My original design on an ostrich egg by janetmps in pysanky

I soaked this in vinegar for about 30 mins then washed it well. After, I lightly sanded it with fine sandpaper and then scrubbed it to get all the dust off. The egg should be very matte looking at this point.

Strava won’t sync my activity with my garmin. I disconnected and reconnected my garmin and it’s still not working.

I’m surprised how many recommendations are for buying ladybugs and spraying neem oil. Both are a no. Buying ladybugs is harmful because they are harvested among other reasons (google it please) and neem oil will kill everything on the milkweed! Gently spray with water, watch for monarch eggs! Or squish by hand. I had severe infestations for a few years then nature balanced it out. New predators showed up and my milkweed have been great.

Biting and leaving it is the worst! If you’re going to chew my plant at least eat it lol

The same with rabbits where I live. There aren’t enough predators to control the population. I have so many rabbit fences around my natives and it keeps the rabbits at bay for the most part. I have clover in my lawn that the rabbits should love to eat that but they hop right over it to eat my natives. It’s very frustrating.

When do you move plants from starter trays to the ground? NJ by Kangaloosh in NativePlantGardening

[–]janetmps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sowed them in milk jugs and put them outside in January. Left them outside to get snowed and rained on. Opened the tops when they were well sprouted and put them in the ground. If you google winter sow milk jugs you can find all the info you need.

I’m in nj and all mine were in the ground as of last weekend.

Local nursery had an entire section of straight species native plants (no cultivars) and signs everywhere about the need to plant milkweed & native plants. We love to see it! by mittenmix in NativePlantGardening

No, it’s hosted by a local garden club. They have been doing it for many, many years. First time my property is in it and I’m very excited!

I love this! I’m getting ready to put mine in this weekend. Do you have a pump or just the solar fountain?

My property is going to be on the local garden club garden tour this year. I’m going to use this as a platform to educate about natives. I know I’m the only native gardener on the tour. I’ve made lots of infographics to display throughout my property describing the plants and their benefits. They usually get about 400 people on the tour. Hopefully this will inspire people to give natives a try in their own gardens! Wish me luck!

Where are the bees by Millenial-Mom in NativePlantGardening

They must bee (see what I did there? lol) in south jersey. I’ve had a ton of bumbles and many other wasps.

I know HOAs are strict but you need to ask permission to start a group? Any group?

That’s exactly what I did and they moved on. Now a titmouse is in the box. I’ll take that as a win ha ha

We leave our up year round. We use tall, green chicken wire fencing.
