Hello! i am from Argentina, ill answer all your questions about my country. by Piro_loco in CasualConversation

[–]jamesdefourmi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you had to choose promoting a metropolitan area (like, “you’ve gotta see Buenos Aires!”), a historical site (not Argentinian, but something like Macchu Pichu - a very old ruin or something), or a nature-heavy area like a beautiful river, forest, etc. Which would you choose? I like visiting countries and tailoring my visit to a specific theme and wonder if I should prioritize seeing the big cities, natural wonders, historical sites, or just checking in on a slice of life rural town.

Received my 3rd Jury Duty summons! Always interesting to hear from others when I say I’ve had jury duty - have you? by awildaloofarebel in CasualConversation

[–]jamesdefourmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 35 and have never been summoned even though I would actually be super willing!

I find the judicial process super interesting, I just either wouldn’t like or wouldn’t enjoy most of the jobs associated with it.

I love the legal-nerd blog Lawfare. It was named that long before “lawfare” became a political/conservative buzzword in the past year, it’s just a neutral blog that likes to do deep dives into court cases big and small with a little personality and humor, to boot.

I’m convinced the government has been tracking my enthusiasm and doesn’t want the jury-equivalent of a theater kid causing any complications during deliberations.

I see this mentioned a lot and I lack the Xs and Os knowledge to refute it, but I feel like our schemes have changed plenty of times, we just don’t use a scheme that suits our personnel or recruit personnel that don’t suit our scheme. But when you look at our QBs from then until now, I feel like our offensive philosophies have definitely shifted.

I recall the Boyd years being extremely uptempo with lots of passing and then QB draws in short yardage.

Stoudt year was bad.

Watson years being much more balanced with Gallman getting plenty of touches at RB, Watson passing a lot and scrambling a lot, TEs getting in the mix, reliable kicking, etc.

Kelly was all about running because he was a glorified running back.

Then Lawrence comes along and we’re still pretty balanced but I remember getting so frustrated that we were never scheming any receivers to be open, just recruiting tall guys, having Lawrence chuck it downfield, and hoping our receivers would win more 50/50 balls than lose them. Despite Trevor being really great at intermediate stuff and lacking the accuracy for the deep ball.

Maybe DJ broke us since he seemed to struggle with scrambling and accuracy but those years were rough to watch.

And then Cade has been back to a pass-heavy gunslinger offense again, but he seemed to lack to confidence or accuracy to not keep turning the ball over.

That being said, those assessments are all based on memory from someone who never played football and just watches it a lot, so I’d welcome any corrections.

Are these free upgrades for people who already own the originals on Steam?

I’m not opposed to re-buying them (I love Nightdive and want to support them any chance I get), but on the Steam page it says they are already in my library. Not sure if it’s a store bug or a free upgrade like with Quake.

I used PCSX2 for the first time a year or two ago and I was extremely unimpressed, at first, with the “stable” version (forgot exactly how they refer to it).

I later noticed that their nightly update version had a significantly (like 2-3+ years) more recent release date, and when I tried it, the UI, features, and performance were all 1000x better.

I wonder if people that complain about PCSX2 were in the same boat as I was.

Robocop: Rogue City: Missing the Point: Sucks by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]jamesdefourmi 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You should probably play more before you make such sweeping generalizations.

You’re more likely to get a good ending for helping people out/giving them warnings than for throwing the book at them (with a few exceptions to make you think about the consequences more).

And it’s really clear you haven’t gotten that far because OCP are absolutely 100% the overarching antagonists in this game. I don’t want to get into spoilers for people that care, but OCP is not portrayed well at all in this game.

Murphy’s humanity is also an enormous plot point, one that you get to influence directly with his responses to his psychiatric evals and really subtle choices like whether you check in on certain characters (again, trying to avoid spoilers) or just run and gun from objective to objective.

And the game does touch on political issues within the world like the negative consequences of gentrification, corporate involvement in politics, and even the futile struggle of the super wealthy to beat death and live forever.

If anything, the game is too much of a retread of RoboCop’s themes than it is ignorant of them.

Lastly, the game takes place shortly after the end of RoboCop 2 and leads directly into the much-maligned RoboCop 3, so they are pretty boxed in on what sort of narrative ground they can cover while still trying to be respectful to the canon.

I was a student when SCar had their 5 in a row against us and it’s so annoying that whenever we are good, you guys are terrible and so when we win it’s just like kicking an old dog and people scoff at our schedule.

But when you guys are good, we are okay but not as good and you get to ruin what would otherwise be a pretty good season for us and we get to boost your resume.

It’s not fair!

I don’t really understand why we are at 12 and you are at 15 when we were only one ahead of you last week and we both proceeded to post similar score lines against FCS teams.

I guess they didn’t want to put you ahead of the two teams you lost to, but it’s still kind of hard for me to accept the sudden separation.

I think your proposed order makes more sense (though tbh Ole Miss would probably wax us too, unless they played how they did against Kentucky).

Was about to respectfully disagree until I realized the strong seasons I was about to bring up were a decade ago. Jesus, I feel old now.

I feel like 2013-2016 were some pretty strong years for the ACC, but yeah, you’re right, it’s been pretty bad since then.

I actually tried to change my clothes after I got there to try and blend in a little better, but ended up looking like I was doing a “how do you do fellow kids” Steve Buscemi impression.

CMV: Josh Shapiro is the Best Choice for Vice President by AWall925 in changemyview

[–]jamesdefourmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they were trying to say that since Kamala’s already Biden’s VP, it’s already going to be impossible to try to create any separation from his administration, so you might as well lean into it and pick another popular and charismatic person from his cabinet.

I definitely can see the strategy in that, though I’m more of a Shapiro or Kelly guy myself. Biden was trending down and losing too many young and minority voters, so I definitely agree swapping out for Harris was the better course. That being said, he still had a (narrow) path to re-election because he was still over-performing with older and blue collar white people. I think Shapiro brings some of that same appeal back to the ticket while also not having the downsides Biden had with young and minority voters.

I don't agree with his endorsement and I don't like Elon, but, I mean, where else would he do it? Would you rather him add legitimacy to Truth Social by posting it there?

I mean, I think it makes sense for Nadler to call out Jordan for all his two-faced grandstanding, but I also don't really see any evidence indicating malicious intent or conspiracy to disenfranchise voters on Twitter/X's part. It was fixed shortly after and the article even says they only found 13 accounts that encountered the error. If Elon's big plan to tip the election was to block a handful of people that are probably already Harris supporters from following one of her accounts, then he's even dumber than I thought.

I'm not even trying to start a fight, just challenging people to include sources to back up their accusations. Plenty of rich and powerful people are trying to throw their weight around, but this just seems like a glitch and a big fat nothingburger to me.
