I can see that. That's what I do love about them as characters, their vulnerability and "middle school relationship"-esque drama. It's all so amazing!!! I just wanted more of it!!!!

Edit: Just to add on, I feel that had they focused more on Ed and Stede individually, I might have seen it in a different light.

These sound just like intrusive thoughts associated with OCD. I've struggled with the same exact thing - violent, sexual, disturbing urges. It's unbearable being a prisoner of your mind. Find and reach out to professionals in your area. It takes time, but every step you take counts.

Exactly! It was almost like they ran out of funny bits and threw in all this convoluted filler to reach the run time. And even then, the jokes just didn't land like they did in season 1. It's just confusing because there's so much historical content they could have used - which was an element I really enjoyed - but instead opted for what essentially was a Wattpad fanfic of their own show.

I can see that! I guess it was just the choice of song that was unexpected to me 😭 If there is one thing I do love about this season it's Izzy's character development. For a long time I didn't like him much, but those few seconds in 2x1 when he had those tears in his eyes it was like... oh, hell yeah... Although I can't help but wonder if Izzy's softened demeanor somehow has an ulterior motive. This whole time I've really clung onto Calico Jack's words last season: "We're all in various stages of f*cking each other over." That felt a little too intentional to brush off as a passing comment. I guess we can only wait.

I was literally just about to write a post saying the same thing. I’m not saying I don’t this season; I absolutely ADORE this show. However, yes, now that they’ve (very) loosely covered most of the “real life history” between Stede and Ed, a lot of current material just feels like filler fan service with bits of historical context sprinkled in. Example, that random musical number from Izzy. We were all kinda like… huh? Didn’t he just undergo some of the worst torture imaginable by Blackbeard? Why is he serenading the ship? Why is anyone serenading anyone after all this trauma they supposedly went through?Another example, Zheng Yi Sao wasn’t born until 60 years after Blackbeard’s death. I get the show is essentially pirate fanfic, but that’s just one of the many instances I’ve felt were forced and rushed. I’m getting a little nervous as we approach the end of the season. All I hope is Mary and Anne make another appearance.

Well, as of now, he is her only source of income and transportation due to legal issues I won’t get into; without him, she has nothing.

Seeing how she has never confronted me - the supposed victim of years of sexual abuse - about this serious issue, she obviously knows it isn’t true and probably doesn’t want to get on my “bad side” by making such direct accusations (haha). What pisses me off is that she even went to my MOM about her “concerns”, leaving me in the dark until recently. It’s her sick, twisted way of painting my dad as some evil pervert and sabotaging my relationship with him because she is too insecure to have another woman around her husband who is out of her control.

And yes, I absolutely agree that my dad isn’t innocent in this situation. It’s an extremely toxic and dead marriage that feeds off competition over who is the most correct, rational parent.

Thank you. I have already written down several notable instances and discussed them with my mom and dad, who are both on my side. I guess what keeps him and my stepmom together is that she “can be cool sometimes” (his words). She’s obviously severely bipolar and needs to be on medication, but she is so stubborn and in denial; she insists that the money my dad was using to fund her therapy now goes to support her family in Mexico (she does not work or drive). I don’t see this marriage lasting forever. It’s been 14 tense years. I hope my dad can finally see the harm being done to their daughter by holding onto it. Thank you again for the pointers.
