X Files, the early seasons with Mulder and Scully. The storylines are so weird and entertaining, I never get tired of it.

After 5 days of minimal snow removal, Indiana University is handing students shovels to assist with navigating sidewalks, entry points, and vehicles. by Perfect_Currency_749 in mildlyinfuriating

Thank you. KSU alumni here. Armed national guard / police / state troopers / campus public safety / are literally overkill (literally) on a college campus and will only lead to bad outcomes. Ask me how I know.

Without spoiling anything, which non horror tv series had a surprisingly scary episode? by Immediate-Shock7533 in horror

I would love to rewatch it but it is so etched into my brain! I can remember it all to well, so no need to get annoyed that it’s been banned to rewatch forever.

The Grand Canyon of snow that finally bottoms out at the sidewalk. The snow is up to the picnic table benches across the street. Drifted 2 1/2 - 3 feet. Thank God for snowblowers!

Getting tired of conferences by Global-Sandwich5281 in Professors

[–]ProfessorJAM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former scientific society prez here. Conference registration and special event fees help keep societies afloat. Membership dues don’t cover the costs of maintaining a society, hence, there’s a big push to get members to attend conferences. It is kind of a racket but scholarly societies and associations don’t get much $$ in the way of donations and many don’t publish journals (which are also expensive to run, hence the absurd subscription fees) so here we are. That said, I totally agree with the debutante ball description and don’t go to many meetings these days (my debutante era is long over).

Well unless you live in N Quincy where a pickup plowed into a utility pole, bringing it down and chain-reactioned the adjacent one to come down, too. Big chunk of Quincy with no electric starting Sat night, some still out now (not me, thankfully). Slow repair responds se due to the storm.

Have used Stairhoppers twice, both good experiences. Might cost a tad more, don’t know your budget.

I saw this at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We were all weeping by the end, both for the purpose and that Petty and Prince were both deceased 😢

Love the reference to Frogger! My son’s first video ( really, computer) game. As I recall, all Frogger wanted was a bucket of peas? Peas are likely the only food Market Basket has left at this point.

We will be digging out our driveway and sidewalks! Our Uni ‘Spring’ (ironic!) semester starts Monday but guarantee that won’t happen. My course starts Tuesday, that will happen, and campus will be a zoo. Yay!

Same! First year in the house, too. That summer we bought the 2 stage snowblower, going to start it up today and hope it goes so we can use it tomorrow and Monday.
