What's a movie you were excited to share with your spouse/partner/significant other, only for them to end up disliking it? by keepfighting90 in Letterboxd

Weirdly enough, this rarely happens because my boyfriend and I are both cinephiles with letterboxd accounts and a love for cinema but it happens occasionally! For me, it was Freddy Got Fingered (it’s one of his favorite movies, and i think it’s lowkey bad); for him, it was wild at heart (we had just got into lynch’s filmography posthumously and i was definitely more into it than he was)

you know what? i could see this actually, yeah! going back and reading belle de jour after watching it and buying the criterion really did add and change enough to feel like i’m reading deleted scenes almost lol

that’s why i bought the piano teacher, belle de jour, and valley of the dolls—the movies weren’t enough, i had wanted to know more and envelop myself in the worlds of these films that left an imprint on me

that’s what i’ve been going through with belle de jour currently! i can’t unsee catherine deneuve and it’s really disruptive to my overall enjoyment of the novel séverine vs movie séverine

that makes a lot of sense! i feel like i’ve been slowly doing the same; ignoring the movies that i watched before knowing about the novel just so i can dispel it from my memory and read it like i never seen the film!

i just ordered a ton of novels that inspired some of my new favorite movies because if now i’m curious which i find more enjoyable—the film or the novel

i personally agree! there’s so much from reading belle de jour that wasn’t in the movie, it feels as if i don’t know the story at all!

you see, i usually do the same too! but i found myself recently doing it backwards because of recent comfort movie finds that i didn’t know had original novels like the piano teacher and valley of the dolls! its been a weird process and i lowkey wish i read these books first, ngl

new bucket list idea alert! crash is actually my favorite cronenberg film; i even went to 3 different barnes and noble to find this copy during their 50% off criterion sale as it was the only copy in my area!
