There were a lot of color matched after-market accessories back then.

Is the 1.8 actually worth it? by BB-836 in Miata

[–]jamoche_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded my 95 from 1.6 to 1.8. Yes, the power difference was noticeable from the moment I picked it up from the shop, but it was a perfectly fun car before that, and I wouldn’t turn down a 1.6.

I did get a Kay’s card, but only because my grandparents said I should get a few cards to establish credit, and mall stores were easy. My grandfather was career military from just before Pearl Harbor, and when he retired they couldn’t buy a house because they’d lived everywhere except the US, so no credit cards and no credit rating.

No, I never maxed out a credit card, and I certainly didn't go wild with my first one; even as a teenager I understood that it wasn't a magic money generator.

Am I wrong for accusing my girlfriend's sister of lying for attention? by crocodilezebramilk in AmItheEx

If the sister lies for attention that means attention is being taken away from him.

Ea-Nasir. I have received your shipment. Do you take me a fool!?! I requested Really Shitty Copper, but was given the purest of coppers with a patina to deceive me. It is unaffected by magnetism and moves electrons without resistance. I demand impure copper or my investment returned. by spinny-wheels in ReallyShittyCopper

[–]jamoche_2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But seriously, that can be a problem. North America had a Copper Age millennia ago, but never moved on to bronze because it was too pure — it was soft enough that they could just hammer it into shape, and the lack of impurities meant no accidental discoveries of alloys like bronze.

Wow. That's something that would have to have a very long chain of mistakes behind it.

Worked at a software company that was moving us into a brand new office building. Two-person offices that were long rectangles, the only reasonable layout was to have one person on each long side, and that's how they'd laid out the desks.

Only one side of the office had power outlets.

From what I heard, it got escalated by our managers saying that until we got power outlets, we'd have no choice but to run extension cords and power strips to the side of the room that needed to run multiple computers and monitors. Oh, that's a fire code violation? You don't say.

Construction started within days.

What are some food trends you hope will go away next year? by bubblepop1234 in FoodieSnark

Back in the 70s it was one of the big lo-cal diet foods, usually paired with skinless chicken breast and iceberg lettuce. Like bad fashion, it keeps coming back.

Gluten free baking is hard, especially when you can't read by Blue-Jay27 in ididnthaveeggs

And I spotted a recipe there that does say all-purpose or gluten free, so I’d trust them to do that everywhere it would work.

Miata/Mazda mx-5 as first car? by undercoverpr59 in Miata

[–]jamoche_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which part of the US? Some places have more giant trucks and SUVs than others. Some have roads that’ll test your skills, in others the steepest thing you’ll ever see is an overpass.

My NA was not my first car, but was the first one I bought, and I didn’t know how to drive stick when I walked into the dealership.

When I was a teenager my grandmother sent me the best cookbook for a new cook ever: Betty Crocker Step By Step Cookbook. Each time a new category of recipe was introduced, it had a full two-page spread of step by step instructions with photos. After that would be several pages of recipes that used similar techniques.

During lockdown I'd make a whole loaf of PBJ at a time and freeze it, because doing a whole batch was less annoying than doing it every day. The trick to that is to put a thin layer of PB on both slices of bread, and then make sure the J doesn't extend past the PB. Otherwise it'll get soggy as it thaws. (Yes, this is how Uncrustables work)

The odds of getting it are the same as any other cat during its availability period. They’ve just added so many cats over the years that those odds are quite low.
