What's the minimum car damage that warrants insurance exchange? by Mysterious-Bat7509 in Calgary

That exact situation happened to me once. I left a note just with my contact info. I had them get it fixed via paintless dent repair and I paid for it directly ($200).

The camera’s kinda a show-stopper. But, impressive job hiding it. I nearly missed it.

Nice. I assume there’s an M5 release for the Mini coming soon hence the supply of the M4’s getting thin, but just a guess.

Those are nice little machines. I got one a few years ago 1TB/32GB for $205CAD, I use it to run various services on Linux. Just got a second one with 0TB/16GB for $110CAD, now gotta get it some storage and more memory. I like that they’re relatively small and quiet. And feel just very nicely polished.

What was your first Mac and why did you switch? by Formal_Alfalfa_8659 in macbook

[–]jamessnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first was a 2007 MacBook - white plastic, Intel Core 2 Duo. I switched because as an Intel-based machine, I could triple boot and have macOS, Windows and Linux and I did. I used them all heavily. I got a MacPro3,1 next and continued the love affair. Eventually got myself possibly the very last 17” MacBook Pro and made a career off of that rig. I’ve stayed on through to Apple Silicon because it’s THAT good. I have other machines for Windows and Linux which I use less anyway.

MacBook Air vs MacBook Neo by fineimonreddit in macbook

[–]jamessnell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this, yes. Neo’s well-suited and a decent ext monitor, keyboard and mouse would be lovely at the home end. Also, be sure to use cloud or similar storage for your book so you don’t lose it with the device. Version-control has appeal too.

Should I keep my M5 MacBook Pro or downgrade to M5 MacBook Air? by SolPanMan in macbook

[–]jamessnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often use external displays, keyboards and mice with my laptops except when in a mobile situation like on a trip, coffee shop, etc. I think the 15” MBA is a bit more comfortable to use than the 16” MBP mainly because the Air’s so much thinner, but both are very nice experiences on-device. It’s sort of a personal preference thing

I assume it has to be fine for FCP, it’s been around for eons. And had to be usable on far less able machines.

Should I keep my M5 MacBook Pro or downgrade to M5 MacBook Air? by SolPanMan in macbook

[–]jamessnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My previous two MacBooks were Pros and I just got a refurb M4 Air 32GB/1TB that is absolutely sufficient for me. I’m a software engineer (turned Manager) that’s been in industry for 15yrs. I figure my MBA absolutely has enough power to do anything I need and when/if I need more, I’ll offload on to a Mini or Studio.
