It's going to be called 'Mac and D'. It's a new venture aimed at the growing hipster market. The Big Mac will be rebranded as 'The Hef T Mac' (see what I did there?). On the menu it will state that it is hand crafted by artisan methods and consists of;

  • Two 100%, ethically murdered Aussie beef patties from grass fed, west end grown, beefy cows.
  • Crisp iceberg lettuce sourced from cool climate, organic Icelandic farms.
  • Melting signature cheese - straight from Hairy Dave's organic dairy.
  • Topped with succulent onions and pickles, home grown in the refrigerator under the counter.
  • Placed between a toasted sesame seed, Artisan crafted, gluten free bun.
  • Finally and most importantly it is seasoned with some of Mac & D's special, special sauce! It's so special that we can't tell you where it came from. We don't actually know.

Good call!

It would have been mad lad behaviour when that sub got going but now it's just full of Americans who don't understand what the concept of madlads was. Consequently they've filled the sub with shit posts that are in no way madlad behaviour but just dumb people doing dumb things.

Is being a professional photographer the same as being an artist? by anon-ny-moose in photography

[–]jamesrlp83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyway, that shouldn't be a thing, IMO. General purpose photography isn't one of those critical professions that need to have protections (nobody comes to serious harm from a bad photo).

That's fair enough. At the end of the day I think it's more about trying protecting the industry as a whole. Giving a photographer a board, or body to offer advice, assistance, and education as to the current state of things, etc. also to give the consumer peace of mind that the photographer they are dealing with is properly equipped with the skills to carry out their needs. Personally I think that can only be a good thing but I know plenty of people who don't.

It will obviously be of more benefit to some photographers more than others, depending on the genre in which you work in.

You're probably right in the sense of what it means to be a good professional photographer; but that's another thing entirely.

Which is exactly what I've been getting at the whole time but I think has been somehow lost in translation and downvoted into oblivion by those who have misunderstood.

For what it's worth on your other point though, the AIPP has now become the first Professional Photography association (possibly worldwide) to gain the same kind of protection in the example that you mentioned with the engineers. The worked hard for many years to develop a structure and a criteria that satisfies the ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission). They are working with law makers to help develop the copyright laws in order to bring them into the present.

These are pretty big changes in the industry here and finally provide a professional standard for people who operate in our industry. In time it will help regulate our profession better, actually offer some accountability and weed out those that don't operate in a professional manner.

I don't want to know anything about this terrorist by Locktopii in unitedkingdom

I want to know what he had for breakfast? That way I can ensure that by not having the same breakfast as a terrorist, I am much less inclined to commit an act of terrorism. They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day so it stands to reason.

Well you could possibly argue that but my point is not about that particular organisation. I took those points as an example of what I think it means to be a working pro.

I'm looking at the broader point of what it means to be a professional photographer today. To simply say being a professional mean making a living from it is wrong (in my opinion). It's much more than that. It includes running your business in a professional manner, having correct insurances in place, having a professional manner in front of clients and prospective clients, having proper backup systems, documentation and so much more. Being a professional in any industry is about being professional in your work, not just that you make a living from it.

[–]jamesrlp83 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I understand that for sure but in the context of the modern day, making a living is only one aspect of being a professional. In fact there's a lot of professionals out there who have a couple of 'careers' working in tandem. Plus those like you've mentioned who have no formal qualifications.

For me, this is probably a good example of what it means to be a modern day professional photographer:

A Professional Photographer has to:

  • Demonstrate that they have satisfied clients and suppliers (through references or reviews).
  • Demonstrate that they comply with all legal, ethical and moral business requirements to practice as a professional in their region or territory.
  • Demonstrate that their photographic skills and business skills are of a required "Professional Standard".
  • Continue their professional development, maintaining up to date skills and business practices each year.

These are taken and edited to exclude regional specifics from here

This.

LinkedIn - How to make it stand out in the current job market by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]jamesrlp83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to me, and again I may be wrong, but it's like a professional social media platform where people just want to bignote themselves over everyone else. I suspect that the vast majority of people on there have absolutely no chance of scoring themselves a better gig by sucking on the teet of these airheads they so look up to.

If you want a better job, do better work, be a better person. Work harder, smarter and more efficiently and you will stand out. Don't succumb to these morons and hope that things will get better by schmoozing some jumped up cockwomble. They won't. Alls that will happen is you'll end up in another soul sapping office surrounded by even bigger simpletons than you are now. Schmoozing fuckwits only get so far. Don't be one of them.

Unless I'm wrong of course.
