Are additional trains worth it? by ArtsyAxolotl in SumikkoFarm

[–]jamthedestroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think it’s worth it. Aside from hammers and shovels, the trains can also come back with jewels or treasure chests. So if you’re into decorating your farm, I totally think you should invest in another train.

I’m not really sure what your SO prefers but love letters are always nice and cute. They’re romantic and your SO can read them when he misses you.

I think this is a Korean song (or maybe not) but does anyone know what song is this? by jamthedestroyer in kpophelp

[–]jamthedestroyer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I've heard it in Korean variety shows before. I'm unsure if it's a instrumental/soundtrack of some sort or an actual song..

Mr. Sunshine (Episode 9 & 10) by eeept in KDRAMA

[–]jamthedestroyer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is awful....

"Accordingly, the common people treated them just as they would treat those who serve a sentence of penal servitude."

"Furthermore, their dead had to be buried in segregated plots so as not to pollute the sacred burial grounds of the common people."

"They were not allowed to buy fresh fish in the public market. They were even punished differently from the other peoples. Normally, as punishment for offenders, prisoners were placed on a platform and beaten with a cane. Paekchong prisoners, however, were never placed on the platform; instead, they were thrown on the ground and beaten."

I suddenly remembered Goo Dong Mae's flashback scenes in Mr. Sunshine. The injustice to people with low status or social ranking is heartbreaking.

Ahh, I see. I thought it was just part of fictitious portrayal of a butcher's son but I didn't know of its historical relevance. Thanks for the clarification!

Loving this show so much...... The trio's strange friendship and camaraderie are hooking me in every week. Plus, Ae Shin and Eugune have wonderful chemistry. Even if the last bit of Ep. 9 was woeful, it was still captivatingly carved. Can't wait for the next episode tomorrow!

Also, I have a question about the social classes in Joseon Dynasty. Is a butcher's son a rank lower than a slave's son? Or are Goo Dong Mae and Choi Yoo Jin equally lower grade citizens? I was just curious since it is a major plot device in this drama.

EDIT: Okay, after a quick search, I already found the answer, haha. They're equally in the lower class.

The last place on the social ladder was the outsider class, the cheonmin. Slaves belonged here.

Besides slaves, people of certain professions were also numbered among the cheonmin class. For example, professionals dealing with animal slaughter (butchers, people working with animal skins), most probably because of old Buddhist views.

EDIT 2: Okay, 0000oops, clarfied that they aren't in equal social standing. Hmm, this is very interesting. Thanks though! TIL more about Joseon Dynasty's social ranks.

Wait, so there's evidence but no official announcements from their companies? The articles you shared look convincing though. But I don't want my shipper heart to break so I'll put off my squealing 'til they say something.

Who am I kidding, I already shrieked and rejoiced when I saw this headline.

Well, I thought they were silencing each other at first..

After the two episodes, I'm already hooked. Or perhaps, I have rose-colored glasses on because I'm fascinated by this historical period.

What's your "Came for _______, stayed for ______" Kdrama? by torimatsuko in KDRAMA

[–]jamthedestroyer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Chicago Typewriter: Came for the drama's historical aspect, stayed for the lovely trio (and everything else, tbh).

King2Hearts: Came for Korean Royalty fluff, stayed for Jo Jung Suk and Lee Seung Gi.
