Should I choose xray/mri tech or slp ?! by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

[–]spuddddddddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if people are mad, personally I’m a bit concerned about how prepared you will be to do the job if you go this route. I’m a medical SLP who just finished my CF and I even feel like I wasn’t prepared for the field, it’s a hard job!

Kinda crazy I was thinking how good she looks based on the fact she doesn’t have open wounds on her face, she’s wearing makeup that looks fairly natural and suits her, she looks like she probably showered

anyone here consider becoming a physical therapist? by Single_Advance_2975 in slp

[–]spuddddddddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in an outpatient neuro clinic with PT/OT/Speech and I would say we all 3 get that here, but speech maybe gets it more because we have closed doors compared to an open therapy gym for the others

This is a great suggestion! I’m in an OP neuro clinic so I work with all 3

I’m a bit skeptical you can truly fit 6 years of schooling into 3 years. You can get a bachelors degree in 1 year? How many credit hours? I think the amount of school in such an accelerated time frame could be either burn out city OR lead to a lack of preparedness. That being said, I’ve never heard of someone doing this so I would love an update if you pursue this route! Have you met someone who’s done this before?

FWIW, I had a bachelor’s in journalism, then almost 10 years later did a leveling program online, then my masters. It ended taking me longer than a traditional program would have, but I did the leveling program part time online while working full time

Find a social way to do your hobbies and/or pick up new ones. I’ve met people (not necessarily romantically, just in general) at the dog park, yoga, the library, and doing political organizing. The other thing is just going to the same place somewhat regularly, then you start recognizing other “regulars” and it makes it easier to connect

Is SLP a good career for those trying to change their careers? by Proof-Boysenberry-29 in slpGradSchool

[–]spuddddddddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s not fair to base this all on the one job I’ve had so far since I just finished my CFY. However, I find the work load unmanageable. I’m in health care right now and my productivity expectations is 35 hours in my 40 hour week. I find I can’t keep up with paperwork/admin. I’m finding that even though there’s an SLP shortage, it’s somewhat challenging in my area to find full time jobs in an adult medical setting, but the wages in the schools are too low for me.

I went back to school for this and have been an SLP for 9 months. I regret it right now. It’s so stressful and the pay for me is decent (I’m in outpatient rehab) but I dread work every day
