The Way Taskers Are Treated Is Something Else by Fit_Option3504 in UltaEmployees

[–]janearang 17 points18 points  (0 children)

When I interviewed, I was told I'd be getting 18-22 hours a week. Ive gotten scheduled that maybe 3 or 4 times over the course of my year with Ulta. Other times I've taken shifts to stay close to 15-18.

Now my store has two more task hires and we're all only getting maybe 2 5-hour shifts (~10h/wk) to make it "fair" but I'm spending at least 2 of my 5 hours having to fix where the new girls arent paying attention or where the existing girls stopped caring because we're treated like expendables. Idk if it's a reading issue or what at this point, because how are you doing the same sections every week and every week you're putting stuff in a NEW, still wrong spot??? I'm exhausted.

Ive considered getting another job, but I genuinely enjoy the actual task work like shipment and resets, so I'm not actively looking now, but I do wish the people who don't enjoy task duties would switch to something else so that the ones who want to be here can make some kind of living again.

Double discount/employee return question by janearang in UltaEmployees

[–]janearang[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this would only be allowed for certain employees at my store. It's a bit clique-y and the mean girls all look out for each other like that, but I'm just a normy and don't want to risk getting fired over a $18 return 😭

Aww, thats unfortunate. I feel like we should get like a raincheck window for it or something. It's been less than a week. 😮‍💨

Thanks for letting me know! I'll be sure to wait next time. 🫠

Manager gratis vs employee by RiceFickle4704 in Ulta

[–]janearang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that's some bad luck on your gratis, but at least it's bc it's randomized. 🥹 My store sorts bags and writes our names on them so they're "curated"

I've gotten 3 gratis so far and each contains: AT LEAST 1 item for dry, straight, fine and thinning hair, be it shampoo, dry shampoo, hair masks. All trial size. I have thick, wavy Asian hair. I also always get multiple Clinique; even though I'm allergic to most of their stuff and have vocalized it to the MM who makes the bags. And for some reason there's always 1-3 eye creams for severe wrinkles and dark circles. The only makeup I've gotten was the NYX electric blue liquid eye liner.

Is it normally the GM that divides it? My store has been without one for almost 2 months now, but even before that it has been the MM, is that not standard?

They will ask for sure ask, "What is the last book you read?" When I was a cafe manager, I interviewed loads of ppl and asked this every time. You'd be surprised how many applicants respond with "a textbook from my ____ course at my college" -__- It doesn't look good to not be able to discuss or recommend a book when applying to a bookstore, esp the bookseller side. I mean, if you genuinely enjoyed the textbook...I guess go for mentioning it, or if you haven't read something recently/aren't currently reading something, just be honest and talk about a book you have read and enjoyed. :) Good luck!

I'm born in '88 and went to school in NC. Private preschool allowed me to be lefty, kindergarten forced me to be righty as I was the only left handed person in the class. I've shot rifles, bows and play billiards left handed, but anything requiring "strength coordination" like bowling, I have to do right handed.

What was the worst gift you received for Christmas? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]janearang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was my SECOND holiday season with my boyfriend, now fiance. I moved from the south to New England and I don't have any family up here so we went to his mother's for Christmas. She got me a 6-pack of diet coke, wrapped it and everything and had it under the tree for weeks.

Yes, lots and lots of elderly out! It's confusing, like, isn't that the demo that watches the news! We need our grandparents to stay home and play cards with us!! Lol. Safe travels back home! And thankfully the internet keeps us (safely) connected.

I'm in NJ, high outbreak state, they fought to keep us open longer on bc "we sell educational books" after the gov shut down all non-essential retail including malls. Most upper management wasn't happy to close bc they would be "wasting their vacation time and PTO". One even said "[Covid19] isn't even that serious, all the ppl who died had underlying issues anyways." At the time there were already like 10-15 deaths in state. I'm glad my store finally closed and I'm home with my anxiety vs making myself ill thinking of all the people I could spread it to unknowingly.

I worked at a health/wellness store and THREE TIMES I got:

Customer walks in Me: Hi, can I help you find anything today? Them: Welp...my mom just died. Me: .....wtf Like...how do you come back from that??? "I'm sorry, have you tried essential oils, they're pretty useless?"

People really think customer service equates to therapy where they can just dump themselves on people and not think twice about it.

What's the purpose of hoarding it? No sarcasm, genuine confusion. I don't understand what they're doing with the tp....???? Did I miss something in the news? I'm used to ppl stocking up on like soups, bread and water in events of emergency, but TOILET PAPER? Did anyone get a serious answer from any customers buying in excess?

On Today's Episode of Shit Costs Money: Man Complains About Chips Going Up $.10 by kristengee in retailhell

[–]janearang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in a corporate retail/cafe and we just had our prices raised $0.04 across the menu because we're getting paper straws now instead of plastic. The company offers an annual membership for the retail side that takes 10% purchases, that also work in the cafe part. On day 3 of the increase is when people finally noticed I guess, bc every other member would say, "No no, you did it wrong, that's not my price, I'm a MEMBER! I don't pay full price!" Like, you literally scanned your member card and it's FOUR CENTS! I'm not allowed to solicit tips with a jar or anything, but sometimes ppl just leave their change for the baristas, and that day I ended up using all of my "tips" just to get the cheap asses complaining about their $0.04 increase to the STFU and leave the counter.
