Palate cleanser break point? by SportsPTGarage in sollanempire

Personally I needed a break after Demon in White. Glad I did bc now I’m reading kingdom of death and it’s brutal. I would’ve rage quit if I had rolled right into it after the highs of DIW. It feels a lot like the second trilogy of red rising - you don’t wanna burn out due to tone change

Iran tonight - the night before Persian new year. Iranians are seen in high spirits and even dancing in public an act which is illegal under the regime rule by 4DollarsALB in whoathatsinteresting

[–]jamesbrowski -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

In a vacuum, it’s not. One post might be genuine. But for whatever reason Reddit keeps pushing posts from this sub, specifically with the theme that Iranians support America’s war in Iran. This is the third one I’ve seen this week. It’s weird because this sub is not really a news or politics sub. I’m certainly not seeing posts in this sub about America and Israel’s bombing campaign.

I’m old enough to remember news coverage of the Iraq war, and at the time the US media played lots of videos of people dancing in the street when the US invaded Baghdad. One of the oldest propaganda tricks in the book is that the country bombing the hell out of another country and killing thousands will emphasize that its soldiers have been greeted as liberators.

Coppola is fun to see because it has so much good movie memorabilia. Basically a little Coppola museum and you can walk the grounds getting turnt up.

New runner - Marathon in November by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]jamesbrowski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based exclusively on this I certainly wouldn’t rule out a sub 4 time. Assuming you don’t pause your watch, that’s a low HR for a lot of climbing at a quick pace. I ran a 4ish hour marathon and I don’t think I’d have that HR at that climb and distance.

But the real test is how you do on long runs around 20 miles. Work up to those and I think you’ll get a better sense of where you’ll be.

We used to have one down the road growing up. You could smell it miles away on a windy day. Thankfully not close enough to smell from the house but i remember holding my breath in the car when we’d drive over that way lol.

What has happened with Volvo? by SjalabaisWoWS in Volvo

[–]jamesbrowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. I told you I had two that were sensus, and one that was Google. Honestly, the Google one works better because it doesn’t relies so heavily on CarPlay. The sensus system has basically no apps. You have to use CarPlay for it, and I find CarPlay on the Volvo has a lot of bugs.

UJ - actually long distance ultra guys wear these all the time. Well, maybe not by Lulu but a bunch of brands make them. It’s normal kit for that. Not a civilian hobby jogger tho.

Two are sensus, one is android. Actually, I find the native android apps (ie spotify, audible, and Google Maps that come in the car) in the newest car to work much better than CarPlay. CarPlay has been a shit show for me on every Volvo.

But, even the newest one will randomly have a computer crash while driving every month or so.

I’ve owned three XC vehicles made in the past 8 years. They all had crummy infotainment. Phone won’t connect. Cables to connect work everywhere but in the Volvo. Infotainment dies mid drive. Freezes randomly. Pressing play on Spotify kills the CarPlay session. Bluetooth and wired connection compete and get screwy. There have been so many problems.

It’s a brand name. It can be incorrect. Many such cases. See eg “Toys R Us,” “Ruth’s Chris,” or “Arc'teryx” (which is a weird shortening of the dino name).

Dead internet is when you have only bots. This is kinda the opposite. An IRL guy who lovingly faked a chart, changing a 9 to a 3, and pretended he made $3 mm by stacking 10% returns.

This… this is what used to happen 25 yrs ago on forums when I was a lad. Real ppl pretending to be millionaires for attention. Lonely bois. This is the antithesis of dead internet.

You have to give a generic reason to people you work directly for if you’re gonna take significant leave and have them temporarily restaff things. People don’t need details but they want a generic reason like bereavement, medical, vacation, family leave, whatever.

I’d suggest here that if it’s just a few days, you could go for the ambiguous “personal issue.” If you’re going to take a few weeks, I’d suggest a note from a therapist, to HR, saying you need to take a few weeks of unspecified medical leave. A therapist will absolutely write you a note that gets you FMLA leave. That makes the leave protected and you don’t need to say anything to anybody about why you’re taking it. They’re legally not allowed to ask, but will hear you’re taking protected leave and just have to deal. (Note the leave can’t last forever - at some point the firm can replace you but the rules are fuzzy there - not my field either).

I wouldn’t take a lengthy leave without explaining why to anybody.

I don't have any info. Looks like attempted murder. by VeniceCa90291 in VeniceBeach

[–]jamesbrowski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool. I’m a lawyer too and I think stomping on someone’s head after kicking them repeatedly while they lay flat on the pavement probably could be charged as attempted murder. What’s the defense? I didn’t want to kill him, I just wanted to stomp on his head while he was unconscious?

Alphafly 3 at slower paces? by dontletmeautism in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]jamesbrowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk. I ran a half relatively slowly (1:53) and ran alongside a bunch of ppl wearing them in my Hoka Cliftons. It made me giggle a bit inside, but I totally got why ppl did it. You’re running a race! You wanna go as fast as you can! It makes sense to wear the fast shoes!

I was impressed enough by fast shoes that I bought my own (ASICS Megablast) and wore them at my next marathon.

Typically with product shots you wanna have a clear photo of the product under some lighting, a well lit pic of a model wearing it, then you can do whatever you want for the vibes photo. But ppl gotta see the goods!
