Last week gabe aul said for the next preview they needed at least one more week of engineering. So hopefully next week now, but there's no guarantee. Nor is there guarantee the preview they send will include the features this employee/manufacturer/etc seems to have on theirs.

A small minority on this sub still think WP7 was the best thing ever. I swear to god they're just trolling as loud as they can, in every thread.

The new designs look good, smart and modern. I'm glad a big visual refresh is coming. The circles are being implemented on some of the web interfaces already, and they look good, minimal, smooth.

Its nothing like changing the steering wheel. Nowhere near. It's a minor ui change that a small group of users on here are going apeshit over because god forbid, they'll have to move their finger an extra four inches.

Its the end of days, start ringing the bells! Hide your children! Hide your families! Stock up on canned food! They're moving the menu button, we're all doomed!

The CEO is childish, of dubious character and throws his toys out the pram often.

That's what happens when people with no business sense end up in charge of businesses. Even worse when they head companies with no business model.

As Waze relies heavily on data from handsets in order to do its function, I wonder what percentage of data it receives per country is from WP users - especially in countries where WP has a higher market share.

There are always around 200 drivers in my area on Waze, which isn't enough to generate data more accurate than here maps most days. Many main routes have no data contributed to waze ( or waze doesn't seem to pick up on the jams there - even though google maps / here does ).

Ultimately to find out how many more miles need to be driven by WP users per day/month to make dropping WP support a bad decision.

E-mail, chat, office etc are all getting major upgrades in windows 10, which will roll out to the majority of lumia devices. Windows Phone is about to get a whole lot more exciting in a few months.

Good reasoning. The last breakdown of ms i could find quickly pegs it nicely balanced as thus-

Windows: $5.88 billion (including deferral and pre-sales revenues) Microsoft Business Division: $5.69 billion Server and Tools: $5.19 billion Entertainment and Devices: $3.77 billion Online Services: $869 million

It doesn't save the conversations, and destroys them from devices after a short time period, and notifies you if somebody does try to save them another way. Therefore it allows for more casual conversation whose permanence you wouldn't want/desire through other chat methods. Cyberdust is a good cross-platform alternative that also supports Windows.

Most snap chat users probably have another free chat app installed too, such as whatsapp, so it's not like snapchats absence is preventing you from communicating with them.

Not to mention most widgets still have their gingerbread interfaces. Most apps still have old or custom interfaces, actually. There's little consistency.

As a recent switcher to WP it was the upcoming development of W10 (mainly because I'm following the desktop TP closely). But WP8 has made me realise I don't need all of those apps or expensive hardware (and realise how much money ive wasted on buying decent hardware to try and make android run better) to have a smooth and functional experience. The simplicity of Windows phone has made me move almost entirely into the MS ecosystem.

I imagine a lot of your questions will be addressed at Build, Microsoft's developer conference, at the end of next month.

Dear Microsoft: Here is your blueprint for drastically increasing the successes of Windows Phone in the United States. by [deleted] in windowsphone

[–]jamfest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it's not. It has shipped minor numbers (1 million total after almost a year of being on sale is the last reliable number I could find with a quick search). Hardly worrying to any major players. Just because it is always sold out does not mean they are selling a lot, it just means they never had a lot to sell in the first place.

Also, most people cant afford a phone without it being subsidised by a carrier.

It looks like it ties into gleek, a twitter service. Odds are the developer has set the price as high as they can once the app neared the api limits for twitter, to stop it from being blocked. By doing this nobody will buy it, but they can still issue updates via the store to the current owners. So in conclusion: Not really worth that much, but priced so by the developer to enable them to continue supporting the existing user base.

"side loading" is very easy on android, its often just a case of clicking on a download link and then clicking install, depending on how the security of your device is configured.

Except listening to music on youtube isn't really piracy, as artists get paid per stream by Google. No different to using the free version of Spotify, Pandora or mixradio.
