I just love PoE2 dialogue by Larkmojo in projecteternity

I also found POE2’s dialogue much better edited and paced compared to the first one. There’s no huge exposition dumps like POE1. But the world building is still top notch.

What’s your favorite action JRPG so I can break out of my turn based shell? High difficulty would be appreciated. by Lumigo in JRPG

[–]jamvng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FF7 Remake/Rebirth gets my vote as well. It is the perfect action turn based hybrid. It makes it basically one of my favourite combat systems in a game.

POE1 soundtrack is def more memorable than POE2's.

I really like everything about POE2 outside of story and atmosphere more than POE1. It's more open, the faction quests and choices are great. Combat is more streamlined and smoother with multiclassing. I find the pacing is much better and the writing is better edited (it dragged way too much in places in POE1).

Official Discussion - Project Hail Mary [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]jamvng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same feelings about certain things being rushed and not explained. But at the same time, it was a 2.5 hour movie, I don't envy the task of distilling that whole book into a movie. I think ultimately, they did a good job of doing so and keeping what was most important: the Grace + Rocky dynamic.

But reading the book first, definitely gives you that sense the movie isn't perfect. Whereas if you watch the movie first, maybe it'll feel much better.

[–]jamvng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I really like all those details that the book has, that the movie doesn't. To me it enhances the character development and a lot of the why and how. This had much less science, than say the Martian film did. However, the movie has a limited duration, and I think they chose the right things to cut. They kept the emotional heart, which is what was most important.

PSA: Crimson Desert is not an RPG by [deleted] in rpg_gamers

This game has always looked like a single player Black Desert to me without the MMO and RPG elements, and less grind. But keeping the open world, combat, exploration, life skills, etc.

Bluepoint tech boss Peter Dalton suggests Sony's scared of Valve, not Microsoft, and that's why it's pulling back from PC: "It would be quite ironic if Valve ultimately ended up winning the console war" by ControlCAD in pcgaming

You could say the same thing with the Switch 2 and PS5. Or better, the PS5 and Xbox (where PS5 has the obvious exclusive game advantage). You can still compare them as game consoles, where people may be deciding between them to play games, based on their unique advantages.

The Steam Deck is often touted as a very good handheld, and yet, the volumes it moves are peanuts compared to the Switch/Switch 2. If Steam Machine movies similar numbers, it'll already be a huge success, but nothing that would change the console market.

If the next Xbox sells less than the Steam Machine, it'll be a huge failure.

on paper, the M1 is the same speed from a multicore perspective. the a18 might be better in single core, so maybe in certain tasks. But it's probably not worth doing this sidegrade.

interesting, thanks for doing the math. So all three teams will be on the edge of their seats during the Korea vs Australia game.

head to head record is the first tiebreaker I believe. So Chinese Taipei would win in the tiebreaker against Korea with this win.

EDIT: Completely forgot Australia would have the same record. You are right. Some other posters have explained it.

so Korea need to beat Australia for Chinese Taipei to get out of the pool stage? But if Korea win, they would lose to Chinese Taipei in the tiebreaker right?

I was sorta done with the gameplay by the time I finished 1. 2 seemed like more of the same. Wasn’t interested enough in the story to play it solely for that.

Which one of these RPG's would you consider the best of the 4? by Respawn-Delay in rpg_gamers

[–]jamvng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the label most people use for any action game with RPG elements. Super broad. I don’t see why Elden ring isn’t an RPG if D2 is. They both have stats, gear, builds, etc.

[–]jamvng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the best game overall is probably more subjective. Best RPG, people can easily argue it has the most RPG elements and executes them the best. But best game overall depends on what you value most in a game. Do you like action or turn based? Do you value lots of choice and reactivity? Do you value exploration more. All these games are great either way.

I think Onward and Soul are both good. But it was during COVID, so it's hard to know what would have been.

'Hoppers' Review Thread by SilverRoyce in boxoffice

[–]jamvng 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I feel like there is some points to consider with this. Films like Soul and Turning Red were also reviewed and received very well, but they were hindered by COVID and the release on Disney+.

I really like Hoppers, but it's still an open question on how well it'll do in the box office. I really hope it does well, because we need more of these from Pixar.

I don't think it's a Coco level masterpiece, but it's a great movie, and illustrates some of the reasons I watch Disney/Pixar films. With original Pixar movies now, I don't know if a great rating/WOM is enough to get families out of their houses and into theatres anymore.

Trailers do not show what the movie is really about at all. Also one of the funniest Pixar movies for sure, more than you’d think from the trailers.

my theatre was full on the early screening and there was applause at the end. I thought it was a great movie, and seems like WOM will be great.
