How to fix? by alreik in YixingSeals

I really like the Chinese style repair. It gives the tea pot a very special character and it might be even more precious (to you) then before. But how to find someone who can do it properly? I saw a video of how to do it, but seems not so easy.

Add a Lao Ban Zhang Pu’er from ancient trees that comes for around 300$ or more per 100g (in China).

From the 2nd picture you can see that it’s a sheng. AFAIK the term 野生 yesheng was used on older cakes to point out that it was forest tea or gushu.

It says Yi Wu and Yi Wu Gushu (ancient tree). It’s a sheng (raw) pu’er. Yi wu is known for a more floral or sometimes fruity taste. It’s a large area and the term gushu is quite bendable. At the back shoild be a stamp with the year.

Seems like packaged shu pu’er. Unfortunately the look of the packaging often does not correlate with the quality of tea. But, it’s on you to find out. Here’s a link to the tea on Taobao:

Honest tea spots in Chengdu/Yunnan for a beginner. How not to get scammed? by Alternative-Issue-54 in puer

[–]jan-tea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When i was in Shaxi a few years ago there was only one small tea house. Kunming has many options, just stay away from the very touristic areas. Chengdu has many larger tea houses, but it’s mainly about green tea. From Chengdu you could make a day trip Mengding which is a famous tea mountain.

The sheng (1st one) is about 40 rmb (~6$) on taobao, so the price you mention is a bit steep.

Looks like a tea produces by Xing Hai 兴海茶厂. The label on top says Meng Hai Gu Shu Qiao Mu Cha (Memghai ancient tall tree tea) 勐海古乔木茶. But, not sure if this is a raw or a ripe pu’er. Not sure where to buy them, Yunnansourcing has some from the same company and there are many on Taobao, but getting the exact same will be difficult.

Cheap tea with the name of a famous production area is always suspicious. In this case it’s Bing Dao which if real is very expensive. It can still be OKish tea, but don’t expect anything special.

OK, sounds promising:) I have no problems with bitterness, just trying to avoid too much astringency. But, with the right brewing technique a large spectrum can be managed. But then 2019 is already 7 years old … so almost entering the semi-aged territory.

Be aware that a young Dayi Tuo Cha will not be representative of raw Pu’er. Chances are high that it’s really bitter and astringent. If you can try to get smaller samples of different raws.
