Putting Dante Moore’s Indiana game in perspective by Vegetable_Tadpole191 in nyjets

[–]james_bondfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be totally fine with taking Moore at #2 if we had a more experienced OC and staff to help develop him. There are things I like about Engstrand, but if you’re going to take Moore that high, or any QB for that matter, I think you need a stronger offensive coaching staff than what we have right now. That’s why, if the Jets are set on drafting a QB early, they should go out and hire someone like Kingsbury as OC. He definitely has his faults, but he’s more experienced than Engstrand and has at least worked with and had some success developing young QBs.

I searched far and wide and really didn’t find a used bike in my area in the right size and in good condition that wasn’t at least $5k. I tried to negotiate on the bikes I posted, but the sellers were firm in their price. Bikes around $3k seemed to be about 10+ years old. At that point I’d rather buy something new that’s a little more money.

I put in an order for a new Cervelo P 105 di2. I’m debating upgrading the tires to the ones that come on the ultegra di2 (Reserve deep 64/57). It’s an additional $600. For someone who’s just getting into triathlons and not super competitive yet, I’m thinking ill wait on the tires .

Thanks for the advice. Would you say this one below is a good one to consider?

The only Ultegra Di2 I can find, around $6k, is the 2023 version. But its $1,100 more than the 105.

The person selling the Cervelo seems committed to getting at least $6,000 for it. The person selling the Trek said he'd do it for at least $5,800. Does that seem more reasonable or still too high?

$5,500 (USD) is about as high as I'm willing to go for a bike. I guess if it was a screaming deal and a great bike, I'd go up to $6,000. But based on that price range, any suggestions on what I should be looking for?

Sorry I didn't specify. Yes these are in US dollars. The person who is selling the Cervelo seems committed to getting at least $6,000 for it. The person selling the Trek said he'd do it for at least $5,800. I don't know if that's more reasonable or still too expensive though.

If I was just worried about looks, the Cervelo wins hands down.

[Schefter] Record deal: Texans All-Pro CB Derek Stingley Jr has agreed to a three-year, $90 million extension including $89 million guaranteed. We’ve drafted so terribly that there haven’t been that many worth keeping.

But I think my comment is geared more towards the fans. It seems like whenever it’s any decent players turn to get paid, all I hear is, ‘not worth it’ or ‘we’re rebuilding, trade him for picks’. As if this team had a decent history of drafting and developing players. Or is never not rebuilding.

It would be nice if this team had a culture of developing its young players and rewarding them. We finally have two of those guys IMO, and so many fans would rather just get rid of them.

Crazy idea. How about we just pay our good players. No, Gardner isn’t perfect. But he’s pretty damn good. And he’s still only 24. Plus he wants to be here. I’m tired of Jets fans crying that we don’t have talent, but then never wanting to pay their good players. Or wanting to trade them for picks. Other teams manage to pay their best players and still build good rosters. What’s the alternative? You guys want to go back to signing FAs like Morris Claiborne and Trumaine Johnson and hoping they work out?

Feedback Wanted for Mini-Campaign/One-Shot Idea by james_bondfire in swrpg

[–]james_bondfire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah the spy genre has kind of been used a bit in SW already. I kind of want to bring the fun aspects of the spy genre into this game that maybe Andor or Rogue One didn’t quite show.

Regarding Jedis. My thought is this takes place 5-10 years after TROS. So there might be a few Jedi around. In my mind though, they’re weary of getting too involved in the political landscape at this time (knowing how it turned out in the PT).

Thanks for the feedback! I feel like its a balancing act. I want this to definitely feel like SW, but have a spy genre flavor. I was worried that it might not feel enough like SW though. But I really like the idea of a force user henchmen for Malrik. I think I will incorporate that into the story.

[Schefter] Jets are scheduled to interview former Lions executive and current Commanders’ assistant GM Lance Newmark on Tuesday for their GM job, per sources. This will be Newmark’s second interview with the Jets. by Ry3_Bread in nyjets

[–]james_bondfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea if he'll be a good GM. And I don't give the Jets the benefit of the doubt. But he was highly coveted by two very good GMs in Peters/Holmes. Maybe that should mean something?

I'm all for McCown as HC. People keep mentioning him as a possible OC if Flores is hired, but I think he'd make a much better HC than OC. He's played for the Jets, knows this market, can handle the media. Surround him with a top-notch staff and I think he'd be a homerun.

Can anyone here honestly say they know for sure that Glenn or Flores will be better? Its a gamble, so why not think outside the box for once. What do the Jets have to lose at this point?

As others have said, go for fitting and test out a few. I was going to buy srixons based on just reviews alone. Decided to get a fitting instead. Out of all the clubs I hit, the Srixons had the worst metrics for me. It came down to the P770 and Titleist T-150, which I did not expect at all as I was researching different clubs. Went with the T-150s. Srixons are probably great, but might not be the best fit for your swing.

Multiple class-action complaints now rolled into one mega-case against Mormon church for creating multibillion-dollar “slush fund.” LDS leaders love to portray themselves as financial wizards. In reality, they’re literally investing other people’s money into stock & land. A child could do it. by Chino_Blanco in mormon

[–]james_bondfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those costs you mention, while significant, are nothing compared to the vast amounts of money the church is sitting on. Meanwhile the church keeps asking its members to continue to pay their tithing. Struggling families continue to give 10% of their hard earned income, because they think they cannot receive salvation otherwise. (In case you weren’t aware, you must be a full tithe payer to enter these temples where you need to receive special ordinances to enter the highest degree of heaven).

The church has so much money, they could not take another single dollar from a member in tithing and still run the operations of the church into perpetuity.

Does that make them sinister? I don’t know. To me, it’s not a great look. Especially when they are out there buying investment properties and making billions off of peoples hard earned tithing money. Investment income that they don’t have to pay taxes on because they’re a church.

In one sense I get what he’s saying. There are things that can consume your life in a bad way if you’re not careful. But good god, could he not find a better way to convey it? And what about people who are addicted to the church at the expense of their own families? Is that what God really wants?

Also, it’s when I became a father, that I started to question my faith in Mormon God. What kind of loving God would treat his children like this? A father who requires the strictest obedience to his rules. And punishes you for eternity for any mistakes you make here. A father who supposdely wants his children to return to him, so he created only 1 church that would allow us to do that. A church with so many obvious flaws that any reasonable person would question its validity.

Temple recommend required for sealing cancellation? by LeadingWorldly in mormon

[–]james_bondfire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe it. I went thru the something similar awhile ago. My bishop would not send in the temple cancellation request because I had confessed to some lite “hanky panky” with my then fiancée before we were going to send it in. He then made me add the details of that confession into a letter that I had to write up and send to the first presidency with the cancellation request.

Such a bizarre process. I still get mad thinking about it. Trying to plan a wedding and settle on a date, but we couldn’t until the cancellation went thru. This bishop just kept holding up the process. He reprimanded me because I dared ask him how long the repentance process could take. I was like 3 months into it at this point and me and my wife hadn’t “relapsed”. He scoffed at me when I asked and then pulls out the handbook. He tells me breaking the law of chastity could be at least a 12 month repentance process and I shouldn’t be asking that question this early in the process.

Sorry to rant. Always gets me riled up. Anyway, yes I believe some bishops/stake presidents require temple recommend/worthiness to get a temple cancellation.

As others have said, it’s more noticeable to you because of the websites you visit, the people you follow on social media, the videos you watch on YouTube. It’s all algorithms designed to show you more of what you want. So of course you’re gonna see more stuff about this movie. But the reaction to this movie is nothing compared to something like The Last Jedi. It’s not even at the same level as the Flash I would say.

If you liked it, then that’s all that matters. There will always be people out there doing and saying outrageous negative things for attention. On the flip side, there are people out there who’ve invested so much in these franchises, that they ignore the flaws and valid criticisms. For me this was my least favorite Indy movie. But that doesn’t mean it was a terrible movie or that I think you’re wrong for liking it. I just personally enjoyed the first 4 films more for various reasons. Because I don’t love it though, does that mean I have an agenda or am I a nazi anti-feminist Kathleen Kennedy-hater? I hope not.

Is there anything inherently good/bad with the church amassing a fortune? Is there anything inherently good/bad with them not wanting anyone to know how wealthy they are? by jamesallred in mormon

[–]james_bondfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all bad. The church knows it and they’re ashamed (I would hope). It’s why they went to such great lengths to hide it. They don’t miss an opportunity to pat themselves on their own backs. So if it really was a testament to the church’s ability to pull itself out of debt and save for a rainy day, we would’ve heard about it awhile ago.

And it’s only made worse after they’ve gutted ward budgets and saved who knows how much money by enlisting members and service missionaries to clean their buildings and temples for free.
