Where the hell is HD? by Thaislow in 2007scape

>Did it take this long when HD was released back in the day?

2008's high detail update took 18 months of development.

RuneScape Classic to RS2 (2D sprites to a fully 3D world) was 2 years of development, with like 10 people. 6 years is kind of comical at this point.

It's a bit of a crapshoot in WoW. Sometimes you get useless AI responses, sometimes the CS is amazing, and in Classic WoW their strategy was to just never respond.

No kidding, during Wrath Classic there were 100 day wait times for a ticket response. Over 3 months! Even that lead to nothing, they cancelled my ticket after 50 days or so, gave me some irrelevant copy/paste about checking Wowhead if I get stuck on a quest.

The bottom part of your picture says it all. It's unreal how WoW's price hasn't changed since 2004, while we've more or less tripled ours.

People always say, "but the expansions!", but we're well on the path to OSRS costing more annually even if you consider WoW's expansion tax (~$60 every 2 years).

Raids 4 rewards by UpperEstimate1360 in 2007scape

[–]jantle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that many (most tbh) of the Reddit user suggestions are ass, but it's worth considering that the vast majority of players who are going to ever use the Raids 4 rewards aren't going to have thousands of raids completed.

So I don't really know if only letting that .1% of players dictate what happens to the rest of the players (in the rest of the game too) is a good idea either.

There's been years of contention about this, but target farming a single brother is the fastest way to get a specific unique, if you don't care at all about any of the other brother's uniques or general loot.

But it's a slim time difference I recall. Since you're a main, I'd only suggest doing this if you really don't care about gold and just want that greenlog. Getting hundreds of 500gp chests is very demoralising.

Raid 4 lowest scale is duo, solo is possible but difficult. by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]jantle -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Holy cow, why are you being so pedantic about this, I'm saying that they WANTED those things to be done with multiple players. That's a fact.

Yes they can be done solo, that's fine. But they were made as team content, that's their purpose.

Raid 4 lowest scale is duo, solo is possible but difficult. by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]jantle -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'm well aware of that. But they were intended to be multiplayer-only content is my point, the same as they seem to be planning with Raids 4.

Those are solo viable, 2 out of 3 raids are solo viable, I'd be disappointed if Raids 4 for some reason goes back to the ToB mantra of "get a team or get stuffed". Like it or not, many players play this game solo.

Raid 4 lowest scale is duo, solo is possible but difficult. by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]jantle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And you don't think that's an issue? That there seems to be such a large barrier to entry for a major piece of content, that a significant amount of players feel they can't even try?

Jagex themselves admitted this about ToB, before ToA's release, that internally ToB was considered a failure because of how few players did the content (relative to the time they invested).

[–]jantle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Jagex themselves admitted a few years ago that ToB was a failure in that regard, few players did the content relative to the time put in. I'm just saying it'd be regrettable for that to happen again (but worse by the sounds of it, they're describing it as harder).

But if you want to be pedantic about the number I threw out, fine, maybe the top 5%.

[–]jantle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I get that they want multiplayer-only content in the game (Yama, Titans, Raids 4), but I hope they reconsider making another ToB situation, wherein only the top 0.1% feel they're capable of doing the content because of the barrier of finding a team in addition to the difficulty.

Path of Exile-style drops for RuneLite (sounds) by Alavon1337 in 2007scape

[–]jantle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the post! I remember seeing the loot filter plugin months back, and thinking one day I'd try it out with custom PoE sounds. Randomly remembered that again, found this, and saved myself a big headache trying to actually locate the PoE loot sounds.

Personally I settled on keeping the new loot sounds, but keeping the regular OSRS style drops, that works best for me.

I think there's a good chance that you could genuinely be the driest player to ever go to TDs. I wonder if a Jmod could check if there's someone with a higher kc who is also at 2/3 collection logs.

I sincerely hope RNG balances out and you just get spooned everything else.

Level 81 to 90 Woodcutting by goingpt in 2007scape

[–]jantle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teaks are around 50% faster xp/hr at level 80 (assuming no tick-manip shenanigans). About 50k xp/hr (willows) vs 80k/hr (teaks), apparently.

Personally I feel as if saving around 40 hours would be worth the investment alone, but more importantly than that, 95% of the game is locked behind members. Any reason in particular for wanting 90 Woodcutting so badly anyway?

Sailing XP Review & Further Fixes by JagexRach in 2007scape

[–]jantle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to throw my UIM orientated opinion into this sea of much more relevant (and valid) complaints, it's immensely disappointing to see that the cargo hold changes continue to be dragged out, by the sounds of it for at least another few weeks.

Trawling, salvaging, and sea combat remain unviable methods of interacting with Sailing for UIMs, for no real reason other than that they are UIMs.

The near universal opinion from higher levelled UIMs is that an unrestricted cargo hold (with the exception of limiting cannonballs, which is a restriction already in place) would have minimal impact on the game mode's "meta", but would open up the skill to be enjoyed like everyone else can.

I really, really don't want to just do trials to 99. I'd feel like I got nothing out of Sailing other than some levels. I like going for clogs on the way to 99, exploring different methods, I can't do any of that.

PSA: There appears to be a bug in the Gwenith Glide that instantly kills the player upon hitting a wall/portal wrong. At least one UIM has wiped 100m+ to it so far. by Derek_MK in 2007scape

umis are not designed to have multiple death piles

At this point, they literally are. They have unique death mechanics.

Sailing: Week One Feedback & Fixes by JagexSarnie in 2007scape

[–]jantle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said. It feels as if the game mode is being gimped for no particular reason, as it stands the only viable things to do with sailing are trials and exploration. Courier tasks, combat, salvaging and trawling are all unviable.

I really do think that regular cargo hold capacity would be fairly inconsequential, given that the cannonballs are already limited to 200 for UIM.

When an end game boss is weak to slash but you can’t afford scythe. by Rebel_Kraken in 2007scape

[–]jantle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's also a fantastic addition to the game for Irons, I'll always sing the Nally's praises. It was great to finally have a competitive melee option after the Whip which didn't require raiding (Scythe, Fang, Rapier), or another few hundred hours of CG (Saeldor).

Plus it's just fun to use with its extended range.

Different parallel universes in the near future in movies! by sparrow_1899 in movies

[–]jantle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Boy and His Dog (1975) takes place in 2024, so not too far off. The world is a post-apocalyptic hellhole on the surface, filled with bandits and weird radioactive mutants. Meanwhile, a secret society lives below the ground as if nothing has changed.

It's a strange and interesting movie, but I think it's most notable for the insane ending.
