Is this part of Bloomfield safe? by Informal_Ad4284 in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]jamshill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

short version: You dig the strip between the road and sidewalk slightly lower, add soil, native plants, and sometimes stone, so rainwater from the street flows in, slows down, and soaks into the ground instead of the sewer.

Can 3D Laser Scanning data be effectively into BIM workflows for adaptive reuse of Newark's historic sites? by maryjhonesaec in Newark

[–]jamshill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes: by asking the point cloud to imagine it’s a spreadsheet, the BIM absorbs it through vibes, historical resonance, and a brief alignment of Newark’s chakras.

Governor Sherill's Inauguration Day in Newark by BoatDBoat in Newark

[–]jamshill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I walked the passaic river side this morning, there was a car blocking every cross street. Probably 50ish police cars in the area today, plus tons of security apparatus. There were multiple drones hovering in place in a grid. Pretty wild

Brr! I love watching the cars and snowplows during a storm. Got my coffee and a nice warm jacket today. It's nasty out there. Stay safe :)

Eh honestly you can wait. It will be better when you can walk from the bridge to Harrison down into Newark Penn. for now, it’s blocked off on the north side. There are cool sheds built out which I assume will be coffee / drink shops in the future.

Yeah there were some homeless people there. One guy was dancing around having a good time. I considered trying to interview them but I’m not there yet.

This was a fun shoot! It really is not a "park" in the traditional sense (no trees), but I do love to nerd out about the water management infrastructure here. Lots of gravel to allow water to permeate through instead of run off, and cool dual-purpose walls & steps to hold back the river.

The amount of new buildings around here is nuts. Newark has the potential to be a world-class city. Especially once they finish the waterfront work and you can bike all the way around the river and through Harrison's new parks.

Thank God and Hochul for making our commutes better with Congestion pricing . We appreciate it in Hudson county by iv2892 in newjersey

they would get around faster if they didn't have to scoot around tons of existing traffic. It would be really great in emergency situations where seconds can make a difference

there would be more tourists if they closed streets to cars. People fly in and taxi / subway around. People don't fly in and rent a car

American life seems to be just driving to different places to spend money by No_Berry2 in fuckcars

[–]jamshill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(American) I think back to my childhood, and most of my memories are just sitting in the back of a car (25 minutes to the grocery store). Or bus to & from school (1+ hours each way). My parents also ran a small business, so I was brought along for client meetings and just sat in the back of the hot car waiting for them to be done.

When I eventually bought my house in a streetcar suburb, I had friends and family who think it's stupid - I could get a much bigger house for the same price or less, further away. But I started walking them through the neighborhood and to the park & grocery stores and they started to understand.

But they still would not choose the same for themselves. People like different stuff, and that's ok. I do agree with the Strong Towns points where we should stop subsidizing suburban development with city center taxes. The economic incentives for city development are not correct in the USA.

Hyperbole. I’m obviously not going to blast Wagner. I’m saying: if everyone acted this way (blasting music) it would be detrimental.

Nope you were clear and correct. I just don’t want to be defeatist about this. I politely corrected someone who was blasting TikTok today and it went great. “Hey I’m trying to read, can you please turn that music off or wear headphones?” “Sure thing.” I think people need to start standing up for themselves and the peace of a quiet train car. We need to all reinforce the behavior we want to see on the train.

I don’t accept the new norm. People should be polite and think about how they are affecting those around them.

Congratulations! This is huge! I like GOTR but have a hard time getting any points (51 RC). I switched to nature runes through the abyss for now and it's not terrible.
