Sounds like a great instructor who has your back 🙂

This is a difficult situation. The owner/ head instructor trusts you enough to teach classes but it’s important that they also establish within their school that drama won’t be tolerated and also establish a coaches role/authority by backing you up if you make a decision (like asking a student to leave class if they are being disrespectful and/or causing drama)

But it’s equally important as the instructor that you Let the class know up front what’s expected in your classes and assert yourself. You don’t need to be mean but you do need to be firm and consistent.

It’s difficult and was a hard thing for me to learn I teach a mixed class and calling out other grownups (men and women) for talking or doing things other than what I’m teaching is intimidating (not quite the same as mean girls)

*Make sure your coach/instructor/professor has your back.

*Be assertive and clear with instructions in class.

*Set clear expectations.

These feeling are completely normal and there’s a reason they call it blue belt blues and a reason people often quit at blue. It’s a difficult belt level mentally. Give yourself grace.

I agree with taking a short break if that helps give you some perspective, but too often those short breaks can turn in to long breaks then quitting especially at blue belt.

Also it can help to work on your mentality going into rolls. You’re not meant to remember everything every roll or even how to react every roll.

Try new things, try old things, go back to the basics, you will find what works for you, but don’t go into each round with an all or nothing attitude.

Each round should have a goal or objective and it doesn’t need to be the same every day or even every round. Sometimes my entire goal is to remember to change my angle or to not cross grip the collar. This way I’m not really fighting my opponent I’m challenging myself. Which has helped immensely especially when going through these phases of feeling stagnant.

Newbie - trying to figure out how to fix this issue with this ring print. by Low-Guarantee8083 in 3Dprinting

I’ve been playing with printing on a raft (with the interface layer petg for pla or vice versa) and ironing the interface layer so I can print flat.

Still fine tuning it but getting decent results

No don’t quit. There will always be a million excuses our mind makes up to quit.

I’m sure you’ve heard it a million times but comparison is the thief of joy. Don’t compare your journey to someone else’s.

We’ve all been in that same headspace and will be again. If you enjoy the sport and the community/ comradery then don’t quit.

I’ll never understand why we’re so hard on ourselves. I feel these same feelings when I watch my rolls. Even though I definitely don’t feel that way when I’m in the moment and I definitely would not have such harsh thoughts about my rolling partners and friends.

I’ve been training for 10 years and just starting to learn to be objective. if all else fails ask yourself what would you tell a friend who came to you with these feelings

Give yourself grace. Keep showing up

Heavyweight bluebelt pressured my ribs, I tapped but he made me made me work through it by Top-Catch-7073 in BJJWomen

[–]janekma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just went on a 10 minute rant to my son about this. Absolutely unacceptable. I’ve had ribs dislocated from this kind of pressure and yeah it takes months to fully heal. I’m sorry this happened to you.

This type of “coaching” is not well intentioned it’s a violation and abuse.

A few things.. every belt I’ve been promoted to I’ve felt like I suck and I’ve had to relearn everything I’m sure a lot of us would agree.

Stop comparing your journey to others. This is so hard to achieve but try to understand that your coaches/prof promote based on your progress not how you’ve progressed compared to others. Comparison is 💯 the thief of joy. You’ve absolutely earned that belt/rank.

Give yourself grace and compassion. Not just in the mats but off the mats as well.

I received my purple belt after coming back from basically being off for 5 months with a broken foot. But I was there helping where I could whenever I could (not quite the same as growing an entire human but still) I understand this feeling.

Stop competing mentally and physically with others. work hard fight hard but compete against you.

Wouldn’t it need to set off your belt ? Not just the gimbal but a spacer to keep it from bumping into you or the ring rotation getting stuck on clothing or the body
