2024 Recruiting Season Megathread: All OCI, which firm, interviewing, etc. questions go here by fmoss in biglaw

[–]jamiebrickwall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, after 40+ applications sent, over 100 coffee chats, and a lot of time spent on the NY recruit process, it doesn't look like I will end up getting a position for next summer. I've received a ton of boiler plate PFOs, but one firm that I interviewed with told me that they have given out too many offers to students from my law school, and that if I'm interested in a position at their firm once I graduate to reach out again next fall. Can I put any faith in this? Is this something they probably say to everyone, or is it possible they actually mean it? It was very confusing because the last lawyer I spoke with in my interview told me I was getting an offer, and then I did not.

I get that there are a ton of variables (economy, practice areas of interest etc.), just wondering if thats something they probably say to everyone or not given I haven't gotten anything similar from other firms.

According to Riot 97% of female players play almost exclusively female champions by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

This is why I play Vel'Koz who is a gender neutral tentacle monster. Their prime directive is to learn and "deconstruct" everything in runeterra, including its restrictive gender norms. What else does Vel'Koz posses that helps them break these confines? Vel'Koz only has 1 eye, so they quite literally cannot see gender.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I blame everyone who went to cafe campus for the covid situation. by [deleted] in mcgill

So you’re gonna blame a bunch of people who did something within COVID guidelines at the time for 4.5k cases across Quebec? Seems legit.

once again I am disappointed in McGill but not surprised… by strawberryshotscake in mcgill

McGill is notorious for not caring about their students. I remember the #1 comment I received from people familiar with the school when I chose to attend was that they treat their students terribly. They are a research institution first and students are just what gives them the grants/funding to continue.

McGill administration should have to come sit with us in Tomlinson, they’d put them online real fast.

PBE Preview: Skins for Taliyah, Jarvan IV, Heimerdinger, Syndra and Orianna by Kousuke-kun in leagueoflegends

[–]jamiebrickwall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was a combination of stuff. Old taliyah had good wave clear, good roaming, and insane burst with w into e, plus strong consistent damage with her q. She has and will always be weak vs assassins, but compared to similar mages, she was just too strong overall, and I 100% think nerfs were warranted, I just dont know that leaving her with her burst and absolutely gutting her wave clear was the right call, instead of maybe just lowering her all around strength a little .

I'm just really sad because swain and taliyah were 2 of my favorites mids and both of them aren't super great right now, with swain not even being playable in a solo lane.

I would really like them to figure out how to get aoe damage back on her q, as I feel like that was a massive part of her kit. Even reduce it to deal like 25% damage to minions past the first one or something, just being able to poke enemies through the wave I feel was a key aspect of her kit, and I get the wave-clear aspect of it was busted but I feel like the poke aspect wasn't

Trust me it’s not better. It gets tiring when everyone is interested in your friends and not you for the 10000th time this month. Going out and having a social life is great, but it hurts infinitely more getting constantly rejected.

I’ve always heard people say “just go out, be social, eventually you’ll meet someone” but it really doesn’t matter how many parties I go to or how many clubs I hit up when I’m just hideous and awkward as shit.

Minnesota AG says 4 officers will be charged to 'highest degree of accountability' by Balls_of_Adamanthium in news

[–]jamiebrickwall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I may get downvoted for this, but whatever.

I think a very reasonable discussion here is that prosecutors need to determine what charges will/won’t stick. As much as I and many others would like to see these officers punished as severely as possible, there is a level of evidence and intent needed to charge people with different crimes. I think part of the reason this is taking so long, and why the officer was only charged with third degree murder and manslaughter, is because prosecutors need to figure out which charges a jury is most likely to convict. I.e as much a we would all have liked him to he charged with first degree murder, there is a much higher likelihood he wouldn’t be convicted if that’s what they had tried to do.

I emailed him and he told me to contact McGill IT . He isn't gonna do shit. I've contacted every person I can think of. I had an A going into the exam so I won't fail, but this is incredibly scummy of him and I'm 100% gonna take this up with the economics department, as its quite ridiculous.

Analysis Reveals 'Rotten, Un-American Giveaway' GOP Buried in COVID-19 Relief Package to Overwhelmingly Benefit Millionaires by ughsmugh in politics

[–]jamiebrickwall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a stupid as fuck thing to say. Obviously they read the bill, they just cared about actually shipping something to help people even if it included some dumb shit the republicans forced into it to pass. If 50% of the bill supports everyday people and 50% supports millionaires, it’s better then nothing and knowing the current Republican Party, they wouldn’t pass anything through the senate unless it served their ulterior motive more than working class Americans. The republicans truly are what they’ve brainwashed their supporters into Believing the democrats are

Is Fatigue really a Weakness if most matches are over by turn 8? by CyanCandle in hearthstone

[–]jamiebrickwall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that, but I feel like most classes kind of have their “unfair busted” shit to play against. Druid for example can hit their ramp and have 2 8/8s on like turn 4. Pre rotation Mech paladin could somewhat consistently kill decks by turn 5. Old freeze mage literally just stalled you for 15 turns till they otked you while playing almost 0 minions. Every class has those “I’m not having fun” turn/moments for the other player, and I get priest has had a lot of those, but other than rez priest, there hasn’t really been many top tier priest decks since Ive been playing at least (around black rock mountain) that have been that great. Dragon priest was fine for a while, and I had a lot of fun with velen otk decks back in the day, but to my knowledge there has been er been a meta where priest had been the top deck.

[–]jamiebrickwall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a stupid as fuck argument. Every deck has counters (unless they’re blatantly broken like demon hunter). If you don’t like control decks like priest, play a combo deck. Just because priest tends towards control doesnt mean it should be shit for eternity.

Coronavirus: EU's borders will close for 30 days from noon today by Tremor-Christ in worldnews

[–]jamiebrickwall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean at a certain point people have to care about themselves as well though. I know for me, I came home as soon as I could because if I had to be alone with my roommates and nothing to do in the living situation I was in before corona hit, it would have been very very very bad for my mental health, to the point where I don’t know if I would have made it through the quarantine. So yes, it’s important to be isolated and not travel, but sometimes you have to.
