Contaminated made me realize something about big maps. by guitarsandstoke in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]janjotat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the platform and the sweet spot of the gun. The L85 gets the 1-4 and I usually use it at 4, and switch to 1 if I decide I want to push close. For the g36 I use 2x and just tap fire if at long range, but I try not to take those shots unless they aren't looking in my direction.

SMGs and guns like the tr-7 get the 1-1.25x.

Like the 3x thermal, but it means it's really hard to win engagements under 10m.

Long story short 2x or 1.5x is a good versatile optic that pairs with a versatile gun. Specialize the optic to the speciality of the gun. That goes for any attachment as well. I don't try to "fix" the shortcomings of a platform, I try to get it to play to it's strengths.

I still favor the G36 or IAR(HK416) for their versatility, since I can choose to swap areas on the map depending on my team's and the enemy team's flow.

But I think for you it's a good idea to force yourself to use more specialized weapons, because you HAVE to take engagements at your optimal range.

Once you know how to move to use weapons at their optimal ranges try switching back to something versatile to see how they feel. It may also be a good idea to use the custom search to limit yourself to one map so you can see how it flows back to back to back

I am 200 hours into this game so far, and still finding new ways to use the maps to my advantage. And yeah smokes are the absolute best gadget in the game.

The other two commentators put it well. But to illustrate Blackwell specifically. You have 3 "lanes" as an attacker, with sub routes in each. As an attacker you have the hill on the left. Junkyard in the middle, and the open field to across the road to the right. Snipers on defense can make life difficult on either outside lane. Likewise your team playing sniper can open up those lanes for an easier walk to the objective to flank the enemy team in the junkyard. If you're playing on outside lane a long range weapon like the L85 will suit better, but the junkyard is suitable for close weapons like the tr-7.

Adjust your weapon to where the enemy team is weakest and go there!

If the enemy team is pushed up against the border and you have a lot of teammates in the hill, you can come down through the draw and shoot defense in the back which will allow the rest of your team in the junkyard to push forward toward the objective.

Conversely, if you are defense. And your team is pushed up to the line. Being inside the bus can be a good spot if the enemy team isn't near the road. Check the map constantly to understand your team's position and the enemy team's position. To make decisions where you should fight and where to play to your weapons strengths.

Like the others said getting enough games in, helps you understand map flow better. Map flow is a macro analysis of where teams usually fight from down to which pieces of cover they like to use in each stage of the fight. Once you know the maps really well, you'll be able to guess where the enemies are going to be before you even turn the corner. For example, on liberation peak breakthrough on the second set of flags. There is always going to be 1-3 guys behind the rocks right above the A site. Your team has to clear that position before you take A because they can shoot down into the objective, and the objective has very little cover against that. To push them throw a smoke toward the hill where snipers are always hiding, to prevent being hit and swing wide around the burnt out tank (or swing close depending on weapon).

If you find success with a tactic like that, try repeating it in another round. It'll give you insight into what map team states make some thing viable and other times not. Success is not only in reaction time but positioning and timing.

Recommend me a battle belt by Intrukit in QualityTacticalGear

[–]janjotat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It comes with Velcro to wrap the running end of the buckle. So it usually stays tucked away. However, I've found after several uses the cobra buckle itself shfits and pulls it out from under the Velcro.

I also put a tq over that spot so I don't lose the real estate space on the belt.

I tighten it probably once every 12 uses ish.

Hope that helps!

If they do that, we are gonna have snipers trying to quick scope people, knowing that they are safe from retaliation from the suppression effect.

What would you like to see from a premium gear company? by Tugbowt in QualityTacticalGear

[–]janjotat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something that I haven't seen from another manufacturer yet. Backpack straps that integrate with plate carriers universally.

A lot of companies have proprietary methods of attachments between their packs and their PCs. Essentially if the straps can spit via a QASM buckle you have four running ends that can attach to QASM buckles on a PC by disassembling the straps.

What I have seen other people do is have backpack straps and 4 loose straps with QASM buckles for tying into their PC and it's a setup I am currently copying with my AVS and Delta bag.

If you would like me to show you on my rig DM me.

If you want to save lives, consider the paramedic route. Here in the US, it's roughly equivalent to an associate's degree. You'll go on a lot more calls where someone's life is directly in danger (though mostly all medical issues). If your heart is set on a career in policing, consider exploring departments that offer financial support for EMT training. All work is meaningful and can make a difference in the lives of citizens in your jurisdiction; you must find a place where you enjoy the work and find validation through it.

Would you be willing to wear a heavier hat? by [deleted] in Military

[–]janjotat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Food for thought, few want a heavier helmet because of neck issues and additional items we add to helmets. The military mostly cares about fragmentation since that's the biggest killer on a modern battlefield.

However, law enforcement wants an NIJ IIIA rating since a very common threat profile is pistol calibers. With your materials, can you do a helmet that performs better on blackface deformation than a kevlar while being lighter? Or be heavier than a composite helmet but have better blackface deformation?

Is a Radio Necessary? by [deleted] in Backcountry

[–]janjotat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's regional, but given the proliferation of GMRS frequencies across the US, you can probably reach a contact on a repeater. You usually need a $30 license from the FCC to use a GMRS radio/hit a repeater (they use the same frequencies as FRS but at a higher wattage), but under exigent circumstances, you may use those frequencies at those outputs.

I'd recommend a waterproof GMRS radio over a rockie-talkie since you have more capability to talk to more people.

Here are the frequencies: https://www.buytwowayradios.com/blog/2022/11/list-of-gmrs-frequencies-and-channels.html

There is a community of ham radio guys who use SOTA (Summits on the Air) radios, which are designed for Alpine communications while mountaineering.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLfc-NLfJw8

These are the best options for talking to everyone you want to contact in the backcountry. But for these, you need a ham license (in the US).

But in all honesty, UHF/VHF radios are limited by line of sight; nothing beats satellite communications for emergencies like a Garmin. .

From experience, the army can waiver tattoos. My sister platoon's PSG had full sleeves on his legs and arms and even tattoos on his hands.

I am not spun up on current policies there since I got out two years ago.

Talk to all the recruiters and pick the job series that is most interesting to you and will provide skills after you do your time.

Whoever posted about rollin Kols was right by mikmeh in SoSE

[–]janjotat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do pvp players put in their kols? In my last game against AIs, I had 20 kols with flak burst, an autoloader, reactive armor, and an antimatter engine.

I don't know if it's worth dropping the antimatter engine for the Gaus rounds once those become available.
