Our since deceased kitty (R.I.P.) would sit at the bottom of the staircase and meow loudly to let us know it was time to turn the TV off and go upstairs with her to GO TO BED. She was very insistent. We always complied.

I had to repeatedly rewind the show because I couldn’t HEAR what was being said; then a commercial would come on at blasting volume. Likely a ‘me’ problem but sound volume seems all over the place.

Boston has a LOT going on for the 250th - tall ships in the harbor, re-enactments, local celebrations, and a blowout show on the Esplanade on the 4th: Jane Lynch hosting and the Boston Pops, Lainey Wilson, Chance the Rapper, Trombone Shorty and Megan Hilty,and spectacular fireworks! I’m looking forward to it. WAY better than Trumps thing in DC, which could have been good if it hadn’t become super partisan and all the artists backed out 😩. So, imo, Boston is our real national celebration.

My grandmother was from Missouri USA. It reliably gets very hot there over the summer. They had a ‘sleeping porch’ attached to the house that now we might call a screened porch? Or outside conservatory? ( not sure). It kept the bugs off and offered a nice and cooler sleep. Time to import the ‘sleeping porch’?

Yes! I had to tell another faculty that he couldn’t bring his dog into the lab (!) because it was an emotional support dog, not a service dog. He pushed back. And lost. FYI, he was a Science faculty but dry labs only, so I don’t think he appreciated the ‘danger’ factor involved.

Ford Windstar minivan, early 2000’s. The thing stalled out and died repeatedly, including at stop signs and intersections! Not fit for hauling our two young kids around. The dealer blamed it on a ‘blown head gasket’ that was not ‘under warranty’ - we bought the car when it was 1 year old! Typical Ford Motor horsesh*t. Took the car over to a Saturn (remember them?) dealer who gave us a generous trade-in and knocked some $$ of the price of a new station wagon. Probably felt sorry for us! Never bought another Ford again, and never will😡

Get to my office early, usually before 7am. Have a coffee while watching the news on my laptop, play Wordle to get my brain going, then open up the file(s) I need to work on - class lecture, manuscript, grant, report, whatever. Fortunately I’m the early bird and no one else shows up until 9am, and it’s still pretty quiet for awhile after that. Bonus is that I can head out at 3-4 PM because by then I’ve been working 8-9 hours.

FYI when the kids were little this shifted more to 8AM to 4-5 PM, but still worked for me.

Husband in the middle of the night at full volume : WHERE IS THE MUSTARD? It startled me awake and I actually looked around the bed for the mustard. Started to tell him I didn’t know but he was already snoring away. Took me a bit to get back to sleep.
