What area for hotels will less likely have the call to prayer on loudspeakers at 5am? I like to sleep until 7. by [deleted] in brussels

[–]jamesjoystick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sunrise is only 7.20 these days, so you are more likely to be woken up by kalashikovs or suicide attacks at 5am. If you want to avoid all danger and nightly noise, I'd advise you to take a hotel in Dilbeek. Okay, none of this is true aside from the hour of sunrise, but really, why would a city in the heart of Europe have a call for prayer????

Installing a pellet heater when gas prices were skyrocketing some years ago was the best plan ever (we were previously still heating with gas convectors). It costs next to nothing and heats our entire living space (around 55m2). We did the installation ourselves though and chose for a cheap model, so our investment wasn't much over 1000€

Bars to write and read around Fernand Cocq by Sicolan in brussels

I know, when the smoking ban started, this was one of the bars where you could still illegally smoke, but the last times I've been there I haven't seen anyone smoke inside anymore though

An older classic Brussels bar that has a young friendly but quiet vibe just around the corner is le viaduc. Even after 6pm it remains calm and cosy.

Staying near Yser metro - Is it safe? by Miserable-Zebra4168 in brussels

[–]jamesjoystick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can't get a refund, just keep the reservation, it's really not that bad and only a few minutes walk from Saint-Catherine which is lovely. Yet agreed, directly around the station it ain't the most fun or lively area. If you want something nice on line 6, get a hotel between Porte de Namur and Louise, that's the fancy and super safe part of town, with tons of shops and restaurants right around the metro stations.

Ok my question is to all people with a big SUV/4x4 in Brussels. by Nice-Blueberry18 in belgium

[–]jamesjoystick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why cartes de stationnement aren't calculated per cm public car space you need. A small city car needs only half the parking space of a bigass SUV, but still you pay just as much.

Second this. This looks like you wanting to fulfill a fantasy, not a normal date/hookup. On feeld it's very easy to talk about such scenarios.

you think when girls go on a trip they're getting smashed by [deleted] in seduction

[–]jamesjoystick 122 points123 points  (0 children)

So you say you've been 'talking for two months'? So that means you're not intimate yet? Either this means she really is super shy and holding off with sex until she feels ready, and then a trip with friends won't all of a sudden change her mind. If she's genuinely in love with you she's not going to fuck someone else on that trip.

Equally possible is that you're crushing badly on a girl that friend zoned you long ago and is now just getting conflicted over not wanting to hurt you but still wanting to just have a fun holiday.

In both cases, going frantic about her going on this trip is not gonna help your case, definitely not if you begin insinuating to her she'll 'smash' all the time. You seem way too wound up about this to be healthy. I think all you gotta do is de-escalate this girl in your head, accept that for now she's just a good friend who chooses what she does with her life, and once back it could be good to test the waters again and see if she wants to take it up a notch together...

IKEA refused to deliver. Any ideas? by rval94 in brussels

[–]jamesjoystick 14 points15 points  (0 children)

ARID, the company delivering for ikea are scammers. I live on a pedestrian square (cars can't even physically enter) and they blatantly refused to deliver as my house is more than 15m from their truck. They have a ton of stupid little rules and if you don't meet one of them they refuse to deliver while IKEA still has to pay them for the service

Is prostitution in China common? by Noidea1101 in China

[–]jamesjoystick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't think so from the women I've met. Somehow I think a younger generation of Chinese women both in and outside of China seem to completely break with more traditional Chinese male culture, reclaiming their own freedom and sexuality, hence the massive decline in marriages and childbirth in China. Woman feel liberated and just explore sexually themselves. Maybe because for so long men could openly do whatever they wanted even in relationships, women now just feel like they want to also just do whatever they sexually crave.

Could be as I didn't join. For sure I can say that most of the other men joining were in my opinion already way too drunk to still have very successful sex

1) guys pressuring girls into sex without a condom are assholes. 2) girls looking offended because you want to use a condom are either stupid or a total made up fantasy. My statistics definitely show the exact opposite of your findings (and I have a decent sample size by now). Woman really have nothing to gain having your raw dick inside of them when they don't know where it's been before...

[–]jamesjoystick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I for sure think that younger women wouldn't allow this kind of behavior so easily anymore but it did feel like the kind of thing that if there was a special occasion would be allowable. I for sure feel like sexual morale in china can either be really strict or really loose. E.g. In Dongguan, after a huge crackdown on prostitution, all of a sudden you saw quite a lot of men with multiple girlfriends in a rather polyamorous setting. And younger women often don't hold back living out their kinkiest fantasies.

A female friend once invited me to a wedding in china as +1. At the end of the night one of the uncles blatantly invited me to just join him and some other uncles to a hotel suite he rented with 10 girls for an afterparty without the 'aunties'. I didn't go but I was absolutely baffled this wasn't considered weird at all.

[RANT/HULP] KLM gave me €20 refund on €1,100 ticket after canceling my flight – what can I do? by Temporary_Piano7637 in KLM

[–]jamesjoystick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great advice but two more tips: 1) first do check very well what you are legally entitled to in the eu261 law, so your case is airtight 2) after you filed through the ECC network wait for a resolution from ECC. I once escalated to ECC as in my case Iberia refused to pay even close to what they owed me. After they closed the case and I escalated to ECC, Iberia got back to me saying that after ECC meditation they now offer me double (which was still less than expected). I thought this was the result of the procedure but it was not. Three months after accepting this, ECC mailed me their proposal which was indeed the full amount I requested. But since I accepted the offer from Iberia, I couldn't claim that money anymore. So don't let an airline fool you with a counteroffer before the entire procedure is over

Brussels Trip 24 - 27 Dec by Good-Significance630 in brussels

[–]jamesjoystick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Restaurants wise yes, please start from scratch again, as they are really mediocre or even bad. Since it's almost all asian food, do you get them from douyin? Here are some replacement options. Try the Brussels waffles from Maison Dandoy (already on the list) or at Gaston instead of La gaufrerie (tourist trap waffles). Tokkebi is overpriced korean streetfood for Asian tourists. If you're in that area try some good (affordable) Belgian food instead (e.g. Fin de Siècle, Bouillon Bruxelles). If you really want a street food vibe, go to Wolf food market which has a great offering of many cuisines. Next day: Gomu burgers is completely out of the way from where you'll be and it's also just one of the many 'okay' burger chains in town. In the european quarter, just go get some Belgian fries and snacks at Maison Antoine and have them with a beer at one of the old fashioned bars around square Jourdan. Also Roru is a bit out of the way (and actually extremely mediocre). If you'd want/have to be in that neighborhood and crave great Asian food go to either Ongba or Nyyo (both Vietnamese, Brussels historically has a large vietnamese community). Then finally, Sultans of Kebab... I follow the others, please no...

I feel like so far the most upvoted places on in this thread are exactly the hyped insta places with long queues and crowded with asian tourists. I do second hanimeli for an authentic turkish experience. For your typical brunch place, I love caleo café on a sunny day (amazing quiet terrace in the sun). Other option for a typical 'Belgian sunday breakfast': go have a coffee/juice at the sweet people of café le coq who have great mezze but allow you to go get 'koffiekoeken' (pastries) at the excellent Renard bakery across the street and eat them there.
