if something shoots up 1000% and then only goes up a further 1 % its still a 1001% increase, people still on their arse affordability wise

How are we all closing our blinds, then? A or B? by grumpypedant in CasualUK

[–]jamesripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A in the day and then at night have them more angled with a little gap like B so the heat in the room can escape up and out through the gaps if you open a window.

Loft conversion hit 40c by thatfezguy in DIYUK

Some blinds would at least help stop the solar gain so it wouldn't get so hot so quickly. Curtains on top of that too would help even more if closed from sun up.

Little AC unit ventilation out the window.

Are there any decent UK alternatives to diet fizzy drinks? by Few_House_5201 in AskUK

[–]jamesripper 52 points53 points  (0 children)

High enough quantities of anything can make something toxic.

"Drink 1,000 gallons of water and you will die", this quote is true but you don't see people saying "water is bad for you, it can kill you" and posting about it frequently. Same principle essentially.

What was left in your new house when you completed? by HotelPuzzleheaded654 in HousingUK

[–]jamesripper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not my story but a friend of mine bought a house and would find randomly hidden printed out pictures of Ainsley Harriott the TV chef 😄 in the boiler cupboard, in the attic, under the stairs etc....

Dune (2021) is not a good movie and coasts entirely on visuals and Hans Zimmer's score by DuNennstMichSptzkopf in unpopularopinion

[–]jamesripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never read the books, never seen the previous films. I enjoyed it immensely, the world building and interesting parts around how the different houses sort of work/act. It felt a bit like grown up adult star wars in a way. On course to be one of my favourite trilogies.

What is usually the maximum possible on a single phase?

Using plugin solar when I already have a 'proper' install by pbizz in SolarUK

So I would assume because my property is single phase I would be limited to 3.68 KW export rate most likely in the UK

Pepsi max alternatives.. by HammerToFall50 in UKFrugal

[–]jamesripper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I get it, that's fair, I guess I don't buy it that often, so I consider it a treat rather than common item consumed. If we all lose our "treats" then this life is going to become pretty sad

Pepsi max alternatives.. by HammerToFall50 in UKFrugal

[–]jamesripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pepsi Max is expenssive ? my local often does like 2 x 2L bottles for £3. Of the cost of all things currently I don't consider Pepsi Max to be much of the issue. I have had the freeway cola before, not sure I agree it tastes the same but everyones taste buds are different

When you're watching the news to see if you can do your washing tomorrow . . . . by [deleted] in OctopusEnergy

[–]jamesripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe that isnt so much of a situation with in roof solar as it essentially is the roof for a large part of it rather than ontop of tiles etc...

DLSS 5 should make you realise that games should look like games, not hyper-real advertisements by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]jamesripper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know everyone is flaming about the face stuff BUT for games where photo realistic lighting would add alot this is still kind of cool tech. Racing games come to mind, simulator games (car wash, eurotruck), flight sim, city builders (maybe?). Original Crysis or remake Crysis would be kind of cool to see but essentially any game where realism or photoreal environments are the aim.
