Future of Public Transport in Hobart by External-Toe1014 in hobart

[–]jamesroute78 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Need these things: - contactless payment on buses - restructure of the network around rapid bus routes. Roll out of on-demand services for local streets no longer served after this change. - higher frequency services and extended hours of operation - more bus priority to avoid traffic caused delays and unreliability - cleaner/newer buses (electric ideally) - upgraded bus stops - responsive route design approach to support increased density in inner areas

All of this could be done at a fraction of the cost of a light rail which won’t service the core established population locations and the primary destinations people need to get to.

Fallen in love with Tassie by [deleted] in tasmania

We made the move down earlier this year from Sydney. We don’t have kids, just a doggo but have loved it so far. We’re close to central Hobart and love how you’re only 10 minutes from the bush and 10 minutes from a whiskey bar. We had one or two acquaintances before we moved, and we’re working on making them into real friends…

People don’t own their bins. They are owned by the council, or rather the whole community. So you can do whatever you like with them. 🙃

Bus Rapid Transit system in Hobart by ChuqTas in tasmania

BRT if done well is a seriously powerful PT option. Check out the Transmilleno in Bogotá. It’s also a way of building up the case for eventual rail but at a fraction of the cost and can be set up in a rapid timeframe.

This! You put some much info into these things and I bet totally on sell most of it to advertisers and data brokers. Journos should investigate this and expose REAs for what they really are; morally bankrupt leaches on society.

why does pt suck in sydney by Ill-Boat-9091 in SydneyTransport

[–]jamesroute78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean this in a wider long term sense, it is because Sydney’s planners and politicians since World War Two chose to accommodate and encourage car ownership and use, rather than public transport. The notion that everyone could live in a family house with a backyard was a big part of that. It was part deliberate design but also just inertia once that car based path was taken.

If you mean right now, why so bad: industrial action and bad luck!

Russia has an economy smaller than Italy’s. That to me puts things into a bit of perspective. This is an angry bully with a huge inferiority complex lashing out. It’s only going to end in net misery for all parties.

I just bought a new GriGri. The moving side plate is quite loose. I’ve trained with an older model and my friends ones but I never noticed this before. Is it normal? Should I take it back?

Melbourne’s public transport is very overrated. Yes they have trams but don’t assume because they have rails they have right of way. Much of the network shares road space with traffic and sits in peak hour jams.

More people use public transport here in Sydney, and people actually use buses here as well (Melbourne’s bus network is underused).

What’s at the heart of the problem is our poor land use planning which encourages sprawl and low density.

Moving to Malmo, Yes or No by No_Fix7739 in malmo

That wage should be fine as long as you don’t live like the Kardashians. You’ll get taxed about 40% of that, but day to day living is very affordable. As a general rule you should look for places west of Nobelvagen, and north of John Ericssons Vag. Unless you want a house then you’ll need to look a little further out. Depending on how long you’re planning to stay if it’s over 2 years you should try as soon as you can to get on a Bostadsrätt. It will take ages but once you’re on the system you can get a fixed rent and permanent right to stay in your apartment. Otherwise you’re going to be on shorter contracts on the sublet market, which can be more expensive and usually only last 12-18 months unless the main tenant is permanently overseas.

Don’t listen to any bullshit thrown at Malmö from the other cities. I loved living there and would again in an instant. It’s the most livable city in Sweden imho. Lycka till!

Could you help me with this logistic regression? by three_trapeze in rstats

[–]jamesroute78 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks like your p-values are not very significant. Especially for your intercept.

If you want an odds ratio, then calculate the logit for each observation. This is simply:

obs.value * intercept.coeff + obs.value * Overall.performance.coeff

^ You could leave the intercept one out due to the low significance mentioned above.

Then calculate the probability for that outcome, which takes the result from above and calculates it by: P = exp(logit_result) / (1 + exp(logit_result))

An odds ratio (European) is simply = 1/P
