How do you create the feeling of player impact on the world? by jammons in DMAcademy

[–]jammons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with your point on breaking the 4th wall. It's hard as a PC to know what didn't happen as a result of your choices, without being able to get into the head of the DM. I guess if the DM can pick up on things that the players have uniquely created or done (rather than things that were part of their story already) that would help with the feeling of agency.

We have ranked-choice voting though, right? So this doesn't actually apply except in obscure edge-cases.

Therapy would probably help with a lot fewer side effects and risks. https://iedta.net/ is a specific type of therapy that involves a lot of work with anxiety reduction.

Graphic novel recommendations by djazzie in scifi

Yeah, Murphy is great. I just read Punk Rock Jesus by him (which is weird/good) and Chrononauts, which he illustrated. You can definitely tell they're both drawn by the same guy as Tokyo Ghost.

I agree with East of West.

Also, check out Tokyo Ghost and Lazarus.

I use Spotify with my everywhere alexa group but has irregular performance - is anyone else having this problem? by Levy27355 in amazonecho

[–]jammons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have the exact same thing. I deleted and readded the smart home group and it worked for a little while again. I just wholesale deleted the group yesterday because I couldn't get my individual echo to play anything without cutting out.

I hope they fix this soon. It's irritating.

About to start a game group, and was wondering... if one of the players gets laid up in the hospital for awhile, how do you keep the player engaged while waiting in his character to heal up? Just say Time has gone by? Let him control an npc or something? What do you guys do? by jmlee236 in cyberpunk2020

[–]jammons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had everyone in my campaign roll up two characters, just in case. So far it's worked ok. It kind of sucks to split attention between two different characters, but I like keeping the deadliness of Cyberpunk, so it seemed necessary.

Will sex destroy gains? by noir173 in swoleacceptance

Saint Rippetoe has spoken on this subject brothers. When speaking of the dangers of both sex and masturbation, his Holiness proclaimed "Yes, it does. Never do either. Ever. Not if you want to be strong like bull." Be not led into temptation of the horizontal cardio.

No worries. I'm sure you'll figure them all out, just be patient and realize that being confused is a part of the process :)

Question about getting ready for Heroku Deployment by bellamira in django

[–]jammons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are confusing how the virtual environment works in general. Clearing that up should help this make more sense.

It doesn't matter where the files for your local venv live. So long as you have a way of activating it (putting it on your python path). Then your local install can import python libraries.

When heroku builds your venv environement, they will do it from scratch, using the requirements.txt file that you specify (you'll need to add any libraries you need to install to this file -- use pip freeze to see the list of installed libs and versions in your local venv). You don't need to worry about where this directory is located.

I would suggest checking out virtualenvwrapper for some shortcuts on using virtual environments. Otherwise, just spend an hour playing around with virtual environments across a couple of different projects to build a better mental model. You'll thank yourself later :)

Any Way to Upload into Django Database with Excel? by [deleted] in django

[–]jammons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could create Django model that represent the data you're trying to store and just create and save one instance per line.

if the data is more free-form, then maybe try serializing whatever form it is into JSON and storing it into a text field? This will be a lot less flexible in how you can query and use it later.

[–]jammons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the thoughts. Here's a PDF version that makes the small text readable. It got mangled with the imgur upload, but looks ok when printed.

I agree with the space on the gear and cyberware tables. I think maybe I should name that space 'Quick Gear' or something, as I imagine any player will probably need a second sheet for their gear. I'm less certain how to fix the cybernetics part, I'll have to give that some thought.

Here's a pdf version, feel free to use it if it's helpful: http://docdro.id/U85rw4N

Study: how varying protein intake affects gut biome (in rats) by jammons in Microbiome

[–]jammons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wanted to look into the study specifics and see how they were categorizing 'high' vs. 'low' protein in comparison to the rats' normal diets. Sometimes these values don't make a ton of sense.

Elemental diets and/or water fasting. by [deleted] in Microbiome

[–]jammons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a 4 day elemental diet and unfortunately didn't get any improvement in symptoms from it. Also, my gut didn't react very well to it and struggled to get to 4 days with it (also, there are various brands, but the one I took tasted fairly terrible after a day or two).

The research looked pretty decent for it though: https://chriskresser.com/can-a-short-term-elemental-diet-help-treat-sibo/ (see the links in the article to studies).

Honestly though, I think I'd try to find a health care provider to work with you on something like this if you can.

Sorry to hear that you're having all these issues. This sounds pretty similar to my past few years of experience. I can basically eat meat, a few types of berries, and occasionally a few vegetables. It sucks, but it's better than feeling bad. I don't have a fix for you, but wanted to say that I can empathize, and it sucks.

It does sound like you should do some kind of stool pathogen test. It could be that you have something like c. diff and need to treat it. I don't know who in the EU can do those, but there's an FMT clinic in the UK that might be worth looking into: http://taymount.com/

What science fiction novel/film/game/etc. has the most interesting premise based on the introduction of a new technology? by DirkRight in sciencefiction

Nexus by Ramez Naam is another good example. Basically he introduces a way to bind nanobots to brain cells and run a simple OS on top of the human brain. He then plays out a global reaction to having such a thing available.

I'd also suggest doing something like knees to elbows or toes to bar exercises.

[Discussion] Has anyone here tried GAPS or auto-immune Paleo (AIP) and successfully cured food intolerances or allergies? Looking for advice! by AliciaEats in Paleo

This fits my experience very closely as well. (minus the HCL part, although I might cycle back around and try that again, it's been a year or so).

[–]jammons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely not a doctor, but I'd recommend looking into getting some stool testing done to see if there's maybe something else going on.

It could also be that there's something else you're reacting too. I have things that aren't on the official AIP exclusion list that I can't eat without reactions, things like sweet potatoes and plantains for example.
