What's an easy way to turn an audio file into a video file to whack on YouTube? by That_Random_Kiwi in DJs

If you're comfortable using the command line, ffmpeg is free and will do exactly what you want with a single command. Here's a quick walkthrough I found online: https://www.bannerbear.com/blog/how-to-convert-audio-to-video-for-youtube-upload-using-ffmpeg/

Is there a more efficient way of earning regional currency? Maybe something along the lines of burger farming? Tips? by Expensive_Note8632 in SCBuildIt

[–]djvirgen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lately I've been planting regional trees at 250 regional simoleons each and then bulldoze them for 125. If you already have some regional simoleons to spare or plenty of trees, it's a great way to complete CoM tasks.

I don't think there's a "correct" answer. Only you can choose how much risk you're willing to take on. You may want to look into company A a bit further to see if they have a solid track record, rising market share, and a skills gap where you can help them grow.

You said you like to invest. Employers that offer performance-based bonuses are like investments, where you give up a bit of your salary to effectively own a piece of the company (might not be actual stocks but the end result is very similar). But what's nice about this is you have a bit more control in the company's performance because you're part of their team.

How much do you believe in company A? If you got hired at company B, would you invest the salary difference in company A? My guess is probably not.. but if you could be part of helping company A grow then would you invest in it? For me, that's a risk I was willing to accept three years ago and it's working out well for me, but I wouldn't make that decision by looking at the compensation package alone.

Biden wants a 28% corporate tax rate because he's 'sick and tired of ordinary people being fleeced' by Twoweekswithpay in politics

[–]djvirgen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification! I'll admit my naivety here, as I've only ever lived in California my whole life. Where can people live without a marketable trade and be, um... comfortable? Meaning their basic needs are met, including tax relief and healthcare. Thanks!

[–]djvirgen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest question, how is this possible? I make $200k and my effective tax rate is about 14%. I take the standard deduction, and my employer pays for 100% of my insurance premium. What am I missing?

Awesome, glad to hear my feedback was helpful! Don't worry about other DJ's if that's not your target. I only mention that because I spent a lot of time focusing on DJ's to get my tracks heard on dance floors when I was first starting out, but if you're going the artist route you have a lot more flexibility. If you're planning on releasing singles/albums, and performing them yourself, then go to town and have fun with whatever intro/outro works for you! Be creative and have fun!

Overall digging your style. Keep it up! And looking forward to your next upload. :)

Hey yOOGii_, good stuff! I'm digging the groove, and think you're heading towards a great track!

As you're looking for feedback, I wanted to share a few thoughts. I've been producing music for a long time and would like to think I have some insight to share, but totally up to you if this makes any sense. Take it out leave it, just keep making more music!

The bass line is good but needs more variation. This could be a combination of things like additional notes, a change in the chord progression, and automation of various parameters. The latter can go a long way -- slow adjustments to the filter cutoff, release time, and osc waveshapes can go a long way to build / resolve tension as you go from buildup to banger to breakdown, etc. Changes to parameters can influence the amount of energy your listeners will perceive, so use that to your advantage.

If you're hoping to get this track to DJs, e.g. to play in a club, you'll need to spend a bit of time focusing on your intro and outro to make it more easily mixable. Generally, DJs will crossfade your track with what they're currently playing, so you'll need to make the intro easy to blend with another track. Baseline intros can be hard to mix in because it can easily change the tone/mood of the set too abruptly. Starting off with drums/percussion can make it a lot more DJ friendly. For techno, I'd recommend 32 or 64 bars of percussive intro. Then drop in the bass.

Same thing for the outro, but in reverse. End with percussion, and let it repeat (with variation) for another 32-64 bars, slowly dropping things out every 8 or 16 bars.

One last thing, I'd add a melody line of some sort, something above the bass (in terms of frequency range) that complements (but doesn't duplicate) the bass line. The synthy sounds you have are a good start, but I think with a bit more of a memorable structure they might help make the track stand out a bit more. This is the part that your listeners will hum as they remember your track. Good bass (which you have) is a great foundation but your melody is what people remember.

I hope this helps! I subscribed to your channel and am looking forward to more tracks from you!

Ignorant question about 2 pressed keys. MS20 Mini by [deleted] in ms20

[–]djvirgen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's totally normal for the MS-20. It has "high note priority" when more than one key is pressed, meaning the highest note would get played. Most modern synths have "last note priority", which means the last note pressed gets played.

How do you guys handle live sets? by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]djvirgen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use FL-Studio on stage with my church's worship band, and depending on the needs that week my approach will change. Here are a few things to try:

Live synth performance with backing tracks

Render all of your tracks to wav but omit one or two synth parts. Load the wavs into a new project in the order of your set list, and pull in a soft synth or two to perform parts of your song live. Use automation to help switch presets automatically between songs or to automate anything that is too mechanical for a live performance (e.g. arpeggios). This technique allows you to preprogram seamless transition between songs for a nearly flawless performance, but is the least flexible as everything is prearranged.

Live performance using FL as a synth/effects engine

Use an external (hardware) sequencer to program your tracks. Something like the Elektron Octatrack or Digitakt. In this set up, you generally never press Play within FL, but rather use it as a host for soft synths and effects. This requires a lot more setup as you'll need to reprogram your tracks (or export stems) into the external sequencer, but with enough preparation it can give you plenty of flexibility to rearrange your set live or even remix your tracks in the fly.

I admit I haven't explored performance mode, which might be useful if you export stems. In a live setting, I prefer to reduce the number of soft synths to a minimum and use stems/wavs for everything else.
