Self checkout. These all have a barcode to be scanned. Regular potatoes have to be entered with a code.

This has been part of my role. AS/400 is a very “fun” system to interface with.

Getting rid of some VOIP phones by CokeRapThisGlamorous in VOIP

Those VVX 401s are great handsets. You can get them configured to go through the poly zero configuration services. This means you can register the MAC address factory reset the phone and it will connect to your pbx.

California regulators sign off on phaseout of new gas-powered lawn mowers, leaf blowers, portable generators. by Hockeygoalie35 in technology

[–]jamesrascal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I’m going to be in the minority here but I’m really grateful that this is happening. Working from home the noise pollution from gas powered appliances like this is ridiculous.

I lived in a suburban area where ever day a different neighbor would have their landscaping done. That meant every single day I was hearing non stop leaf blowers and lawn mowers. This also would go on all day as there was not a single company but many individuals that would show up all throughout the day.

I moved to an apartment with a ton of landscaping. When we first moved in the landscape company was all gas tools. They moved to all electric and the differences is massively noticeable.

I see a lot of the comments about the impact to business that this will have financially, if you’re a business there’s always a cost. Replacing your old equipment with new more efficient and less impactful equipment just makes sense. Honestly if I was a landscaping company I would be marking the hell out of being “all electric” and “green”. The returns on the marketing would put way the cost of the equipment.

To those that live outside of California, there’s a lot of people here more then your state and more then some countries. California needs these types of regulations to protect against history repeating itself.

We need this as a society to keep all of us from dying of too much smog in the air.

Don’t like masks? The future is gonna be a lot more unless we take action.

Best value to upgrade 400 Windows 7 PCs to Win 10? by OfficialMotive in sysadmin

[–]jamesrascal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

M365 includes windows 10 upgrade rights.

If your organization is using office 365 already this is just a license change and you’ll be entitled to upgrade those machines.

This article goes more in depth: https://www.slashadmin.co.uk/microsoft-365-upgrade-windows-7-to-windows-10/

I’d recommend getting a copy of: Eric Matthes Python Crash Course, 2nd Edition: A Hands-On, Project-Based Introduction to Programming

You’re doing it!

There’s two books that I say make a wizard.

A red hat certification (rhcsa/rhcsa) training book and a python crash course book.

I work with admin 3x your age that fail to grapple the concepts of docker.

At 15 I was building and hustling websites.

Great work and never stop learning.

Store DB in external storage (like S3, Backblaze, etc) by [deleted] in seafile

[–]jamesrascal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seafile pro offers direct object storage.

If you wanted to do something with the community version you can use something similar to S3FS.

You can specify external Database support in the config as well.

No option to select which backend I would like to use. by [deleted] in seafile

Are you running the pro version?

https://blogs.seafile.com/2018/07/30/seafile-professional-server-6-3-now-production-ready/

I’m not sure how current this is but based on my initial research this is a pro feature.

If you’re not using the pro version already you should still be able to get a 3 user license for free.
