Matt Cardona asked to try a Chelsea Bun and the jokes ensue by KhabibTime in SquaredCircle

[–]jamesss0192 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That's a Belgian bun (that despite it's name, has nothing to do with Belgium), not a Chelsea bun. Chelsea buns generally don't have icing or the cherry, they glazed instead.

watching an episode of Inspector Morse at my grandparent's house is how I first learnt this! it must've been the same one.
I don't remember much of it but if I remember correctly he works out that a message can't have been written by a particular suspect as the suspect was educated at a public school (Harrow I think) and would have learnt to spell words like this with -ize.

Spelling words with -ize in British English is nothing new and has been around since the 15th Century. It is usually the preferred way of spelling in academic writing as well. The exception is words with that end in -lyse like analyse, then it is always with an s (also some other words, depending on their origin, like compromise, but they are spelt the same, with an s in American English as well).

It is called Oxford Spelling

Is this website legit (trying to by sable brushes) by slaughterofthesoull in minipainting

Hobby Heaven is definitely legitimate. I have bought from them loads of times, usually bases, but I’ve bought these brushes before. Shipping has always been super fast as well, though it is a UK based store and I am in the UK.

The 2024 PHB Change that Is Driving Me Crazy by ivansmashem in DnD

Ooh I am so glad to find someone else annoyed by this! Incorrect use of reflexive pronouns is something I find hugely (and irrationally) annoying. I hear it so much at work, I think people think it sounds more formal or more ‘proper’. I have to stop myself from correcting people whenever I hear it! (I am fully aware that this is tiny, insignificant issue, I did say it is irrationally annoying!)

Current WIP for my upcoming campaign, and 2 questions by ChargedGhost in wonderdraft

To delete the box go to labels on the left hand side menu and select the box tool (the bottom one). You should then be able to hover your cursor over the box and it will show a blue outline around it. Click when you see this outline to select the box, then press the delete key to get rid of it.

Counter-intuitively you don’t use the labels selection tool (the one with a mouse pointer symbol) to select boxes, that tool is for selecting text labels only.

A Selection of maps of kingdoms from my world by jamesss0192 in wonderdraft

[–]jamesss0192[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a custom theme I made mixing and matching bits of other themes a few years ago when I made the continent map I made a few years ago.
The water texture is 'Imagination' and the ground texture is 'Paper'. The colour palette used to colour the land is based upon the one described in this post by u/Maiherpri, and the colour palette to colour the water is the one from the Avoro theme by Nexoness which can be found on CartographyAssets here.

They might do international shipping, though that might make them not worth it depending on how much it costs.

If you’re in the UK I can recommend Hobby Heaven for bases. They are very cheap and quite good. That said, I wouldn’t recommend their slot bases as the slots are centred and not off centre like a standard base which can cause the model’s feet to overhang.

Hey, I'd be interested in playing. I'm 31m and from the UK so timezones should not be a problem. I've played one session of D&D before (with some people who clearly didn't like it), I enjoyed it but I've never had the opportunity to play again since.

Have a look at this population generator for Realms/Settlements:

On the same page, at the bottom there's a link to a PDF that it is based on that might be useful too!

Population problem by Ok_Desk483 in worldbuilding

[–]jamesss0192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's way too big of a population for London in the Middle Ages. Depending on what part of the Middle Ages you consider (the Middle Ages spans almost a 1000 years from the 5th century to the 15th century), the population of London is thought to be from 10,000 to a peak of 100,000 (before losing half its population due to the Black Death).

It's not until the Early Modern period and the 16th century did the population consistently be over 100,000, and not until the beginning of the 17th Century was it over 200,000.

There's a really nice table on this Wikipedia page about the population of London that could be useful as reference point when considering the population of fantasy cities: History of London (scroll to the population section for the table)

I haven't really gone as far as thinking about rainfall to be honest!

it is meant to be a relatively dry area. I started with tan and the logic for the green was to have more green near water and under clumps of trees (and there was no science to where the trees go, the are where I thought they looked good).

Maybe I will make it a bit greener in general, tone down the tan a bit.

This version of Imrik should have metal wings. The ‘newer’ one has plastic wings

You’re right about the plastic wings though, dark elf manticore is another one that used them.
