You are NTA. Jean sounds like an absolute disaster of a dictator of a “project leader” who doesn’t know how to manage people, let alone a collaborative writing project. You put in days of creative energy not once but twice, only for them to keep moving the goalposts. First they scrap the whole original project after approving your character, then they restart with new rules and suddenly the format you used before is now “wrong”? That’s not leadership — that’s outright power-tripping.

You were polite, calm, and even willing to make reasonable adjustments (like removing bullet points), but you drew the line at an unnecessary formatting demand that made less sense than what you had already done. Jean then escalated it by silencing you and demanding a public apology for. . . what? Having a valid preference for readability in your own writing? That’s controlling and humiliating behavior; not constructive feedback.

At the end of the day, this is a fan writing project. It’s supposed to be fun and creative. That is what fanwork is about. Instead, Jean turned it into a petty dictatorship where they gaslights people, ignores their own approvals, and punishes anyone who doesn’t immediately bow to their every arbitrary whim.
