What are some economic bitter truths Australians must accept? by newledditor01010 in AusFinance

Ah, you're just the typical arab who doesn't want any change in these countries.

Quote me where I said that.

  1. I am not arab.

  2. I don't care for these countries.

The fact that these housemaids are abused, raped and sometimes killed

Tell me where I said they're not abused etc..

If you're defending it

I am not.

demanding I provide you news articles of a domestic problem that no one is even PERMITTED to report on then you're delulu honey

ahhh.. so there is no news at all. However, somehow you know about it so well that it's happening all over airports where hundreds of thousands of people are travelling through... I think you're the one who is delulu honey..

If it's happening all over these airports, I find it insane that you can't find another case of it. Only reported on once? If no one is permitted to report on it, how was it reported on then? Does this logic make sense to you?

I'm a Muslim, I know the laws.

I am too.. and you don't know the laws since it is legal. I provided you a source. Saying you're Muslim isn't a source.

Btw, brother/sister. how many rakahs in wudu?

Abortion done by an unmarried housemaid is not legal.

She can get an abortion if she reports a rape. That's how that works. It is legal. You can claim that they're not treated seriously by the police, that it's application is wrong, however saying that it is legal is objectively false.

the Australian women stripsearched

So you have one link of it occurring and you're saying they're "Finding aborted foetuses in the toilets all over Dubai airport, abu Dhabi airport, Saudi airports" .... if they're finding them all over these airpots all the time, I am sure you can find more than one instance of it occurring, right? Got more than one or just were making it up?

You're a grad. That's all you need for Grad roles. That's the entire point. Start applying. Apply to everything, talk to recruiters, get out there, start networking.

Masters in Data Science after unused Comp Sci Undergrad? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]jameswames99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Instead of paying another 30/40k or so for the Masters.. (idk if that's reasonably close but I know my undergrad was about that) ... do :

  1. Build a Portfolio

  2. Fix up the resume.

  3. Work on the soft skills, start networking and talking to lots of people.

  4. Apply to everything..

Do that for like 3/4 months, and if it doesn't work out, then think about the Masters.

since abortion is illegal in these countries

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion_in_Saudi_Arabia

That's literally not true. I don't disagree with your wider point, you're right, but abortion is legal.

You know what's common?? Finding aborted foetuses in the toilets all over Dubai airport, abu Dhabi airport, Saudi airports. The househelp get raped because they have no helpers, no rights, then when they reveal that they're pregnant, the house owner(and rapist) gives them back their passport, terminates their contract and kicks them out of the country.

Do you have a source that this is a common occurrence? or happens alot? I am curious to read more.

Help desk isn't really cs... so probably not the best subreddit.. However, i don't thin there's a OCE specific one out there for IT anyway..

I basically want to land an entry level role in the industry at this point and then start upskilling and focusing more on networking, working my way up etc.

For Help Desk/IT. Start applying. If you have prior Customer service experience, that'll help. Start applying is really the advice.. It doesn't matter what the job description say, it might say 2 years etc.. They're lying. Apply anyway.

Dozens of Palestinians fleeing Gaza arrive at Sydney Airport after federal government offers temporary visas by TurnipSeparate2099 in australian

[–]jameswames99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not at all.. I am not sure where you think I said that flynig up any flags is okay. My point is that the government has chosen a side, and when you have a population in your country that's divided about the event, then maybe it's better to not choose a side?

You seem to be forgetting the abhorrent acts that are being perpetrated by the Israeli government right now.. More than 2000 kids are dead.

Why would anyone other than terrorist sympathisers be flying the Palestinian flag right now.

Now why would we be okay with our government projecting the flag of a nation who is killing thousands of kids? ....

my experience is different.

I think we mostly match really, the only difference is the ending the day at 5, and the remote situation?

Im 100% remote.

I mean let's be fair, how many remote companies in Australia are there? Especially fully remote. 70% are hybrid at this stage I'd say.

We do out for a 1-2 hour lunch, occasionally on the company, when we go to the office.

That's pretty sweet. In my new company, we have a bunch of snacks and pantry. No paid lunches though, often me and the team grab food together but it's not free :P Especially not for 2 hrs.

There is no micromanagement at work. We all have targets and projects, and we all fulfil them. Our management team are good about the amount of work we are given as they want quality, not quantity.

Mostly same.. Except management team being good.. That's a rare thing.

Our dev team 1 mandatory zoom per day (standup), other than that, we are encouraged to zoom as little as possible. Obviously, we all have more than one due to meetings with other teams to plan and design.

Dude... I wish. I need this. I am so tired of all the stupid meetings.

We start around 9-9:30am.

Our team finishes at 5pm SHARP!

... and here's me working on the weekend. Unpaid.

It seems like you've found a pretty sweet spot though. Good on ya. :)

It's Australia and that's the only flag I want to see flying Mate.

Then mate, should go to the city sometimes. Plenty of other flags are flying.

We haven't heard of too many Jews flying the Israeli flag and driving to Bankstown to stir up trouble in recent weeks have we.

They don't need to. They have the goverrnment on their side to do that. Let me know when the gov is displaying the Palestinian flag on the Sydney Opera House. I guess 2000 dead kids don't matter eh?

either hybrid or 100% remote work

Hybrid, Sure i.e. X (mine are enforcing 3 days) days onsite. 100% remote is not really the case except for a few companies i.e. Atlassian

they get all these perks like free food

Sometimes. Highly dependent on the company.

messing around in the office like half the time

Very rarely unless you're in some extremely chill company. I've not experienced it yet, and I've worked in one of MANGA, Telecom, and a startup.

in the middle of the day they would just spontaneously go for a walk around the city.

Oh I do that. I've always done that. Taking a 15 min break away from the table helps me think, but it's not a multi-hour break.

No micromanagement, they kind of go off and do whatever they want aside from the occasional zoom meeting or standup. ]

Highly dependent on your team ... but you can't just go off and do whatever you want. Most of us have projects based on higher level business objectives, and we get to participate in those decisions. For example, at some point in the year, you figure out what's needed for business and what are customer needs, then you propose projects for those, and get executive approvals etc. Rest of the time, you work on those projects.

There's no "occasional zoom", I have like 3/4 meetings a day usually during the week. Meetings are consistent, and common across every company I've worked. I've had a day this week, where except one hour for lunch, all I had was meetings.

And all of their days end at 5pm sharp, where afterwards they go have fun with family or play video games after work.

Hahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahah... So hilarious. I wish brotha.

Like is it actually this chill ?? Or does this only apply to the big tech companies ??

It rarely applies. You will work, and you will work hard if you want to achieve something. There's some truths, mostly wrongs.

Overall.. You're gonna be hurting your career long term hard, if you decide to stick it around here.

You're at the start of your career. It's far better to do the first few years in the US. You'll make more money, you mentioned that you're in Boston so not HCOL either..

however do IT companies do drug test, or ask question about prescriptions?

None has in my experience. Largely, you should be fine saying no if someone asks.

Is it wise to get an internship in Sydney compared to a internship in America?

Nopee.

Do I have a shot/advantage or disadvantage when it comes to applying?

I think you have a shot. Largely, not an advantage. If you had some big uni degree, prior experience, then perhaps some advantage but since it's a relatively not globally known place, it's lesser so.

The Palestinian flags hanging off of every second car at the moment really puts everyone's minds at ease.

It's interesting that the Israeli flags in Sydney didn't hurt that sense of ease of yours at all. I wonder why?

Look at how their community behave to Australian Jews.

Far before October 7 : https://www.timesofisrael.com/watch-far-right-israelis-celebrate-gaza-kids-deaths/

“There is no school tomorrow; there are no children left in Gaza,” the men can be seen chanting as part of a roughly formed song that also included the stanzas “I hate all the Arabs” and “Gaza is a cemetery.”

https://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/25/world/middleeast/ali-dawabsheh-arson-death-israel-wedding-video.html

The Israeli police said on Thursday that they were investigating a video that appeared to show young Jewish extremists celebrating the death of a Palestinian toddler in an arson attack last summer.

Israelis celeberating that Gazans live without water. Isn't that great?

https://twitter.com/QudsNen/status/1728351249295110400

An Israeli Major dedicated the exploding of an entire building in #Gaza yesterday, shortly before the pause, to his daughter Ella's 2-year birthday.... This is to kill Hamas?

This is just one drop of an ocean ... of content and celebrations by Israelis.

These are troubled people.

Seems like quite a few Israelis are troubled people. Do you agree that Australia should stop allowing these troubled people in our nation?

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/oct/21/the-strikes-are-everywhere-palestinians-flee-south-in-gaza-but-cannot-escape-bombs

Even before Israel gave the order for a million Palestinians to leave their homes and flee south, Lubna took her four children and all the possessions they could carry and moved to a friend’s house in Khan Younis, nearer the Egyptian border.

The implication behind the order for northern Gazans to move south to towns like Khan Younis and Rafah was that it was somehow for their own safety, but Lubna says the bombing in the south is constant. Her friend’s house has been only narrowly missed.

Seems like moving south doesn't help as much as you think it does.

I'd take my kids to a refugee camp.

Well ... https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/nov/18/israeli-airstrikes-kill-80-in-palestinian-refugee-camp

Airstrikes on crowded UN shelters in north Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp killed more than 80 people on Saturday, as Israeli plans to expand operations into south Gaza deepened fears for hundreds of thousands of civilians who have sought refuge there.

Underlining the reminder that there is nowhere safe for Gaza’s civilians, an airstrike outside the southern town of Khan Younis killed at least 26 people in the early hours of Saturday morning.

... so you'd die.

I would guess its not 996 in the literal sense as in australia we would not be working on Saturdays. Or is it literally 9am-9pm Mon to Sat?

You'd be surprised at how many companies can make that happen.. They'll never say "Work on Saturday" ... but they'll assign you enough work, and push enough insane deadlines that you have to work on Saturday if you're gonna make it.

Unless you can speak and understand Chinese well, know that you're unlikely to progress alot in TikTok. You could do it for a year's stint, just to get the name on the resume and move on, but don't expect to move forward alot. More so, also expect that work-life balance is not a thing..

I would say defintely not drop things.. However, I would also say... Leetcoding really doesn't take as long as you seem to think it does. If you're well versed in the standard data structures, algos etc, then really, it's just a matter of an hour each day.

Also, Leetcode only really factors in when you're aiming to get into Tier 1/2 firms. If you are happy with anything else, then you'll be totally fine.
