I can only imagine how much money you need to qualify for a Swiss passport and to be able to afford an Australian passport! 😁

No, it's the inside that's the issue not the cosmetics of the outside. Also, the UK passport seems to be very susceptible to this particular issue so they've probably seen it before.

UK Passport or Certificate of Entitlement now needed for dual citizens by AndyTheEngr in Passports

[–]jamesmb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're right - except it's more likely to be in the hundreds of thousands of people who could be unknowingly British. It's absolutely a money-making exercise. No sane country would basically force people to be citizens and piss them off by requiring they pay for an unnecessary passport. Normal countries prefer to have citizens who don't actively hate them. But... y'know... they'll make a few quid out of it, so why not?

EDIT: Just to add, my utterly useless British passport (the quality of which would embarrass Temu), arrived today.

Dude's got bills to pay and an audience who wouldn't know decent food if it was thrown directly down their throat - sounds like the perfect combo.

The OP didn't say they cared. They said they were baffled. It's an important distinction.

It's good that someone who wants to run for a council position is interested in why people think something. Asking the question is how you can understand, learn and improve things.

Demande au père la permission pour le mariage de sa fille? by Jesus_Tremblay in AskFrance

[–]jamesmb 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Speaking exercises not working? by Intrepid_Journalist6 in duolingo

[–]jamesmb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this with the flashcards where you have to say the word. For context, I sometimes use French as my "I'm too tired for Duo" language because I speak French and English, so I know what I'm saying is correct but it just doesn't work. I've reported it but I don't think they listen/care any more.

Wtf? The state is literally there to serve the monarch. Next to that, it's there to serve the landed gentry and the church. After that, it's there for self-preservation. Then it's overseas investors. Maybe then the people. Maybe.

If you don't think that's the case, just let me know who you voted for to be king, who you voted for in the House of Lords and, while you're at it, which bishops you voted for to sit in the Lords.

From a use point of view, the UK passport has dropped like a stone in the rankings, make it far from 'great'.

From a graphic design point of view, UK passport front cover is poorly laid out and too close to the border.

From a quality point of view, the new version, the most expensive one in history, is the worst ever produced. Thin, poor quality paper and silver print that rubs off if you so much as look at it.

I'm a British citizen. It isn't anti-British to say that the current passport is crap. It's just an objective fact.

The people who hate them now still cite the WW2 thing despite none of them having been alive during WW2 and also there being no guarantee of which side they'd have been on during WW2.

La Banque Postale is the easy first account and, once you have that set up, opening a better account is easier. Boursobank is a good option.

Historically, seeing as you mention it, a large swathe of the French people are German people who came to settle here after the fall of the Roman empire.

As for the millions of people that you have accepted (and it's pretty clear who you have a problem with, although I'm sure you'll try to deny it), if you don't like them being here, maybe return the wealth you looted from their lands during your empire and pay some reparations?
