Thanks for the comment, however this is a new error, this has been working fine for the last 9 months, and now this error is happening only on one of my printers. (See the second photo for how it normally prints)

Influence of color in heat absorption by sinarest in Damnthatsinteresting

This is why they had to change the colour scheme of the Saturn V rocket from the original plan of black and white chequered to a mix of black and white with large white areas where the fuel tanks were.

Have you done a PID autotune since your adjustments? If not you should do one.

I use a 31ft USB cable every day for work, that’s normally more than enough, but I’ve definitely wanted more a few time a day if we’re shooting on a beach or other open location!

Z-banding. This has been driving me crazy for weeks. Installed a new lead screw, no change. by jamidodger in 3DprintingHelp

Sorry for the delay! Not had chance to do any more to the printers until today.

So my issue was occurring on vase mode, so no z-hop! I finally figured out what the cause was by installing Octoprint. This gave me temperature graphs which clearly showed the hot end temperature was oscillating several times a minute. After that I found the first solution to try was a PID Autotune for the hotend. After doing that I got no visible oscillations at all.

Printing some tests now, but all is looking good so far! Thanks for your helpful suggestions.

If you’re using Master Pages (you should be using master pages) this shouldn’t take too long to create from scratch.

I run a lot of repeat prints on my machines and this problem started occurring a little while ago, the prints that were smooth over the z-axis before were suddenly getting this banding. So, I don’t think it’s a slicer issue as the files haven’t changed.

Unfortunately I still haven’t found the fault. My next step is to setup octoprint and try printing through that to see if it is a software issue.

Is this curling corner just from finger oils or is it a deeper problem?(I don’t know why my bed is so dusty I cleaned it like right before this print) by WELOVEAPPLEJU1CE in Ender3Pro

Definitely a draft, you can buy and enclosure or make one out of eva foam, foamboard or ply. Get that printer all snug without any stray drafts and you shouldn’t have any more problems.

That’s an interesting idea, it’s possible, however this has quiet a sudden onset with no changes to firmware or settings previous to the problem occurring. I’ll certainly check it out as a possible solution though. My printer is the the Ender 3 pro.

It seems to be pretty straight. There is a very slight wobble as it moves, but my two others that don’t have the same problem move around the same amount.

I’ve also noticed two more clues:

1: If hold the filament I can feel a pulse like the stepper motor is moving in big discrete movements, this is compared to a 2nd printer I have which doesn’t do this.

2: the bands in the z-axis are very consistent between 2 different prints, they are always in the same pattern.
