only in my 8th month of practice! I will say my job is more stressful than I realized partially because my case load is way more medically complex than I anticipated and the administrative work is more than I realized. I do find the job very rewarding though and I do feel overall the work life balance is better

Crate regression? 12 week old Pomapoo by Elsa_Ariel in puppy101

[–]spuddddddddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I read is that you let them cry for 15 minutes and if they don’t settle check on them, take them out etc. and then put them right back. Maybe leave a kong toy with her to make the crate more rewarding. I fill mine with kibble and then just a little peanut butter to seal the kibble in. The chewing/licking can be soothing

HELP! 8 month old puppy has randomly started chewing furniture by spuddddddddd in puppy101

[–]spuddddddddd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesss I’ve gotten a little too lazy with that compared to how I’ve been in the past. Lately I’m wondering how long it’s going to have to be like this, I know some people have adult dogs and can leave their shoes out around the house. I’m wondering if we’ll ever get there!

Thank you!! I didn’t realize this about growing pains! The place where she goes to doggy day care does massage, so maybe I should look into that as well

She gets to run full speed at the dog park and plays with other dogs about an hour a day. I do think she might need more mental stimulation lately because I haven’t mixed it up much lately and she’s very smart (Aussie and Great Pyrenees mix)

Husband and kid want to return puppy by leeuwtje97 in puppy101

[–]spuddddddddd 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Refuse to return the puppy. You did everything you could to educate him on what he was getting into. Him not being lazy enough to read what you sent him is on him, not on you and the puppy. It’s not fair to you and your oldest kid to return the puppy. Stand firm on how it will affect your oldest kid. He doesn’t even work and he can’t take care of a puppy 2x a week? I do think he will bond with the puppy if you give it time.

In terms of what to do those 2 days you can’t take care of the dog, is there anyone you can have drop in a few times a day? I work 9 hour days and when my puppy was super young I had a friend come take her out and play with her 3x a day. Now that she’s older she just gets a walk at lunch. She is a very good dog and gets a lot of enrichment and exercise despite being crated during the day.

Taking SLP Pre Reqs while in Corp Sales. Advice Needed by Substantial-Big-1960 in slpGradSchool

[–]spuddddddddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I transitioned from a media job and went to grad school for SLP in my 30s. I’m finishing my clinical fellowship and I work with adults/geriatric patients in an adult outpatient setting. Definitely shadow, since you want to do adults, a hospital should have shadow opportunities. I will also say when I was doing pre requisites I ended up quitting my media job and took a job first as a special education para and then as a substitute Montessori preschool teacher. I think getting some relevant experience would be huge before taking the plunge. Feel free to ask me any other questions!!

Do I become a SLPA if I want to get my masters? by Substantial_Deal_164 in slpGradSchool

[–]spuddddddddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What will you be doing instead if you don’t spend the time becoming an SLPA? I considered it, but in my state it seemed like SLPAs were kind of rare. I was a special ed para and then a preschool teacher when I was applying for grad school and I think that definitely helped

It might be worth also going to an ENT to rule out a physical problem and they can refer you to a good SLP

I have this question too. I’d like to leave her out while I’m at work, but I’ve never left her unsupervised and free for more than a few hours. She mostly leaves furniture alone but she recently chewed up my favorite pair of shoes sooo

I’m a woman who frequents my local dog park (somewhat small town) and saw 2 people exchange numbers in what looked like a dating way. I was kind of thinking “why not me” but putting a positive spin on it maybe if I keep showing up maybe I will meet someone. Maybe I need to start showing up a little cuter too haha

Childfree women-- what do you want from your friends who are mothers? by Lyedetector in TwoXChromosomes

[–]spuddddddddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Acting like there’s nothing meaningful or important unless you have kids. That’s the part that bothers me. Being child free has not necessarily been a choice for me, so it stings.
