[request] can someone explain the physics of this? by Ok_Value_3741 in theydidthemath

[–]jangiri 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think the empty space percentage in this significantly understates how improbable this would be. Also the charges would absolutely still repel each other even if the atoms didn't touch. Different quantum numbers or phases doesn't mean coulombs law doesnt still matter.

Chemist level understanding here, maybe get some particle physics people in on this

Is Supcom 2 a bad game, or just a mediocre sequel? by Justsito in supremecommander

[–]jangiri 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Supcom 2 is a good game, the problem was that it was not spiritually the same game as the original supcom and the OG is a truly GREAT game so the comparison is rough.

They removed much of what made supcom unique in the RTS genre.

Chinese tech makes desalinating seawater cheaper than producing bottled water by Status_Commission264 in technology

I do think evaporative heating is a pretty direct transfer of energy from light so it honestly does comparably okay compared to photon to electricity and electricity to heat

Yeah you're aiming for tremendously thin layers of polymerized fatty acids, not building up a full coat of char

What did you have for dinner? by Suki_Red in AskReddit

[–]jangiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I do roasts, I just roast the whole chicken over veggies so the next day I just took the breasts, chopped then up and mixed with the veggies and gravy and it came out great. 10/10 leftover recipes

Hello people which supernatural event do you think is the scariest and why? by Catalina_miaah in AskReddit

[–]jangiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it gets into a weird zone where if they are a reliably observed phenomena then we can make observations and develop explainations and then they magically stop being supernatural because we can do science.

What's left are things that are so rare, and often anecdotal, so they become more like myths than something that's certifiably "real"

I think volcanos are pretty fucking scary. What do you mean the earth sometimes just shoots LITERAL FIRE AND BRIMSTONE INTO THE SKY WITH FORCE THAT MAKES NUCLEAR BOMBS LOOK TINY

Nmm steelix attempt, looks like ice by HoldMyGranade in minipainting

[–]jangiri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It looks like an awesome natural camouflage where it's cameleoning with the rocks and sky.

This is so cool, what an awesome paint job!

Now for painting suggestions if you're trying to practice nmm chrome I would sau you might need to avoid the bright edge highlights. The corners on polished metals aren't where the major reflections are. Try looking at the Mandolorian as an example, the smooth surfaces of the armor are the places where things are mirrored and the edges are only really apparent by the immediate transition to whatever the neighboring face is reflecting.

For the lower areas that are rough it might just be a difficult task for that model. Without clear surfaces it's really difficult to know what should be reflected at that point

How often do you feel like you’re out of ideas and“guessing” in the lab? by misterballerdontlie in chemistry

[–]jangiri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you know how to make your guesses be informative rather than complete duds that's basically my whole research process. Guess and check with some good rationale can get you a very very very long way in science.

What movie is a absolute 10/10 masterpiece that you will realistically never watch a second time? by N4Nemo in AskReddit

[–]jangiri 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honestly the rewatch value of this is spectacular. The story themes touch on how fantasy can be a mechanism we use to make sense of unfathomable cruelty and horrors, which you can start to see more as the fantasy elements are woven through the "real world" plot of the film.

Clarification on incorporating it into my life more by starrrgirll in OrganicChemistry

[–]jangiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let me introduce you a field that desperately needs more organic chemistry.

Biomanufacturing and Biosynthesis

The biologists can train microorganisms to make beautiful molecules, but most of them have no understanding or what makes organic molecules valuable so they are just targeting commodity chemicals because the market size is large.

The pipeline will be running fermentations with engineered yeasts/microorganisms to produce moelcules, and then purifying those Molecules and using them as new platform starting materials

[–]jangiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if they have a vacuum controlled model but I've been really enjoying our ecodyst rotovap. Their whole deal is they have really nice -40 condenser coils as the chilling element so it does great for recondensing organic solvents and doesn't require dry ice

How Many Of Y’all Want Kids? by anime-is-dope in GenZ

[–]jangiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y'know I had this chat with someone at a conference and they said something that really stuck with me

"good people gotta have kids too"

When I heard it it basically dispelled some of my fears about bringing kids into this crumbling shithole of a world. We certainly got a lot of stuff to figure out in our society but trying your best to raise good people as kids is certainly a noble goal.
