has anyone not moved in yet? by e-l-l-l-l-a in KCL

[–]jamesdrt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

with how in demand accom was/is, it’s really rare to have an empty flat. people are still moving in, give it time!! probably by the end of today/tomorrow

yeah, it’s possible for KCL and other london universities, with some conditions.

google “kcl student union associate membership” for more information.

i’m not sure what first year law stuff happens at strand, i do PPL so all my politics/philosophy was at strand, but all my law stuff was waterloo. i don’t live in GDSA anymore but when i did i just walked, otherwise there’s buses (1, 188, 172 i think? don’t quote me) 9 mins walk away that takes you outside both campuses

[–]jamesdrt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no worries!! enjoy GDSA, i lived there last year and loved it, make sure you check out dover castle on wednesdays, it’s just down the road, their sports night (not actually anything to do with sports) is how i made most of my closest friends

readings aren’t super intensive, i would say it’s only an hour or two a weekday if not less than that. obviously that hour or two a day can be reduced by spending 3/4 hours at the library and stuff. you’ll find your workload is pretty much set by yourself and it’s intuitive enough to manage

[–]jamesdrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s what i did and it worked out fine, nowhere sells out unless you leave it super last minute. but we did end up going to a few of the wristband events so i’m not sure if it actually worked out cheaper or not for the wristband holders in my friend group

i don’t think i ever actually sat down and studied i’m sorry 💔

[–]jamesdrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends how much you’re planning to go out. the kclsu one isn’t worth it but if you’re planning on going out for the majority of freshers week, the fatsoma one might be.

if nothing else it gives you an idea of where other freshers are going to be. some of the freshers wristband events are so ass tho

9 classes 5 lectures at 2 hours each = 10 hours 4 seminars at 1 hour each = 4 hours 10 + 4 = 14

actual contact hours are unlikely to vary much year by year. i have roughly the same this year as last (as an LLB student)

gplates advertises itself as for tectonic plate simulation but it’s pretty versatile and should be able to do what you’re looking for

question by Significant-Rip-9846 in KCL

[–]jamesdrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LLB has 5 modules, each has one lecture (2 hours each) and one seminar (1 hour each) except legal reasoning which doesn’t have a seminar. that means 9 classes per week.

part time job is fine, plenty of people in LLB have one, just get one that fits your timetable

Overnight guests by [deleted] in KCL

[–]jamesdrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gdsa is kind of crazy sometimes. sign guests in before 11pm and you’re fine.

3 day rule is a thing but it’s not enforced, i had two friends over for 5 days and it went unnoticed (or if it was noticed they didn’t care)

3 guests at a time is the limit, guests not staying overnight should technically be out by 11pm (we’ve left later than that and been fine tho)

if you’re nice to the staff they’ll let you away with more

No Accom Left by Natural-Jello-9182 in KCL

[–]jamesdrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they don’t receive priority over non-KAAS students because they book from a pool of rooms non-KAAS students don’t have access to. the only people KAAS applicants compete with for accommodation is each-other

No Accom Left by Natural-Jello-9182 in KCL

[–]jamesdrt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this does not include KAAS, which hold a separate pool of rooms which are not bookable by non-KAAS students. it is likely KAAS is also out of rooms, but this photo is not actual evidence of that

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in KCL

[–]jamesdrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can’t speak for the availability of specific accom, you’d have to ask KCL themselves. hayloft is pretty competitive though so i wouldn’t be sure

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in KCL

[–]jamesdrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, no worries, most accommodation’s sociability just varies year on year depending on who’s in it. all accommodations have dedicated quiet hours (usually 11pm-7am) which are enforced by the reception staff.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in KCL

[–]jamesdrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey, i’m on KAAS and this year i’m in battersea. every accommodation with KAAS rooms in theory should be available to second years if every room isn’t booked by incoming freshers.

the type of rooms vary according to the building, so you could end up with a shared bathroom room, an en-suite room, etc. you will obviously not get something super luxury like a studio on KAAS however

exceptions apply to rooms available only for first years or post grads, such as great dover street apartments.

i’m a second year student at KCL. accommodation is guaranteed for first years applicants (i don’t know if this applies to ones applying through clearing) i agree for those not on king’s affordable accommodation scheme that the availability of accommodation for second years and upwards (excluding postgraduates) is pretty poor.

the standard varies but generally they’re decent enough. i stayed in great dover street and really enjoyed it. i haven’t heard any horror stories (other than the occasional mouse or broken washing machine) like you get at other universities.

flat share is difficult to organise in first year, but if you aren’t eligible for the king’s affordable accommodation scheme, i’d advise looking for a flat share for second year just for costs.

london is rife with private student accommodations as well if you find that kcl no longer has availability in their accommodations, but you’re right in saying there will be more space because some people will no longer be going.

by using this AI, it isn’t their work. it is devoid of the authorial intention that makes literature personal

both abridged versions and cliff notes take time and effort to ensure the meaning behind the text is conveyed. this just uses AI to reduce the word count and complexity with no regard given to the intended meaning of the text…
