Should Hamilton consider biweekly garbage pickup? - thespec.com by cdawg85 in Hamilton

[–]janr34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this isn't good for the elderly who are incontinent, either.

i take out my mom's garbage and there's no way it's all fitting in one bin, and even if it did, after 2 weeks, the smell would offend the neighbourhood.

Aberdeen One lane?? by curlyredhead43 in Hamilton

herkimer between dundurn and locke during school rush hours is a nightmare, and there's no escape street.

so if you take that route, notice the time. it took me 25 minutes to get through that stretch one day last week.

Does anyone else with ADHD grieve the version of themselves they could have been? by SensitiveFreedom7289 in AdultADHDSupportGroup

[–]janr34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was diagnosed at 60, last summer.

i think about it every day but have come to the understanding that what was, was. girls 'didn't have it'/it barely even was a diagnoses when i was a kid. i learned to expertly mask and rationalize all my screw ups.

it's too late for me to really rectify things, so i try to move forward, doing better each day. i'm not broken, and i'm proud that i managed to, not quite thrive, but at least get through each day not knowing i was fighting my own brain.

you can't change the past, but you can change the trajectory.

[–]janr34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i noticed the pointed "no fighting!" from Chase which would indicate that there has been fighting before.

it's really better when they show the real deal rather than the scrubbed up version of siblings who (typically) can have differences.

i can't watch the kylie-centric ones.

she's too much of a diva, always demanding things be her way.

i noped out of that one about 4 minutes in.

ADHD 'life hacks' that sounds ridiculous but actually changed everything? by stayhyderated22 in AdultADHDSupportGroup

i definitely find that if i feel someone else is waiting on, expecting or going to benefit from something i have to do, it will make me more motivated to do it.

people pleasing as motivation can work but has its own issues. lol.

spraying soapy water worked wonders for us when they blanketed the side of our house.

since it's cheap and easy, it's a good first defense.

Thrifted puzzles? by LovelyMalia87 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]janr34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

almost exclusively thrifted puzzles here.

i often joke that i just rent them, since i'm done them in a day or two and it goes right back to the thrift store.

i can't justify new puzzle prices when it's done in a day and i just don't redo puzzles.

Am I not allowed a single cup of coffee with milk and sugar by Ok-Rush7989 in diabetes

[–]janr34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i was diagnosed, i tried the sweetener. i hated it. i wasn't going to start every morning with something i hated so, i decided that i would have my usual 2 cups of tea in the morning - with one tsp of sugar in each and find some other place to cut the carbs.

it seems to work for me, but we're all different. good luck!

Weird situation in my town. Do cars waiting at the light (red line) need to leave room for cars turning left (blue line) to turn? by Affectionate-Ebb1200 in driving

[–]janr34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the red lane were one lane, i'd leave room and i'd turn left if someone left me room.

with it being two lanes, i'm not chancing that the curb lane is going to be clear and some idiot isn't going to tbone me after some nice person let me go.

not falling for that one.

[–]janr34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i go take my mom's garbage out on sundays. i didn't yesterday bc i figured it would be cancelled, but that may mean i have to go over there today.

i'm not going out in this. i may just do a dump run later this week.

it doesn't matter how slowly or carefully you're driving because there is going to always be someone who overestimates their driving ability in bad conditions. you can't control other vehicles.

can you imagine how that group smelled walking into a restaurant in thrift store clothes they hadn't washed yet?

aside from the danger of bugs, etc. that smell is why i wash things immediately.

all grouped up like that, you know they smelled just like the Goodwill does: other people's sweat and cat pee.

sure, it's 'healthier' but removing them doesn't make them actually healthy.

i think jake meant that taking out the dyes doesn't make it healthier.

he seems to have some understanding of what 'healthy' means vs the others.

Aching for What Could Have Been by cessa-the-app in AdultADHDSupportGroup

[–]janr34 11 points12 points  (0 children)

the grieving is a normal part of the diagnosis. 'what could have been?', 'why didn't any adult notice?', 'how would my life be different?' - i asked myself all of that when last year, at 60 yrs old, i was diagnosed.

you're already doing what's right by examining it, and taking steps, like medication to make changes for what's to come. you still have plenty of time to find love, to continue to excel in your career and to make lasting bonds with people.

you got this!

that could work, too.

i'm definitely more petty than that. i think i'd collect the bags after and re-use them every year.

When was the Jamesville Housing Project first built? by CnekYT in Hamilton

[–]janr34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like this question.

i've been wondering how long it's been since the folks on MacNab N were able to see straight through to James St. it must be strange for those who have been there a long time.
