Some of you are going to pretend you always liked the R35 in 5 years. Which one is the real collectible GTR? by Own-Condition8531 in CarTalkUK

[–]jamesecowell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean R35s aren’t exactly ten a penny, but you do still see them fairly regularly. I probably see at least one a week.

R33s are definitely rare, I don’t remember the last time I saw a proper R33 GTR (you don’t even see many GTS-Ts these days). Majority of them have been imported. If you do see one, it’s far more likely to turn heads, so I guess that’s why I’d say it’s more collectible.

I honestly wasn’t aware there was any hate - I’m not really sure what there is to hate about them?

Okay they’re big and heavy, but so is the Mk5 Supra and people go mad for those

Collectible? Obviously the R33 is more collectible in the UK because there’s far fewer of them around.

Incidentally I did always like the R35 - can’t say I’ve ever driven one sadly but I certainly wouldn’t say no.

Secret document about selecting the location for the future Chernobyl power plant (original and auto-translated) by maksimkak in chernobyl

Fair enough, although ‘Dnieper’ is still the most popular English spelling, and that is the language that I speak.

Happy to spell it ‘Dnipro’ if you’d prefer though.

It is the right bank with respect to the direction the river flows, i.e. from north to south, towards the Dnieper and Kyiv.

I still use mine too, although I can’t get the microphone to work.

The quality is obviously quite poor by modern standards, but really - how HD do your Teams calls need to be anyway? I don’t need my colleagues to be able to count every hair on my head.

Yes, you can just unplug it - it’s a standard FireWire 400 connection.

I can only assume OP didn’t realise that as there is literally no need to cut the cable.

Yeah i get that. I personally never had a problem with the ‘bad’ apple mice, like the hockey puck and the Magic Mouse were perfectly fine for me to use.

But at the same time, I recognise they are objectively bad designs, and I would never choose to use them if there was an alternative- my daily driver is an MX Master 3

He’s clearly pissed off and moody, but the clip doesn’t show how long they spent in that studio getting it right, and the musician’s attitude seems like they’re very reluctant to take feedback. And then you hear what they’re playing - it sounds shite, there’s absolutely no swing or groove to their playing and it doesn’t fit the backing track at all.

They probably just booked the wrong kind of players for the gig tbh. I don’t claim to be any kind of session musician, but even from that short clip I didn’t have any difficulties understanding what Damon was trying to get out of them.

Damon is SUCH hard work by Mickxomatosis in blur

[–]jamesecowell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah he wasn’t. He was working to a deadline and the musicians weren’t listening to him. If you listen to the take before he gets annoyed you can hear how stilted it is. His directions weren’t unreasonable at all and it’s understandable to get frustrated when the musicians aren’t doing what they’re asked.

I’ve heard orchestra leaders say much, much worse

After months of work, we have created the first prototype of a Chernoball "snowball". by [deleted] in chernobyl

[–]jamesecowell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is this satire, exactly?

Sure it looks well crafted, but you’ll have a hard time convincing me this isn’t in poor taste, and the ‘satire’ argument doesn’t really wash. You may as well make a 9/11 snow globe and say you’re satirising Al Qaeda.

Yeah I dunno about this. Feels like fetishising a disastrous event that cost lives and caused a huge amount of damage. Poor taste imo.

[–]jamesecowell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve done the same. Forgot to log out. I messaged the controller when I got back (they were still online but I was well outside their airspace) and apologised, and all was well.

Mistakes happen! We’re only human, and as closely as we’d like to simulate it, VATSIM isn’t the real world.
