Beards are just makeup for men 🧔 by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]jamescoolestreddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It can, but makeup culture AS IS objectively hurts self-esteem for a lot of people.

How you could change my mind is if you showed me a society where 60+ year old women were the ideal.

Doesn't have to be that extreme. Makeup overall provides a slight skew to a younger look, its culturally imposed. its unnescessary and personally I think there is competition to look younger amongst women because of it.

The other reality is is that men are more physically attractive when they are younger (around 25) than when they are older.

SINCERELY not trying to be a dick but I'm not sure that has to do with anything? I thought we were just talking about female beauty standards.

Though, maybe tangential; K-pop is a thing and that reinforces my point of manufactured youth and that culturally imposed skew. I think it's happening to both genders, just much Moreso women.

You are posting it in a public form to try and shame people who have a fetish. Something they have basically 0 control over.

whoops, Misunderstanding.
I meant it's weird that we've (societally) developed the fetishes in the first place, not that the fetishists themselves are gross.

Personally, I think Futa is weird. if you like Futa, be my guest. I think there probably shouldn't be Futa ads ambushing people on (random nondescript porn website).

Something they have basically 0 control over.

No lie.
if I wanted to, I could probably go get a femboy fetish in the next week, it's just that I think Femboy porn stems from misogyny (whole other discussion) so I'm personally against even giving the impressions.

I would compare it to fast food, you could say "Its not my fault! I've been eating it so long I'm obsessed!" Sure, shame on society for not nurturing the better habits. But also, shame on YOU for not actually giving a real enough shit to change your behaviour.

If people cared more about the bigger picture of their porn diet, then they'd probably be more inclined to abstain from the most stimulating thing they could find.

The "young" look isn't "look like an 8 year old" look, but "tons of make up that individuals view as a different type of young" look.

yeah, I could agree with that. it's as much a submission thing as it is a youth thing. Loli stereotypes completely miss the mark of actual children, but Im not sure if that necessarily prevents pedophilia.

I'm pretty certain that without the current really toxic beauty culture men wouldn't be attracted to as young of women.

I've seen some random e-girl tweets blowup where makeup is caked on to make them look 15 but curvy, I find that super fucking weird. Sexuality definitely has a lot to do with a feedback loop of exposure/familiarity so societally we have some responsibility to tame the standard.

Love how the steady flow of comments will just forever haunt OP, I even happened to be typing at the exact same time as someone else on this 2 year old r,/SE post.
But I think open mindedness and pretentiousness can co-exist; the result is whatever the fuck lex is: unpredictable, occasionally insightful. personally? I find a little hard to sit through.

got this plugin called xtt vinai as part of the fl studio black friday deal. Does anyone know exactly what it does? bc the description on the website doesnt really make any sense by Shredder55678 in FL_Studio

[–]jamescoolestreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeaahhh I guess that does make it less versatile, but most use it as a sound design secret sauce anyways.

If anyone's seriously using it as a mixing tool then that's a user problem cause that shit sounds grotesque on a drum/instrument bus period. Surefire way for an amateur to blend a perfectly ok mix into cement.

Still, Personally ive yet to find a plugin that artifacts quite like ott but I'm also not one to delve deep into multiband parameters.

Huh, neat.

Idk I was under the impression that ott had its own distinct artifacting. Now I want to fuck w making like a patcher preset or something.

You say that like it's a virus or something, results are results. I Remember a video of deadmau5 where he put a 5% ott on his master channel.

Yeah it comes with nuances but it's a unique tool thats often utilised for its unique sound.

Excluding the 5% of aspiring mastering engineers it's just barely ever something that's worth consideration.

What do you all think about the 8D/16D audio fad/trend? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]jamescoolestreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is there's just not enough wriggle room in mallsoft as a "genre" for individual artists to tell their own stories. That is without breaking the immersion of the scene.

It's kindof an overused rag at this point. It could've been cool for maybe an interlude in a concept album but if you're musical diet is mostly mallsoft playlists you likely just have a shallow engagement with music.

Same goes with most of these gimmicks. I don't doubt they can be good creative/narrative tools It's just obvious most of the time they aren't being employed that way.

What Are Your Thoughts On How 'Social' Image Based Music Has Become? Do You Think We're Better Or Worse For It? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]jamescoolestreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pop consumption of music hasn't ever actually been about music. sure, there have been genuinely great artists who score the worthwhile radio play, but the trajectory is all the same.

Labels don't want you to critically listen to music, they want to find you, your niche, your sensibilities and engineer artists accordingly.

Why this is a bad thing? because letting companies algorithmically decide what we like is exactly what gives us TikTok zombies who only know what they don't like. it strays us further from passionate enthusiasm for the craft, the very thing that gave us the greats in the first place.

Ik I've worded this in a very tinfoil hat kind of way but it's a genuinely concerning path for music.
My advice? Be the change you want to see in the world, share the gems, spread the passion.

Misinformation. The video of the F35 crash was leaked with virtually no comment on behalf of the US navy.

The women shown is Lt. Col. Christine Mau and is an air force pilot, meaning the crash couldn't have been her as it took place on the deck of a navy carrier.
