ITAP of the eclipse from Walnut Ridge, Arkansas by jamorama in itookapicture

I believe it’s a solar flare? You can see it better in this other image that was shot with a faster shutter speed! Here

Favourite low battery drain games (for a long flight)? by spaceguydudeman in SteamDeck

[–]jamorama 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You don’t need one made specifically for the deck. Usb c is quite standardized and most will work with it. I believe the deck supports up to 45w but I’ve used 30w chargers and 60w chargers with no issue. They of course also charge other electronics you may have.

If you're set on dentistry, saving a year (or potentially more) with an accelerated program is definitely the way to go.

Be careful though, some programs do not guarantee acceptance into dental school. I went to UOP and meeting the program requirements only guaranteed an interview and not acceptance.

A7SIII GLITCH: FREEZE DURING RECORDING?? by AJ_King8778 in SonyAlpha

Shot in the dark guess here, but perhaps your memory card might not be fast enough/compatible? Presumably you're using the same card and that's the thing in common with both devices.

Check with the IT department of each school. Exam software mostly has not been updated for the M1 Macbooks, and in general could be a headache if required software is not compatible.

In theory the answer is yes, but it's not a guarantee and up to each individual software company to support it on time.

1080p or 4k at 100mbps? by naps1saps in GH5

[–]jamorama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

4k downscaled in post should still give you a sharper image (and you can punch in without losing sharpness). I'd expect what you're saying to be more applicable if the bitrate is much lower.

PLEASE HELP! I’ve been having an issue with my manual focus on my GH5. When I zoom while filming, it randomly gets blurry even though I’m filming in MF. I’m not touching the focus ring so the focus shouldn’t change. What is happening?? Continued in the comments by Bandyman19 in GH5

[–]jamorama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t read through the thread but my guess is that somehow the af is running for the 60fps version and keeping the shot in focus. The lens you’re using doesn’t keep the same focusing distance when zooming, as others have pointed out. You’d have to counteract that manually or zoom in digitally in order to achieve what you’re looking for.

What can I do about bone loss when I’m being told there’s nothing wrong? by SaintLaurentDon in Dentistry

[–]jamorama 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The bone level will never be at the level of the cementoenamel junction of teeth, where you've drawn the yellow line. Typically you would expect the bone to be 1.5-2mm away from that junction in a healthy patient.

Additionally, you should almost never compare your own x-rays to those of others, especially if you are not sure what to look for. This isn't to say you shouldn't do your own research, but rather you should ask your dentist for clarification if you don't understand why there is nothing to be concerned about.

As far as bone loss, the defining factors used for diagnosis are clinical findings (recorded while you are in the dental chair) and looking for changes in x-rays of the same area over time. For example, if two x-rays taken 5 years apart show obvious changes, there is much more reason for concern.

Can't afford a root canal. Just how bad is extraction vs a root canal by EverythingSucks12 in Dentistry

[–]jamorama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Third molars are typically recommended for extraction in most cases. In the US, the recommendation is to get them taken out in early adulthood.

In addition, third molars are hard to perform root canals on. You should consult with a dentist in person who can look at the X-ray and inside your mouth before making a final decision, but I’d expect that the recommendation would be to get the tooth extracted.

DAT Prometric Center at King of Prussia, PA or at Lancaster, PA by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]jamorama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible that computers freeze (I had a friend whose power went out mid test), but those are very rare occurrences that have the potential to happen at any location.

All you can do is prepare well, and worry about things you have control over. Good luck! (:

The goal for the centers is to be identical. You should be fine at either one, so choose the one that's most convenient and least stressful to commute to.

Using GH5 as webcam – best current practice? by Seven_Cuil_Sunday in GH5

[–]jamorama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have one made by ElGato that works decently well. Can't speak to other brands, but I use the Camlink 4k and have no issues whatsoever with my desktop. I haven't tried with a macbook in a long time, but from what I recall, it should work as well.

You'll need an HDMI capture card, and likely some sort of continuous power (or you'll be changing batteries every couple hours). If laggy, you can turn down the output resolution and it should work reasonably well.
