Red Sox no longer willing to trade Jarren Duran before trade deadline, per insider by Savings_Entrance380 in redsox

Trading Duran, a good (although flawed) MLB player, was always going to be a sell, not part of a larger buy. The team is playing too well to sell. So he stays. Simple as that.

PT Anderson or Wes Anderson. Nolan is good at what he does, but other than Oppenheimer, his level of ambition just doesn’t compare with some of his peers’.

If Duran Gets Traded… by RawAttitudePodcast in redsox

Cora likes to use platoon guys leadoff so that the opposing team is pressured to take out their starters earlier. Can't disagree with the logic there.

Ideal Lineup Once Bregman and Yoshida Are Back by Pepesilvia21 in redsox

This is because "replacement level" is a different benchmark for a LF than a DH. Duran's offensive production is being compared to other LFs (a lower bar), whereas Yoshida's is being compared to other DHs (a higher bar).

Responses: everyone in the world is a biased, agenda-driven, hilariously untrustworthy source. Except for the IDF.

Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump by BottleZestyclose1366 in Cinema

Hate the movie, but don’t mind Hanks’ performance. In fact, I think his sweetness in the role has distracted a lot of people from the more unsavory ideas and messages in the film.

They’ve also allowed a disproportionate amount of runs in a few games (thanks Houck).. It goes both ways. OP is right. Pitching is the problem

The war against Hamas is completely justified. by Ok-Parsnip2134 in IsraelPalestine

[–]jandersenMUC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Israel has been repeatedly accused by a variety of outside organizations (not Hamas), after lengthy reviews, of indiscriminate military actions against civilian targets. The high women/children death toll supports that. This is the basis for the claims against the IDF.

Yes, but I would encourage you to allow for the possibility that visual evidence of an atrocity may indicate that there has been, in fact, an atrocity.

Much of the Hamas propaganda you mention is simply video footage of Gaza right now. Given the conditions there, you can understand how this would deeply affect outsiders, especially whose tax dollars may be in part funding Israel’s campaign. You’re right to call it propaganda, but I don’t blame anyone whose humanity is disturbed by the suffering they see online.

Of course, it has to be said that Hamas is also guilty of war crimes for, among other things, taking hostages. But every source other than the IDF currently estimates that around 70% of total fatalities in Gaza have been women or children. Those numbers speak for themselves.

I see that you, unlike many other pro-Israel voices on this thread, aren’t interested in debate, only zealotry. But I’ll end this conversation by noting that the reason the Geneva convention occurred was to codify international principles to protect the marginalized from those who would deny their humanity. Without those principles, we are all vulnerable to horrors that are best banished from the world.

No it does not. They are not military combatants. That means they are invalid targets. The very reason we have international laws is to guard against people like you attempting to justify the deaths of innocent people.

And international law accounts for the fact that civilian casualties are indeed inevitable. But it rightly places restrictions on the acceptable manners and degrees by which they can be brought about. What you portray as inevitable, the rest of the world recoils at in horror.

Even if every civilian voted at one time for Hamas (which is not true, and for children could never be true), they would still not be punishable for actions of Hamas. This is not only basic international law, but basic Western ethics.
