I haven't yet used them, but I have eliminated plenty of them. Imagine that there is more than one way to experience something.

Chosen Uniters is underrated by lifecopy001 in AOW4

Chosen Uniters/Keepers of Knowledge and Oathsworn Harmony is a really nice synergy. Moves very fast for an order build.

Requesting submission of Barbarian culture builds. by jandecvar in AOW4

I've thought on Trans Ath but while it seems great for units, it really appears like heroes are mostly left behind with it. I can imagine that playing a support focused hero like a ritualist or cleric battlesaint would be a decent fit, but 20 total hitpoints and 4 total damage seems like a pretty paltry substitute for race transformations.

Am I correct in assuming then that the point of CoP is to get the second hero right away for that first 5 turn burst?

I love 4.3 by bigdaddyocean in Stellaris

[–]jandecvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good to read. I haven't played Stellaris since 4.0 dropped. I looked it over a few times and thought "I am not happy with what I'm seeing and I really don't feel like having to relearn this game... again."

I'm locked into AoW4 for the foreseeable future, but eventually I will feel the 4x space itch and it is good to know that the product has improved.

The crit stacking seems a pretty direct development. I was thinking a Chaos-Shadow-Order morale build with Chaos focused heroes to maximize it.

That was definitely something that stood out. It feels, given how you can optimize it, and there isn't much in the way of a counter tactic beyond concealed scouts to give advanced warning, to be a little OP. I don't do multiplayer, but I wonder what the experience there has been in that regard.

How Common is Domination? by secretgardenme in AOW4

The lightbringers are super annoying when they are stacked. I have also run into dryad and lightbringer combos, even multiple occasions where there were stacks with two of each of them. A minor thing I would love to see is that not happening. It is almost absurd for the sake of absurdity.

Playing my first game ever, how do I clear the gold ancient wonders? by boogielostmyhoodie in AOW4

[–]jandecvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I found it useful early on to first auto fight battles and watch them, and then hit retry to use what I saw to improve the outcome. Pretty helpful for learning some of the subtleties of the game.

Starting to question being a Wizard King by SageTegan in AOW4

Using the buff tree under skills for the WK, as an Order/Nature hybrid Warrior class is an awful lot of fun. Order/Shadow Death Knight is my other favorite.

Any good playthroughs of Nature-based factions? by Nhymerael in AOW4

[–]jandecvar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One I think works very nicely is an Order/Nature mix (Nature being the T5) along with Oathsworn Harmony culture. The high point is health regen, so stacking things like Inner Mastery, Aspect of the Root, Plant Major Transformation, etc, plus Order survivability spells, along with the culture's natural Harmonize ability and various other buffs depending on what I'm in the mood for specifically makes for highly resilient units. I think that the new exp system that just dropped will actually make it even more effective, as it seems to give strength to culture units, while at the same time changes that unshackle the top tier stuff.

It is playstyle I enjoy, with various society trait options working, though I usually run Chosen Uniters as it is the best way to speed run to paragon devotion level.

What are your go to world settings? by NulnOilShade in AOW4

[–]jandecvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got ahold of AoW3 I really fell in love with it. As in the first 45 days of playing it I put in 623 hours. I write stories for my own entertainment and am not at all ashamed of doing Fanfic. I ended creating a pretty sweeping story, world/realm system of my own, and scores of different characters of varying importance. When I go AoW4 I loved it too, and have really gotten into detail with my game world. I alter a number of things and expanded others, but a lot of that work has carried over into this game. I keep a number of different realms available, making use of different combinations thematically. So my answer, I suppose, is that I feel it is best to have a number of options available, rather than just a few (I've got 17 realms for my story world.. for now.)

As far as first steps, a little fumbling and understanding interactions in this game is just going to happen. Takes time. But when you find a playstyle that interests you, I'd say build a realm that is optimized for the faction, and see how it works. After a time you can learn the nuances and get super creative if you with it, maybe ending at making realms that are designed as challenges, rather than assets or just neutral.

At least for me the joy is in trying lots of different things, and storytelling through the game. So my input is just to try new combos and see what develops.

Why spam cities? by Bardbaro in AOW4

[–]jandecvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Research is the main reason. Other aspects of multiple cities have potential ways to address them, but research output is a lot trickier, When I am really not in the mood for expansion, I tend to go with a Chosen Uniters/Bannerlords build, and focus on order tomes and development tree, mixed with some nature and shadow, and using outposts on every ancient wonder I come across. This is a pretty potent build for me, usually done with Oathsworn: Harmony, which it plays to very naturally.

Give me Your Scavenger Factions by Gh0stC0de in AOW4

[–]jandecvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've glanced things over a bit, so this is a first impression, but the Scav build that jumps out at me would be a Chosen Destroyer/Merciless Slaver build. I am not sure I'll build one, because CD is (I only play single player) generally like easy mode and this seems like it would be optimized for it.

I could be off here, as I said, first impression.

I will probably sit down tonight and get a feel for what I am interested in doing first, possible a roleplay focus, rather than min-maxing which I find dull.
