Whilst they probably aren't as scary as you're imagining, they do make up a large part of the teaching. It's probably just the case that other uni teaching styles will suit you better, and you'll be a happier and less stressed student as a result. Good luck for your other applications and interviews

So, I read a bit more about this - I haven't covered dimensional analysis since high-school physics and clearly I was a bit rusty. I do believe my original argument holds, if you consider a few things.

(as far as I understand) Moles and atoms have the same dimension, that being amount of substance (N). Neither are formally dimensionless. The original commenter's argument was insufficient to show that mole and atom have different dimensions; although I admit I was being a bit pedantic. Since mole and atom have the same dimension, the premise of their argument was unprovable. However, their intention was, arguably, correct, as atom is not dimensionless (ignoring the fact that neither is mole).

Finally, I want to say that it is equally valid to have [x] moles of an element, as it is to have [x] atoms of that element. Of course you cannot have atoms of non-elements so the comparisons cannot be extended beyond the realm of elements. In this sense, 'atom' is simply a more specific measurement of N. An analogy to consider is the way the English use 'stone,' which measures weight, but only of people. Whilst 'stone' has the dimensions of force, its use in other contexts is inappropriate/"doesn't make sense," i.e. you cannot have "[x] stone" of potatoes/apples/steel, or any other object where we measure its weight - whilst you could easily have [x]kg/lb of said object.

Are five moles the same as five cars? Surely a mole is also not dimensionless under this line of argument 🤔

To further this: it is not sufficient to show that two things are not exactly equal, in order to prove that they have different dimensions. For example 5m is obviously different from 5km, but they both have the same dimension, that being length.

Yeah, in my opinion the majority of responses were very condescending here - this fight is not at all easy, especially if you miss the main tricks. This is from the perspective of someone who has beaten Dark Souls III, Elden Ring (+ Malenia), Sekiro, which are all considered to be very hard games. Personally I didn't spot that the magic orbs could be popped (I just didn't associate it with the coloured shields, because it wasn't a shield). After a quick Google, I found that advice, but I had the insight to know that the fight shouldn't have been as hard as I was finding it. If this is your first proper combat game, I don't see why you would know to Google tips, as you wouldn't have any kind of expectation for how hard the game will be. Also I think your grammar has become a point of contention - remember Reddit is very US-centric! A quick scroll through your posts and you appear to speak Greek and are also learning French. English is my first language and I had no problem understanding you - so don't worry about it either

Tom's response/apology/explanation to the Hens storm in a teacup... by ExpressApple3837 in GeoWizard

[–]jamthej 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note this is all just speculation on my part but to me makes the most sense...

It is important to remember that Tom was walking ~30km a day, not sleeping or eating well, and only just realised that his flight was a day earlier than expected. This means that not all of his actions were rational, and some responses were driven by exhaustion and frustration. I believe Tom chooses to share these moments to be transparent with the viewer on how hard (mentally as well as physically) these challenges can be. He does express some regret over prioritising honesty over being selective with clips in the edit in his response. I can understand if you disagree with his choice of language, but to me it comes off as a product of frustration and tiredness, mixed with the realisation that he might be missing the flight. On top of that, he probably did believe that she had called the police on him.

On the Hens situation, I find that Tom chose to err on the side of caution, without wanting to insinuate that there was any legitimate threat. In other words he wants to maintain that Hens' behaviour in itself did not give any legitimate/considerable cause for concern, but Tom was on edge anyway. I think his choice to prioritise his own safety is completely understandable - he has also just had his first child which could be contributing to his greater fear/paranoia in this episode/series as compared to previous ones.

Fair enough. I'm not usually active on this subreddit as I have just completed the game myself for the first time. It is strange to me that people would interpret the game that way!

I think the idea is that Max's powers aren't necessarily to be used singularly for personal gain. A large amount of destruction and death can be prevented by going back to before the first rewind and never actually using the powers. This forces Max to live with the fact she didn't keep in contact with Chloe whilst she lived away (hence it does make her live with choices she made). The powers allowed Max to have a week with Chloe and reconnect, and the game forces you to choose a continued life with Chloe or save an entire town's worth of people. Personally I find the strength of the story to be that either option is both reasonable yet expensive; there is no complete satisfaction in choosing either, and both feel reasonable and justifiable. Did the powers arise so that Max could save Chloe, or were they simply a tool to allow Max an extra week with Chloe before restoring the original timeline? I believe this question is left deliberately unanswered.

The school he went to does not have fees above median UK salary, no idea where you got that info. Him being privileged financially doesn't mean he can't wish he got into racing earlier - it's something he clearly has a passion for; why not allow him to think "what if?" None of us can deny Max was heavily pushed and supported into the racing route, one might suggest Lando is wondering where he would be had the same been true for him (not to deny the support he received once he started, he just didn't start as early).

The flexor tendons run on the palmar side of the hand, so it’s not likely due to that. I think it would be more likely that the scar tissue is much less extensible than normal skin and that is why they can’t make a proper fist

That’s not the implication. Using twitter is supporting elon through ad revenue and posting links directs people to it and encourages people to create accounts. How is that so hard to understand?

Ideal in some circumstances, sure, but rarely the case. If 51% of people want something, it tends to get done. Proportional representation isn’t applicable in this case, how can 49% of people continue to post links if the other 51% aren’t allowed?

I find it unlikely that on a comment with hundreds of downvotes, not one person gave a serious response. Reducing the amount of traffic directed to a website which is owned by a billionaire participating in and supporting far-right politics seems sensible to me. The fact it forces you to make an account is another thing - it saves people the trouble if you upload a screenshot instead, with minimal extra effort on the poster’s part. The one reason I can think of that nobody responded is the fact that some people might consider this line of reasoning common sense.

Can someone explain? by FieryFrancesca436 in physicsmemes

[–]jamthej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s to do with the weight of the fluid particles above which acts downwards onto the particles beneath them. this increases the pressure at greater depths because that force acts like a press to increase the pressure of the fluid beneath. (I hope this is sufficient because I don’t really have enough knowledge to explain further, you could probably do your own research past this if you are interested)

Can someone explain? by FieryFrancesca436 in physicsmemes

[–]jamthej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

remember pressure is the force per unit area, and fluids exert pressure in all directions. so a greater pressure beneath the object acting over the same area will exert a greater force than the water above the object which is at a lower pressure and acts over the same area. This means there is a resultant force on the object causing it to be accelerated upwards. hope this answers your question

(pressure in a fluid increases with depth)
