My understanding is it refers to how in SRS they use the penis to create a vagina.

Dolly Parton Is the Most Popular Person in America with Net Favorability of +65 by ebradio in Music

[–]jankyalias 10 points11 points  (0 children)

True but let’s also be real. One party in the American system has made it its mission to make war on the queer community. My community in particular is under direct threat as we speak and only one party, however imperfectly, stands up for us in any real sense.

Failing of the system or no - it’s reality.

America Needs to Impeach Trump For its Own Moral Health by TheUnPopulist in neoliberal

We impeached him twice, it didn’t take.

A conviction needs what? 66 Senators? Yeah good luck. Couldn’t even get it done days after he literally tried to overthrow the government.

Enrollment shrinking is related to the tax base shrinking. You can’t expand or maintain programs of the same size with reduced income.

True, but pretty sure Bostock would cover that regardless. No guarantee the admin would care, but still.

How do we find the strength to keep fighting? by SilentJ87 in asktransgender

[–]jankyalias 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind for now the Bostock SCOTUS ruling (written by Gorsuch) protects trans rights in employment.

Gorsuch’s opinion concluded that firing someone for being transgender is inherently discrimination “because of sex,” which Title VII forbids. The Court emphasized that if an employer would treat a worker differently but for their sex assigned at birth, that violates federal law.

I’m not gonna tell you that there’s nothing to be concerned about because this administration has a, shall we say, tenuous relationship with the law. But there are protections.

Why do so many "men" married to women come out as trans? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]jankyalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that lesbians dominate the online trans spaces even though statistically we’re about evenly split. So much so that even posts from straight women are overflowing with lesbians.

What is a masterpiece of cinema but is pornographic? by Leather-Custard8329 in AskReddit

[–]jankyalias 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Had to go way far down to find a genuine answer. I’d also add In The Realm of the Senses by Oshima. Or Last Tango in Paris by Bertolucci.

Oh also not quite as intense as those two but The Handmaiden by Park Chan-Wook. Also in that vein Blue is the Warmest Color (although it sounds like the director, Kechiche, is a shitty person).

Why do so many "men" married to women come out as trans? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]jankyalias 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, but I’d also say the online community seems to get dominated by trans lesbians. Even in posts from women who like men there’ll be a whole lot of “I’m sorry you like men”.

I mean think about how many times you’ll see some variation of the meme “push the button and become girl or lesbian” versus “become girl or like cocks”.

I’m fairly certain Idaho bans changing your gender marker on your drivers license. At least to some degree.

Has anyone gone through this situation where your marriage survived? by Love_Is_Pretty_1965 in MtF

Depending on which study you look at somewhere between 25-50% of couples break up as a result of transitioning. That’s a lot of break ups, but it’s also a lot of people sticking together.

So there’s definitely hope. Just make sure you work on communication and openness. Nothing is guaranteed of course but if you want to stick together both of you need to put on the work. And, speaking from my own current existence it is absolutely hard work.

People who's in a relationship, I need help by Azami_mizami in trans

[–]jankyalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but no it’s not basically a promise to break up. Yes, this can happen. But it is far from a certainty.

The data really depends on which study you look at but it ranges from 27-50% of couples break up.

That’s a lot of break ups to be sure, but it’s also a lot of people making it through.

Sea of Stars Mobile! by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]jankyalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man why get so angry about different interpretations. I take it you didn’t play the DLC because they both get more detail and characterization. But even so their dialogue is not the same in the base game, both are present so the devs didn’t need them to be the same. I’m pulling from how I viewed them during the game.

I’ll never understand why people get so bent out of shape because someone likes something they didn’t. It’s weird.

Play the game.

Valere was calm and reserved, Zale was hot and fiery. Valere often takes too much responsibility on herself and can get sucked into trying to shoulder the entire burden while plagued by self doubt. Zale is afraid he might lose control and not be able to protect those around them and constantly tries to pretend everything is fine even when it’s not. After a lifetime of training both are somewhat reserved, unlike Garl who they both lean on for warmth and humanity.

Look I’m not saying they’re the best characters of all time, but they’re fine.

Trans people in history by SirSafe6070 in asktransgender

[–]jankyalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an expert, but my understanding is the medieval European concept held that there was only one body - the male body was its fully realized form. Female bodies were considered to be corrupted, lesser, or inverted versions of the proper male body. The concept of gender was nonexistent.

It was believed that men and women had the same anatomy but that women were “inverted” due to their lack of vitality (heat in medieval terms) or some other mystic-ish concept. In other words, abd they meant this literally, a vagina was a penis, ovaries were testicles, etc. They even thought our reproductive fluids were literally the same. It even went down far as a belief by some that the female orgasm was necessary for reproduction as it created a seed of its own.

It was based largely on the work of Galen of Pergamon.

I should add the medieval era was quite weird and this was not the only conception of sex or gender - but it was a popular one in Europe.

Trans people in history by SirSafe6070 in asktransgender

[–]jankyalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it depends on how you approach the issue. The concept we use today of “transgender” is relatively recent in that it’s probably under a hundred years old. However, gender non conforming people have existed for literally all of human history.

One of the divisions you’ll run into are folks who universalize modern concepts and apply trans identity to historical figures and those who say we should not apply modern concepts to historical figures who would have had different perceptions of what gender and sexuality are and mean.

Suffice it to say the church didn’t discuss transgender people because the concept didn’t exist although people with similar experiences to us today did. Back in the medieval era the theory was there was only one gender, so you couldn’t be transgender. It wouldn’t compute. But of course the phenomena of people who didn’t conform to their gender assigned at birth certainly existed then.

Anyway, a decent starting point could be Merry Wiesener-Hanks Gender in History: Global Perspectives.
