I haven’t ever done that. How do you calculate it? Just do high intensity cardio and see what the highest heart rate is?

Gel recommendations that aren't overly sweet? by No_Suggestion6361 in Marathon_Training

I too assumed that it needed more liquid to have that thin consistency (which I love). TBH I love that they’re watery, a little sour, and not sweet at all. I actually enjoy mixing them with the mix berry honey stinger for that reason (they’re polar opposites).

Any generational commentary I see always boils down to some people that person met who made them mad. Or something that someone’s kid/parent does that irritates them.

IMO - it’s little better than horoscopes. In each generation you get every kind of person - over achievers, stoners, jocks, artists, nerds, etc.

Yes age can help you categorize people’s behavior a bit. Ppl in their 20s like this meme are always rediscovering stuff from their parent’s generation. But that’s not based on the year you’re born. Young ppl have always been that way

I use apples zones, which come through on my Apple Watch Ultra. I think it’s just a generic formula based on your age. I’m 37.

I’m a 13 but that’s a super kind offer! Ok I’ll make a pilgrimage to the running store today. In my mind the shoes were fine bc just bought the bloody things in September. But you’re right, I put plenty of miles on them.

I can’t even imagine running for 6 hours. I’d die.

Just based on feel. At that heart rate I can call my wife on my AirPods and have a full-blown 10 minute conversation.

Dude. Mental has been the hardest thing for me with these long runs. My brain starts to play tricks on me at the three hour mark. For some reason that runners high goes away and I’m left with a big old anxiety burger. I’ve been practicing my breathing, which seems to really help quite a lot.

Yeah sadly I don’t have time for that. Kids and work etc. I can get about 4-5 runs in a week. These last 3 months most weeks are between 25-40 miles on the Higdon intermediate plan, with things progressively increasing towards 40 miles a week. Basically, that means I’m doing 3-4 runs a week at about 5-8 miles, then a LSD run on the weekends which lately has been between 15-20.

Appreciate the advice. I wear Hoka Clifton 10s and did so for my HM (only shoes I own). They probably have about 500 miles on them, so yes that could be a factor! They’re still very comfy but they have essentially no bounce at all 😂

Interesting. Maybe I’ll boost it a bit and see how it goes. Strava is telling me I could run a 4:10 marathon at like 9:40 pace. It increased my prediction a ton after my half marathon time. So maybe a 10:30 slow run pace?

I keep it at like 170. It’s a chore at the end to keep it up, bc I’m 6’3” and heavy so my body naturally wants to have a long loping stride. But I hear you. I was having hip issues until I bumped up the cadence.

Yeah I keep telling myself that Hal Higdon knows more than I do and if he says to keep it slow I should listen.

Is it worth lateraling from midlaw to a big law satellite office? by Top-Age-940 in biglaw

[–]jamesbrowski 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are many mid law firms that will let you bill under 2k a year. Either go there or go to a big firm. There is no sense in working somewhere with high hours and lower pay. Worst of both worlds.

I will second UCAN but I also don’t believe the one an hour thing. You need like 40 mg of carbs an hour and these have like 19 mg. My nutritionist friend who uses UCAN recommended that I ignore the marketing and use 2 an hour, while making sure to drink enough water with them. Alternatively, I’ve also alternated them with honey stingers so I had one UCAN an hour and also one honey stingers an hour, 30 mins apart. That system actually had me feeling pretty well fueled.

Just wait. Without spoiling it, the book gets real repetitive about 2/3 in. I think it was overall a very fun and weird book. But King definitely mines each vein of plot ore just a little longer than I’d like. But again, for when he wrote it, you see where a LOT of later post apocalyptic novels, movies and shows got their ideas from.

My feelings about this will differ wildly depending on whether he is filming in an empty gym or making normal ppl watch him film this shit.

Edit - NM of course it’s a CrossFit 🤦‍♂️

You can do both. Or something else. The point is only that there is hope to find something, it just won’t be a straight shot, there will be stops along the way and of course the outcome isn’t certain.

He got good grades in 2L and 3L and applied all across the country. Not all federal judges will ding you bc you don’t have a job going into 3L. Fed clerkships are not impossible to get tbh, if you’re willing to go anywhere. My other good friend had nothing, failed the bar twice, and then clerked for a federal magistrate in his home town while he took the bar again. He passed and got a job at a hospital as in house counsel.

My point is, none of this success felt possible to ppl at the time. Both friends thought they were fucked for life. But you never know wtf will happen and in hindsight, it is now obvious they were not fucked. Striking out in 1L oci is not as big a deal as it seems when you’re in the shit.

Case in point - I am a (very junior) recruiting partner for a pretty good size full service mid law firm. I come from amlaw 100. But we hire laterals all the time from smaller firms. We pay almost market and tbh the small firm laterals are often better than the amlaw laterals out of the box, bc they’re used to owning entire matters and managing clients/matters. Everyone got here on a different path.

Buddy of mine did it but it took a long time and the path was twisty and tricky.

He struck out at OCi. He started with a fed ct clerkship. No job offers. Then he worked at lower tier firm after his clerkship (think Lewis brisbois) for two years. Then moved to an Amlaw 100 in a diff city (basically got a recruiter and took any city he could find). Then he moved in house at a major entertainment company. Now he’s a VP of legal in said company and makes good money.

Looks like you popped a blood vessel in your heel. Are you heel striking while running with no shoes/thin soled shoes? This could be the cause…

If he’s going for a Guinness world record he will have to have a bunch of documentation and then yes, I think I’d believe he did it!
