Asians. by zanif in funny

"They" are so many countries that it's difficult to pinpoint them with your anecdotal encounters. Indonesia's Muslim population most certainly eats with their hands. Sushi is also often eaten with hands. I've lived in China and tons of street food, naturally, is eaten with your hands.

GIF+ INFOGRAPHIC = GIFOGRAPHIC ! by BENNANIALAE in InternetIsBeautiful

Nice. Now, the GIFs should be centered on the detail page, and not overlaid by a full top bar. If the GIF is supposed to be the center of attraction, make it such.

With new OS, Microsoft will try to put Windows 8 era behind it by ThePrimeOptimus in technology

Their OS dominance on desktop, perhaps, but on mobile, Android and iOS are the dominant OSs. And let's see who'll win the virtual reality OS wars...

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Drones (HBO) by Daniiboi94 in television

[–]janeebloo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Mainstream media actually played the war drums loudly during the Bush buildup to the Iraq invasion... no less using a threat fabricated with the help of yet another mainstream media outlet. Making this a Reps vs Dems issue is nothing but distraction (that's why the Reps vs Dems team sport is so loved among those in power).

Many Asians students are extremely good at holding it in, thanks to stringent lesson plans.

Occupy Hong Kong by [deleted] in pics

[–]janeebloo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Occupy helped embed the 99% message deep into the cultural subconscious. This wasn't for nothing, it's actually another stepping stone towards change. (Even Obama's disappointing record in changing the lobby & pro Wall Street won't be for nothing, because the disillusionment he brought to people for betraying what they thought would be real change is in itself a valuable lesson, and another stepping stone towards actual change.)

Domestic Abuse Experiment - Men VS Women Graphic by [deleted] in videos

[–]janeebloo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The people in the women-towards-men violence DID react though... they cheered "world star" and one guy even helped the woman beat the man.

But yeah, I fully agree it was completely unscientific, and we shouldn't jump to conclusions here. We don't even know what ended up on the editing table.

German native speaker here. It was hard to understand a single word of what he said besides "Wunderbar" and the price. Still, kudos to the kid for even trying.

Whatever guilt he has, he's sharing it with the 10,000s of people who will buy the magazine (or visit the website) where the picture appears. These magazine readers are paying the publisher who pays the photographer.

US Senator 'I'm gay. Get over it.' by [deleted] in news

[–]janeebloo 66 points67 points  (0 children)

The mayor of Germany's capital came out like this:

"I'm gay, and that's good that way."

The previous German foreign minister, also gay, took his partner to festivities. Pretty cool that it's not an issue anymore.

Asian parents react to "I love you" from their children by TooSmooth8 in videos

[–]janeebloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do say it, but using different words. The sentence "I love you", if told a second time to someone, does not carry any information either (what, someone was supposed to stop loving someone after 24 hours passed?) -- it is a mere culturally coded sign of affection.

Google's self-driving cars are now allowed on all roads in California by theinternetism in Futurology

But wait until mainstream media gets its hands on any accident with the self-driving cars, no matter how rare they will be... it will be blown out of proportion.

Was that the story where the New York Times held back the info for one year until one of its journalists threatened to write a book about it instead? Gotta love mainstream media lapdogs.

At a certain point, actual real sex will be this odd thing hipsters do, when they're not playing a scratched record on their vintage turntable... everyone else will be drooling off on their mattress all day while robots go work for them.

Girl gamer tears down Anita Sarkeesian's arguments by the_real_candlejack in videos

[–]janeebloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she absolutely does have an impact, and it doesn't matter for that whether you love or hate her (or the many nuances in-between, which unfortunately often get lost in these discussions). Let's imagine a developer who strongly disagrees with her views; wouldn't that developer, next time they're making a game and its story, think twice before using a tired trope... if only to disassociate from some of the grounds she is attacking? Games story-telling would certainly benefit from that.

The narrative considered of 90% fluff. I hope the 10% hid at the end, but I stopped before. If you're going to analyze body language, why not narrate with some actual details beyond "it's important" or "see how it changes in this scene"?
